Interaction of wild-type and naturally occurring deleted variants of hepatitis B virus core polypeptides leads to formation of mosaic particles

AbstractThe simultaneous presence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) genomes carrying wild-type (wt) and in-frame deleted variants of the HBV core gene has been identified as a typical feature of HBV-infected renal transplant patients with severe liver disease. To investigate possible interactions of wt and deleted core polypeptides a two-vector Escherichia coli expression system ensuring their concomitant synthesis has been developed. Co-expression of wt and a mutant core lacking 17 amino acid residues (77–93) within the immunodominant region led to the formation of mosaic particles, whereas the mutant alone was incapable of self-assembly.

Objectives Interferons are known to inhibit the replication of hepatitis B viruses (HBV) in several animal models in vitro and in vivo as well in humans. The STAT-1 protein plays a central role in the biological activity of both type I and type II interferons. The lack of functional STAT-1 renders cells and organisms susceptible to bacterial and viral infectious agents. However, measuring this developmental function of peer review is difficult as it requires fine-grained data on reports and journals without any optimal benchmark. The Finnish case is in many ways illustrative of the complexities of democratisation after World War I. Finland found itself at the nexus of a Swedish constitutional tradition, legalism and ideological controversies adopted from Imperial Germany, the radicalised Russian Revolution, and Western parliamentary democracy. After having been a model for reformers demanding women’s suffrage, for instance, the country found itself in autumn 1918 going in the opposite direction to almost all other European countries. Wound repair is a key event in the regeneration mechanisms of echinoderms. We studied, at the behavioural, cellular and molecular levels, the wound healing processes in Holothuria tubulosa after injuries to the body wall. The experiments were performed for periods of up to 72 h, and various coelomocyte counts, as well as the expression of heat shock proteins (HS27, HSP70 and HSP90), were recorded. Dermal wound healing was nearly complete within 72 h. In the early stages, we observed the injured animals twisting their bodies to keep their injuries on the surface of the water for the extrusion of the buccal pedicles.
