An Effective Satellite Remote Sensing Tool Combining Hardware and Software Solutions

In this paper we propose a new effective remote sensing tool combining hardware and software solutions as an extension of our previous work. In greater detail the tool consists of a low cost receiver subsystem for public weather satellites and a signal and image processing module for several tasks such as signal and image enhancement, image reconstruction and cloud detection. Space–bandwidth product of optical signals and systems

The space–bandwidth product (SW) is fundamental for judging the performance of an optical system. Often the SW of a system is defined only as a pure number that counts the degrees of freedom of the system. We claim that a quasi-geometrical representation of the SW in the Wigner domain is more useful. We also represent the input signal as a SW in the Wigner domain. For perfect signal processing it is necessary that the system SW fully embrace the signal SW.
Vibrational properties of the surface-nonbridging oxygen in silica nanoparticles

By studying the site-selective luminescence spectra of oxidized silica nanoparticles we identify the electronic and the vibrational lines associated with the surface nonbridging oxygen, $\ensuremath{\equiv}{\text{Si-O}}^{\ifmmode\bullet\else\textbullet\fi{}}$. This defect emits a zero-phonon line inhomogeneously distributed around 2.0 eV with full width at half maximum of 0.04 eV, weakly coupled with the local ${\text{Si-O}}^{\ifmmode\bullet\else\textbullet\fi{}}$ stretching mode whose frequency is measured to be $920\text{ }{\text{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$. Photoelectron lifetime determination of Ag(1 1 1) films at the Fermi surface

The electronic properties of 10 monolayers Ag(111) films deposited onto Si(111)-7 x 7 substrates at room temperature have been studied by scanning the photoelectron intensity at the Fermi level in different symmetry directions. The main features observed in these profiles correspond to Lorentzian-like peaks produced by the pass of the sp band through the Fermi level. A simple model has been developed, which connects the photoemission peak linewidth with the lifetime of photoelectrons excited from the Fermi level. Plasmonic Focusing Reduces Ensemble Linewidth of Silver-Coated Gold Nanorods

Silver coating gold nanorods reduces the ensemble plasmon line width by changing the relation connecting particle shape and plasmon resonance wavelength. This change, we term "plasmonic focusing", leads to less variation of resonance wavelengths for the same particle size distribution. We also find smaller single particle linewidth comparing resonances at the same wavelength but show that this does not contribute to the ensemble linewidth narrowing.
A PV plant simulator for testing MPPT techniques

This paper introduces a versatile and reliable photovoltaic systems simulator. It includes the main components of a photovoltaic plant: a PV string and a PWM controlled boost chooper. The key feature of this simulator is the ability to consider different and non-uniform irradiation and temperature conditions (partial shading and partial heating of the strings). All the different I-V and P-V or P-I characteristics can then be determined in such non-uniform irradiation and temperature conditions, with the aim to try different MPPT algorithms. The increasing popularity of optical communication has also brought a demand for a broader bandwidth. The trend, naturally, was to implement methods from traditional electronic communication. One of the most effective traditional methods is Code Division Multiple Access. In this research, we suggest the use of this approach for spatial coding applied to images. The approach is to multiplex several filters into one plane while keeping their mutual orthogonality. It is shown that if the filters are limited by their bandwidth, the output of all the filters can be sampled in the original image resolution and fully recovered through an all-optical setup. High-resolution spectroscopy of the ν3 band of WF6 and ReF6 in a supersonic jet

We have recorded the Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum of the ν3 fundamental band of WF6 in a continuous supersonic jet expansion with an instrumental bandwidth of 0.0024 cm−1 (FWHM, full width at half maximum, unapodized), using a Bomem DA.002 spectrometer. Some parts of this band have also been recorded with 0.0007 cm−1 bandwidth using a diode laser spectrometer combined with a pulsed slit jet expansion. A multiple-pass arrangement has been used for the slit jet to observe low-intensity lines. This paper addresses the problem of analyzing biological pattern recognition systems. As no complete analysis is possible due to limited observability, the theoretical part of the paper examines some principles of construction for recognition systems. The relations between measurable and characteristic variables of these systems are described. The results of the study are: 1. Saturated absorption spectroscopy: elimination of crossover resonances by use of a nanocell

It is demonstrated that velocity selective optical pumping/saturation resonances of reduced absorption in a Rb vapor nanocell with thickness \textit{L=} $\lambda $, 2$\lambda $, and 3$\lambda $ (resonant wavelength $\lambda $ = 780 nm) allow the complete elimination of crossover (CO) resonances. We observe well pronounced resonances corresponding to the F$_{g}=3$ $\to $ F$_{e}=2,3,4$ hyperfine transitions of the $^{85}$Rb D$_{2}$ line with linewidths close to the natural width. A small CO resonance located midway between F$_{g}=3$ $\to $ F$_{e}=3$ and F$_{g}=3$ $\to$ F$_{e}=4$ transitions appears only for \textit{L} = 4$\lambda $.
