Christoph Martin Wieland e il cristianesimo
2016
The religious debate is vivid and constant during the eighteenth century, different positions coexist and culminate in Deism and Hermeticism but also in Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry. Christoph Martin Wieland is one example of the many authors who reflect on the religious question in this climate of continuous alternation of opinions. This work focuses on two novels by Christoph Martin Wieland Peregrinus Proteus (1791) and Agathodämon (1799). In these texts, which are rarely studied and closely related, the reflection on Christianity is characterized by various angles of view. This paper intends to demonstrate how the Peregrinus Proteus also criticizes early Christianity and how the Agatho…
Christoph Martin Wielands Vermittlungsrolle zwischen Kulturen, Autoren, Menschen
2022
This article deals with Wieland’s work as editor of Der Teutsche Merkur, the first successful German journal he had founded, as a famous writer and tireless translator. The focus of the article is on Wieland’s need for confrontation and an exchange of opinions, his concept of cosmopolitanism, his conception of Europe and the Mediterranean, his rejection of any claim to the inviolability of one’s own convictions which were to be defended at all costs and against everyone and everything.

The article analyzes the two later works of Christoph Marin Wieland, Menander and Glycerion, 1803, and Krates and Hipparchia, 1804. The actions of the short epistolary novels take place in ancient Greece. In this article are analyzed the formal, thematic and local similarities. In this article I would like to focus on the reason why shortly after the publication of the long letter novel Aristipp, 1801, Christoph Martin Wieland changes his concept of text types.
Erkenntnistreben und Humanität. Zu Wielands Versuch einer Zusammenlegung verschiedener Begriffe der Religion im Agathodämon
2010
Around 1800, in Europe, and especially in German speaking countries, there was much intense rethinking of the past in which traditional elements were represented in radically new forms. In one of his last novels, Ch. Martin Wieland deals with a number of questions deriving from the crisis of the certainties of the age of enlightenment and the appearance of the first ideas of romanticism, in particular questions regarding religion. This paper investigates how Wieland examines every set of ideas or beliefs (from traditional orthodoxy to the spiritual end esoteric practices typical of the 18th century) from a strongly critical point of view. In each one he identifies two parallel approaches to…
