2011

Objective: To determine the distribution of oro-mucosal lesions in patients of Maharishi Markendeshwer College of Dental Sciences and Research, (MMCDSR), Mullana. Further to identify sex predilection and different sites which are more susceptible to different oro-mucosal lesions. Materials and methods: A hospital based retrospective study was carried out from 1st January 2007 till 31st December 2009 at (MMCDSR), Mullana. A total of 451 biopsy reports were studied. Distribution and prevalence of oro-mucosal lesions among the data were analyzed using SPSS software package version 13. Results: There was no mention of habits in the biopsy reports of 85.4 % (385 patients) of the subjects. Out of…

Limberg fasciocutaneous transposition flap for the coverage of an exposed hip implant in a patient affected by ewing sarcoma

2017

Highlights • Hemipelvectomy with immediate reconstruction with prosthetic devices for the surgical treatment of malignant tumors is an invasive procedure. • The treatment of an exposed hip implant in these cluster of patient is extremely challenging and the literature shows how negative pressure wound therapy and myocutaneous, both pedicled and free, flaps are workhorses in these situations. • The literature shows that the gold standard in the coverage of exposed prosthetic devices and in the treatment of infected non healing wounds is represented by muscular or myocutaneous flap. • In this paper we report a successful coverage of exposed prosthetic hip implant with a local fasciocutaneous …

“Throwing into the Whirlwind Vortex”: Unaccounted Memoirs about Blok by S. Korenev

2021

The article examines certain plots of the “Blok theme” in the 1920s Riga periodicals, which had not previously attracted the attention of researchers. The Russian press of independent Latvia (1919 –1940) has preserved many tens, if not hundreds, of articles, correspondences, documents, poetic texts dedicated to A.A. Blok’s personality and works. Among them are memoirs of people who were familiar with the poet, met with him, listened to his speeches. However, most of these scattered memoirs remain forgotten and are not taken into account in the Blok studies. The author recalls the texts of V.V. Tretyakov, A.M. Perfiliev and republishes from the Riga newspaper “Slovo” a memorial article about…

THE ROLE OF SEMANTIC BORROWING IN THE FORMATION OF ECONOMIC TERMS

2014

Specialized terms can result from a number of semantic processes (e.g. meaning extension, meaning narrowing, meaning transfer), which affect words from the general vocabulary. In their turn, these processes can be language internal and take place in the absence of any influence from the outside, or can be triggered by the importation of new things, ideas, etc from another culture and the contact with the language of this culture. The present paper analyses the way in which the worldwide influence English is exerting today has led to the creation of new words in the Romanian vocabulary of business and economics. Our sole focus of attention is constituted by semantic borrowing, or the importa…

Whistleblowing in the Context of Zimbabwe’s Economic Crisis

2007

Whistle blowing is a topic that has taken center stage in philosophical discussions on business ethics in recent years. It continues to provoke debate among academics because of its continued relevance to the present prevailing situations the world over. The recent upsurge in cases of corporate wrongdoings in Zimbabwe has seriously reactivated a concerted debate on the moral justification of whistle blowing. The whistle blower is, however, faced with competing and conflicting moral values and imperatives that make his decision to blow the whistle a morally excruciating endeavour. It is the contention of this article that, despite employees’ obligations of loyalty and obedience to their empl…

The utility of SATB2 immunohistochemical expression in distinguishing between osteosarcomas and their malignant bone tumor mimickers, such as Ewing s…

2016

SATB2 is commonly expressed in osteosarcomas. Although apparently being a valuable diagnostic marker for differentiating between small cell osteosarcoma (SCO) and other small round cell tumors of bone, for instance Ewing sarcoma family of tumors (ESFT), it has not been tested in a large series of ESFT and chondrosarcomas so far. We studied the immunohistochemical expression of SATB2 in 42 osteosarcomas, 31 chondrosarcomas, and 371 genetically confirmed ESFT. SATB2 positivity was detected in 90.4% of osteosarcomas, 87.5% of SCO, 91.3% of osteoblastic osteosarcomas, and in all chondroblastic and parosteal osteosarcomas. The osteoblastic and SCO subtypes expressed SATB2 more intensely than oth…

The Tongue, Mandible, Hyoid System.

2017

The craniocervical-mandibular system works in harmony and allows different functional tasks as the postural control of the cervical region. This system is formed by the temporomandibular joint, the masticatory muscles and ligaments connecting the temporomandibular joint and the cervical region. It has been seen to affect human posture, and many disorders of the temporomandibular joints may affect this functional arrangement. Notwithstanding this system considered as a functional arrangement, may offer various clinical explanations, it does not hold anatomical connections with the posterior region of the cranium, thus it should not be refered to as a craniocervical arrangement. For this reas…

Kinematics of Cervical Spine during Rowing Ergometer at Different Stroke Rates in Young Rowers: A Pilot Study

2022

Background: Research on biomechanics in rowing has mostly focused on the lumbar spine. However, injuries can also affect other body segments. Thus, the aim of this pilot study was to explore any potential variations in the kinematics of the cervical spine during two different stroke rates on the rowing ergometer in young rowers. Methods: Twelve young rowers of regional or national level were recruited for the study. The experimental protocol consisted of two separate test sessions (i.e., a sequence of 10 consecutive strokes for each test session) at different stroke rates (i.e., 20 and 30 strokes/min) on an indoor rowing ergometer. Kinematics of the cervical spine was assessed using an iner…

2020

The occupation of dental assistants (DAs) involves many health risks of the musculoskeletal system due to static and prolonged work, which can lead to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). The aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence of MSDs in DAs in Germany. Methods: For this purpose, an online questionnaire analyzed 406 (401 female participants and 5 male participants, 401w/5m) DAs. It was based on the Nordic Questionnaire (lifetime, 12-month, and seven-day MSDs’ prevalence separated into neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, upper back, lower back, hip, knee, and ankle), and occupational and sociodemographic questions as well as questions about specific medical conditions. Results: 98.5% …
