Recent advances in nanostructures and nanocrystals as signal-amplification elements in electrochemical cytosensing

Abstract Considering the vital role of cells in life science and human health, cytosensors have become a hot research topic. Electrochemical cytosensors attract much attention. In this review, we discuss some recent efforts to construct novel and improved electrochemical cytosensors based on graphene, carbon nanotubes, some metal-nanoparticle composites, quantum dots, nanofibers and nanowires. In addition, we summarize examples of nanostructure applications in electrochemical cytosensing reported in the literature from 2009 to date, with their advantages and limitations, and stress their potential for future development. 3D superconducting hollow nanowires with tailored diameters grown by focused He+ beam direct writing

Currently, the patterning of innovative three-dimensional (3D) nano-objects is required for the development of future advanced electronic components. Helium ion microscopy in combination with a precursor gas can be used for direct writing of three-dimensional nanostructures with a precise control of their geometry, and a significantly higher aspect ratio than other additive manufacturing technologies. We report here on the deposition of 3D hollow tungsten carbide nanowires with tailored diameters by tuning two key growth parameters, namely current and dose of the ion beam. Electrochemical deposition of Ag2Se nanostructures

Abstract AgSe based nanostructures (nanowires or nanotubes) were obtained by electrodeposition. A systematic investigation was carried out, varying concentration of the precursors, pH of the electrolytic solution, ligands, and deposition mode, to study the effect of all these parameters on the growth of nanostructures. Nanostructure morphology depends also on the type of metal that was used as support, due to the secondary reaction of hydrogen evolution. CuZnSnSe NANOTUBES AND NANOWIRES BY TEMPLATE ELECTROSYNTHESIS

In this work we present some results of an extensive investigation aimed to find suitable conditions to grow CuZnSnSe (CZTSe) nanostructures through single-step electrodeposition into the channels of polycarbonate membranes. After the optimization of several electrodeposition parameters, we have found that pulsed current deposition, between 0 and -1 mA cm-2, is the best way to obtain CZTSe nanostructures mechanically attached to the support. An interesting result concerns the effect of supporting electrolyte in the deposition bath. Structural characterization of one-dimensional ZnO-based nanostructures grown by MOCVD

Various one-dimensional (1D) ZnO-based nanostructures, including ZnO nano-wires (NWs) grown using vapour-liquid-solid (VLS) process, ZnO/ZnSe core/shell, nitrogen-doped ZnO and ZnMgO NWs were grown by metalorganic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis is presented. For all the samples, a high crystalline quality is observed. Some features are emphasized such as the gold contamination of ZnO wires grown under the metal droplets in the VLS process. It is concluded that MOCVD is a suitable technique for the realization of original ZnO nanodevices.

Combustion Formation of Novel Nanomaterials: Synthesis and Cathodoluminescence of Silicon Carbide Nanowires

This paper presents the combustion synthesis and characterization of one-dimensional silicon carbide nanostructures (nanowires of 3C-SiC polytype with zincblend structure) by means of cathodoluminescence technique. Cathodoluminescence spectra of nano-SiC samples and, as a reference, of a commercially available SiC micropowder are compared. It is shown that the emission band at 1.97 eV which is slightly evidenced in the spectrum of the commercial SiC under 10 keV electron beam irradiation becomes the prevailing band in CL of the purified silicon carbide nanowires.
