CHALLENGES TO MADE VALUES-BASED COMPETENCE MODEL FOR AMBULANCE PERSONNEL

2019

The purpose of this paper is to clarify and analyse the understanding of the values for Ambulance personnel, to compare and integrate it with the system of competencies used in the performance assessment and evaluation of professional competence. The results of State Emergency Medical Service ambulance personnel’s survey in the 2018 are analysed in the research. The results obtained Ambulance personnel’s different understanding of the importance of organization's values and its impact in management, staff attitude and work performance. The results of the survey have showed that Ambulance personnel has contradictive understanding of system of values. Their personal values are respect, compas…

Channel Occupancy-Based Dynamic Spectrum Leasing in Multichannel CRNs: Strategies and Performance Evaluation

2016

Spectrum leasing has been proposed as an effective approach for enabling more flexible spectrum utilization in CRNs. In CRNs, a primary network (PN) which consists of multiple primary users (PUs) can lease part of the licensed spectrum to secondary users (SUs) in exchange for operational benefits. The focus of this study is to investigate how and to what extent the PN allows spectrum leasing in CRNs, considering the QoS requirements of the PN and the secondary network (SN). Correspondingly, we propose two dynamic spectrum leasing strategies, which can improve the QoS performance of SUs while ensuring sufficient remuneration for PUs. In order to dynamically adjust the portion of leased bandw…

Cooperative Medium Access Control in Wireless Networks: The Two-Hop Case

2009

Cooperative communication has been recently proposed as a powerful means to improve network performance in wireless networks. However, most existing work focuses solely on one-hop source-destination cooperation. In this paper, we propose a novel cooperative MAC mechanism that is specially designed for two-hop cooperation communications where the source node and the destination node cannot hear each other directly. In this case, cooperative communication is operated in a two-hop manner and transmit-diversity is achieved by the reception of the same data packet forwarded through multiple relays towards a single destination. The proposed scheme employs an efficient relay selection algorithm to…

Adaptation of a German Multidimensional Networking Scale into English

2011

Networking refers to building and maintaining personal contacts in order to obtain resources that, in turn, enhance one’s career success and work performance. This study reports the translation and adaptation of a multifaceted German networking scale ( Wolff & Moser, 2006 ) into English and focuses on the equivalence of the two language versions. Going beyond the often used translation-backtranslation method, we used a parallel translation-backtranslation method in combination with two expert committees to arrive at the English scale version, aiming to obtain at least structural equivalence. We utilize a bilingual sample (N = 76) as well as monolingual samples from the US (N = 174) and…

A novel traffic splitting policy for performance improvement in wireless mesh networks

2009

Wireless mesh networks are expected to play an important role in the next-generation wireless communication systems as it can provide wide coverage and scalable broadband Internet access services. However, as more traffic is injected into the network it may lead to throughput degradation, packet loss and longer transmission delay. In this paper, we argue that network performance can be improved by cross-layer design over multiple layers and load balancing based on service types. Correspondingly, a novel traffic splitting policy which can potentially utilize diverse paths for transmitting traffic flows of different service types from the same router has been proposed and investigated. Such a…

Why Real Leisure Really Matters: Incentive Effects on Real Effort in the Laboratory

2013

On-the-job leisure is a pervasive feature of the modern workplace. We studied its impact on work performance in a laboratory experiment by either allowing or restricting Internet access. We used a 2×2 experimental design in which subjects completing real-effort work tasks could earn cash according to either individual- or team-production incentive schemes. Under team pay, production levels were significantly lower when Internet browsing was available than when it was not. Under individual pay, however, no differences in production levels were observed between the treatment in which Internet was available and the treatment in which it was not. In line with standard incentive theory, individu…

Of Friends and Foes in Organizations: A Theoretical Perspective Upon Performance at Work

2014

Abstract The present paper highlights, from a theoretical perspective, the main challenges which aim work performance, inside meta- analytical research studies in organizations, focusing, especially, on factors and organizational concepts, directly related to performance and their relations within. Results show that, in most cases, human resources oriented management resides in an increase of performance at work. In this manner, team effectiveness, group size and proactive behavior determine and influence the levels of work performance, from a positive perspective, whilst turnover is widely associated with a negative view.

Redesign enterprise network by local Internet breakout : case study

2015

Nowadays, the popularity of cloud-based services around the web and SaaS applications are empowering customers to improve their business processes and increase user productivity while reducing the company’s IT operation costs. The local Internet breakout solution provides improved performance when accessing cloud-based applications along with a greater user experience. The reason behind this is not having data travel through the corporate WAN to access the Internet at a single point. This new network design solution not only improves user experience by lower latency when accessing the Internet, but also offloading the applications traffic from corporate WAN connections. The main theme of th…

Introduction of Multiflow for HSDPA

2012

This paper introduces a multi-cell transmission scheme for High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) networks, called Multiflow. In this concept, downlink data is transmitted to a user terminal at the border of two cells from one or both of the cells. The cells may belong to same NodeB or to two different NodeBs. The data flows are separated by different scrambling codes used by each associated cell, thus the flows can be treated independently. This provides increased multi-user diversity by means of flexibility in downlink resource management, in addition to the spatial diversity of multiple transmission locations. Another important gain mechanism for this scheme is realized by short-term …

Labor market performance of dropouts: the role of personality

2014

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide evidence on labor market careers of dropouts with various levels of education. Design/methodology/approach – The paper compares the labor market careers of dropouts and non-dropouts between ages 15 and 50 by using longitudinal data. The paper analyses how the results change when the authors control for differences in personality characteristics. Findings – The paper finds that dropping out diminishes one's success in the labor market but this connection is reduced when the model is augmented with personality. Dropouts seem to have or lack certain personality characteristics that are associated with labor market success. These findings sugge…
