The Many Faces of Interactivity in Convergent Media Environments. Assessing Uses and Effects of Interactivity from a User and Management Perspective

2013

Digitization has blurred the distinctions between producers and audiences. Thus, research on interactivity as a key element of convergent media environments has grown dramatically over the past three decades. However, despite this strong research interest there is currently no consensus about the multi-faced and hard-to-grasp concept. Obviously, interactivity is used to describe numerous processes in convergent media environments that are related to communication in general, and online communication and practices like online journalism in particular. This article highlights the main strands in the conceptual development of interactivity and explores some of the effects of interactivity by s…

Datasharing: guía práctica para compartir datos de investigación

2013

To associate research data to the published results favors their reuse by the scientific community, but this does not afford sufficient guarantees of preservation. To store them in databases solves this contingency and provides visibility, but in Spain there are not many services of this kind. For this reason, we describe, evaluate and discuss the pros and cons of foreign multidisciplinary data repositories that can be useful for researchers and information managers: Dryad, Figshare, Zenodo and Dataverse. It is still early to choose optimally and definitively one or the other application, so we conclude with recommendations to guide the user community and intermediaries.

Multilingual information delivery based on a domain ontology

2014

As internationalisation becomes more and more intensive, organizations need to work with information in different languages in their work. Interlingua content delivery in e-learning courses could be effective learning content adaption method for delivering information for much wider audience. This paper suggests high-level framework for multilingual learning content delivery. This approach is based on a domain ontology, which allows to annotate and retrieve learning resources in a language independent way. Such method can improve accessibility, sharing and reuse of multilingual learning content.

Web 2.0 Goes Mobile: Motivations and Barriers of Mobile Social Networks Use in Spain

2012

Mobile social networking sites have become one of the fastest growing Web 2.0 services worldwide both in developing and developed countries and have a major interest for the information systems research community. This chapter aims to give managers and students insight into the mobile social networking industry and the different drivers and barriers to mobile social networking sites adoption. The chapter’s specific goals are to: (i) Identify consumer segments more likely to adopt mobile social networking services; (ii) Analyze the perceived benefits and barriers that encourage/discourage the adoption of mobile social networking services; (iii) Provide empirical research on the Spanish marke…

Interoperability between Distributed Systems and Web-Services Composition

2009

An information system is a multi-axis system characterized by a “data” axis, a “behavioral” axis, and a “communication” axis. The data axis corresponds to the structural and schematic technologies used to store data into the system. The behavioral axis represents management and production processes carried out by the system and corresponding technologies. The processes can interact with the data to extract, generate, and store data. The communication axis relates to the network used to exchange data and activate processes between geographically distant users or machines. Nowadays, technologies required for interoperability are extended to deal with the semantic aspect of the information sys…

A Semantic Publish/Subscribe Approach for U-VR Systems Interoperation

2008

As ubiquitous virtual reality (U-VR) systems become more and more popular and several systems coexist all together, sharing events between them in order to improve the user experience and increase their scope and functionality will be mandatory. Since U-VR systems have a dynamic and decoupled nature, and they have their own event model, we propose in this paper a semantic publish/subscribe infrastructure that lies on a description logics reasoner and OWL ontologies for managing heterogeneous event models and performing the matching of events and subscriptions in such U-VR systems.

A Social-Empowered Platform for Gathering Semantic Information

2013

Social Networks constitute the key ingredient for the huge success of the so called Social Web or Web 2.0. In social networks, a user has the possibility to interact with other users without the need of meeting them. The value of social applications benefit from the network effect, which states that the value of a service to a user arises from the number of people using the service. However, the associated semantics for this kind of applications, delivered through tagging, is generally scarce, thus narrowing the range of permissible operations for exploiting these data. In this paper, we present a semantic-based social platform that incorporates the benefits of semantic Web technologies int…

XBRL

2007

This paper describes the main contributions in relation with the develop of an XBRL (Extensible Business Reporting Language) taxonomy proposed by the PRISMA research group at University UNAB. This taxonomy has been developed for public institutions in Colombia. This taxonomy is based on the information exchange of financial information. It is also described the creation of a wiki system which includes real information of existing XBRL projects in the world and the creation of a demostration center of XBR reports.
