Healing of intrabony defects following treatment with a bovine-derived xenograft and collagen membrane

2003

Use of platelet concentrate gel in second-intention wound healing: a case report.

2021

Abstract Background Wound healing is a complex and dynamic process. Healing of acute and chronic wounds can be impaired by patient factors (that is, comorbidities) and/or wound factors (that is, infection). Regenerative medicine products, such as autologous/homologous platelet-rich plasma gel, may speed up the healing process. Autologous/homologous platelet-rich plasma is an advanced wound therapy used for hard-to-heal acute and chronic wounds. The cytokines and growth factors contained in platelet-rich plasma play a crucial role in the healing process. Case presentation A 61-year-old Caucasian male patient, suffering from mental retardation following meningitis, with a transplanted kidney …

Laser welded vascular anastomosis

1988

A comparative study was undertaken to investigate the application of a specially adapted microsurgical Neodymium Yag Laser system with a wavelength of 1,319 microns and a CO2 laser system for laser assisted microvascular end-to-end anastomosis (LAMA) of the rat femoral artery. Conventionally sutured anastomoses served as controls. Postoperative investigations included patency tests, light microscopy and tensile strength measurements. Both laser systems seem to be equally suitable for LAMA: The patency rates do not differ from those of sutured anastomoses and formation of microscopically small aneurysms occurred predominantly in control animals and only once in laser groups. The clamp time n…

Extraction socket healing in rats treated with bisphosphonate: Animal model for bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis of jaws in multiple myeloma pati…

2010

Aim: The aim of this study is to replicate both clinical and histological presentation of bisphosphonate induced osteonecrosis of the jaws (BONJ) in an animal model of the disease state. Successful recapitulation of a BONJlike indication in an animal model will be useful for studying pathogenesis, as well as prevention and treatment strategies for BONJ. Materials and Methods: Eighty (80) rats were prospectively and randomly divided into two groups; control group(40) and study group(40). All animals in study group, injected with a dose of 1 mg/kg dexamethasone (DX) subcutaneously on day 7, 14, or 21; and 1, 2, or 3 doses of 7.5 ?g/kg zoledronic acid (ZA) subcutaneously administered to coinci…

Effects Of COOH-terminal tripeptide alpha-MSH (11-13) on corneal epithelial wound healing:role of nitric oxide

2006

It is known that alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) may exert anti-inflammatory effects and facilitate reparative processes in different tissues. The effective message sequence of alpha-MSH resides in the COOH-terminal tripeptide alpha-MSH(11-13). This study was undertaken to investigate the effects of topical administration of the COOH-terminal tripeptide sequence of alpha-MSH (alpha-MSH(11-13), KPV) on corneal epithelial wound healing in rabbits and the possible role of nitric oxide (NO) in these effects. The whole corneal epithelium was denuded in both eyes by mechanical abrasion. The area of the corneal epithelial defect was stained with fluorescein, photographed, and then…

The effect of biological sealants and adhesive treatments on matrix metalloproteinase expression during renal injury healing

2017

Background Renal injuries are relatively common in cases of abdominal trauma. Adhesives and sealants can be used to repair and preserve damaged organs. Using a rat model, this study explores the activity of different matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) during the healing of renal injuries treated by two biological adhesives (TachoSil and GelitaSpon) and a new synthetic elastic cyanoacrylate (Adhflex). Methods Renal traumatic injuries were experimentally induced in 90 male Wistar rats by a Stiefel Biopsy Punch in the anterior aspect of the left kidney. Animals were divided into five groups: 1, sham non-injured (n = 3); 2, non-treated standard punch injury (n = 6); 3, punch injury treated with Ta…

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Stimulates Angiogenesis and Collagen Production in Facial Soft Tissue.

2019

Abstract Background This study investigated the efficacy of extracorporeal shock wave (ESW) application in stimulating dermal thickness, vascularity, and collagen synthesis of facial skin in a large animal model. Materials and methods The facial skin of the maxillary and mandibular areas of goats (n = 6 per group) was treated with ESWs of different intensities (0.15 and 0.45 mJ/mm2; 1000 pulses). After 4 d, histology and immunohistochemistry were used to evaluate the following: dermal thickness, total number and abundance of microvessels, amount of type 1 collagen, and α-smooth muscle actin expression. Results Dermal thickness, number and abundance of microvessels, and collagen synthesis in…

Periodontal impact of surgically induced dental lesions in mandibular osteodistraction: An animal study.

2009

SUMMARY. Aim: The objective of the study was to evaluatethe impact of dental lesions on the periodontium, in a canine model of mandibular osteodistraction. Material and methods: In six adult male Beagle dogs, an osteotomy was made between the right second lateral incisor and canine, and a distraction device placed. The roots adjacent to the osteotomy were deliberately damaged by the reciprocating saw and chisel, with preservation of the attached gingiva. The osteodistraction protocol used was: latency of 7 days, rate of distraction 1 mm per day, and rhythm once a day for 5 days. Vital staining was carried out with tetracycline, Xylenol Orange and Calcein Green. The dogs were sacrificed afte…
