X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy of thermochromic phase transition in CuMoO4
2018
Thermochromic phase transition was studied in CuMoO4 using the Cu and Mo K-edge x-ray absorption spec-troscopy in the temperature range of 10-300 K. The hysteretic behavior has been evidenced from the tempera-ture dependence of the pre-edge shoulder intensity at the Mo K-edge, indicating that the transition from brown-ish-red γ-CuMoO4 to green α-CuMoO4 occurs in the temperature range of 230-280 K upon heating, whereas the α-to-γ transition occurs between 200 and 120 K upon cooling. Such behavior of the pre-edge shoulder at the Mo K-edge correlates with the change of molybdenum coordination between distorted tetrahedral in α-CuMoO4 and distorted octahedral in γ-CuMoO4. This result has been s…
In situ XAFS study of phase transitions and hydrogen intercalation in WO3-MoO3 system
1995
Abstract The WO 3 -MoO 3 system has several reconstructive and displacive phase transitions which can be induced by temperature and/or by change of stoichiometry or valence state of metal ions under hydrogen intercalation. We have studied in situ the local electronic and structural changes arising in WO 3 -MoO 3 system with hydrogen intercalation and temperature. In situ XAFS measurements at the Mo K and W L 3 edges in H y Mo x W 1− x O 3 compounds, performed at different hydrogen intercalation level and temperatures (from RT to 500°C), allowed us to determine the rearrangement in the first and second coordination shells of Mo and W cations during phase transitions. It was found that hydrog…

Observing heme doming in myoglobin with femtosecond X-ray absorption spectroscopy.
2015
International audience; We report time-resolved X-ray absorption measurements after photolysis of carbonmonoxy myoglobin performed at the LCLS X-ray free electron laser with nearly 100 fs (FWHM) time resolution. Data at the Fe K-edge reveal that the photoinduced structural changes at the heme occur in two steps, with a faster (∼70 fs) relaxation preceding a slower (∼400 fs) one. We tentatively attribute the first relaxation to a structural rearrangement induced by photolysis involving essentially only the heme chromophore and the second relaxation to a residual Fe motion out of the heme plane that is coupled to the displacement of myoglobin F-helix
The evolution of the fraction of Er ions sensitized by Si nanostructures in silicon-rich silicon oxide thin films
2009
Photoluminescence (PL) and time-resolved PL experiments as a function of the elaboration process are performed on Er-doped silicon-rich silicon oxide (SRO:Er) thin films grown under NH(3) atmosphere. These PL measurements of the Er(3+) emission at 1.54 microm under non-resonant pumping with the Er f-f transitions are obtained for different Er(3+) concentrations, ranging from 0.05 to 1.4 at.%, and various post-growth annealing temperatures of the layers. High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and energy-filtered TEM (EFTEM) analysis show a high density of Si nanostructures composed of amorphous and crystalline nanoclusters varying from 2.7 x 10(18) to 10(18) cm(-3) as a fun…
Growth and optical characterization of indirect-gap AlxGa1−xAs alloys
1999
Nonintentionally doped AlxGa1−xAs layers with 0.38 x 0.84 were grown on (100) GaAs substrates by liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) under near-equilibrium conditions. The crystalline quality of the samples was studied by photoluminescence at 2 K and room temperature Raman spectroscopy. The peculiar behavior in the photoluminescence intensities of the indirect bound exciton line and the donor–acceptor pair transition is explained from the evolution of the silicon donor binding energy according to the aluminum composition. It was also possible to observe the excitonic transition corresponding to the AlxGa1−xAs/GaAs interface, despite the disorder and other factors which are normally involved when gro…
Palladium local structure of La1-xSrxCo1-yFey-0.03Pd0.03O3-δperovskites synthesized using a one pot citrate method
2014
Nanostructured La1-xSrxCo1-yFey-0.03Pd0.03O3-δ(LSCF-Pd) perovskites with fixed La-Sr composition (x = 0.4) and two different Fe contents (y = 0.2 and 0.8) were successfully synthesized using a one pot citrate method starting from nitrates of the metal cations. Pd-free La1-xSrxCo1-yFeyO3-δ(LSCF) systems were prepared for comparison. LSCF powders were calcined at 1300 °C and characterized by XRD and Rietveld refinement, EXAFS, XPS, TPR analyses. Promotion of La0.6Sr0.4Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δand of La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-δby incorporation of palladium was evidenced by solving the local environment of Pd using EXAFS spectroscopy. XPS analyses, in agreement with TPR measurements, demonstrated an inc…
Controlled type-I–type-II transition in GaAs/AlAs/AlxGa1−xAs double-barrier quantum wells
1997
We show that the insertion of extremely narrow AlAs layers in double-barrier GaAs/AlAs/${\mathrm{Al}}_{\mathrm{x}}$${\mathrm{Ga}}_{1\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\mathrm{x}}$As quantum wells results in a variety of electronic configurations, thus providing a powerful tool for tailoring the electronic transitions in GaAs heterostructures. In particular, the transition from type-I to type-II recombination is shown to occur in correspondence with variations by a single monolayer in the thickness of the AlAs and/or GaAs layers. Drastic changes in the recombination lifetimes are correspondingly observed; at the same time, the photoluminescence efficiency is found to be almost independent of the type-I-…
XAFS study of interchain and intrachain order inSe1−xTexglasses: Nearest neighbors
1998
XAFS measurements (LURE and NSLS) of ${\mathrm{Se}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Te}}_{x}$ glasses have been carried out on both the Se and Te $K$ edges at low and room temperatures. Using a multishell best-fit analysis procedure, we have reconstructed the Se and Te local environment: first-shell intrachain nearest neighbors $(\mathrm{Se}\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{Se}}_{1}, \mathrm{Se}\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{Te}}_{1}, \mathrm{Te}\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{Se}}_{1},$ and $\mathrm{Te}\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{Te}}_{1}).$ We conclude that the intrachain chemical order (preferential of Se-Te pairs) increases with Te content in the glasses. On the other hand, we suggest a random distribution of Se and Te atom…
