Effect of Size of Solvent Molecule on the Adsorption of p- and o-Xylene on ZSM-5 Type Zeolites and Mechanism of Adsorption
1994
Summary The adsorption isotherms of p- and o-xylene have been studied on MFI-type zeolites of different alumina to silica ratios from solvents of different molecular sizes. The adsorption is mainly controlled by the shape and size of the pore opening relative to the size and shape of the sorbate and the solvent molecules. Aluminum containing zeolites formed colored π-complexes with p-xylene.

Design, synthesis and spectral studies of novel bile acid-arene conjugates: Trans to cis isomerization of azobenzene core controlled by bile acid hyd…
2008
Abstract Four bile acid-arene conjugates, 1,4-bis[dimethyl(3α,7α,12α-trihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-amidoethyl)ammoniomethyl]benzene dibromide ( 1 ), 1,3,5-tris[dimethyl(3α,7α,12α-trihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-amidoethyl)ammoniomethyl]benzene tribromide ( 2 ), bis{4-[dimethyl(3α,7α,12α-trihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-amidoethyl)ammoniomethyl]phenyl}diazene dibromide ( 3 ), and bis{4-[dimethyl(3α-hydroxy-5β-cholan-24-amidoethyl)ammoniomethyl]phenyl}diazene dibromide ( 4 ), have been synthesized in good yields, and their structures have been characterized by 1 H, 13 C, 13 C DEPT-135, PFG 1 H, 13 C HMQC, PFG 1 H, 13 C HMBC, and PFG 1 H, 15 N HMBC NMR spectra. Their molecular weights and elemental compositions have…
The reaction of optically active α-aminocarboxylic acid hydrazides with triethyl orthoesters
2011
New derivatives of 2-(1-amino-1-phenylmethyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole and 1,2,4-triazin-6-one were synthesised in the reactions of optically active α-aminocarboxylic acid hydrazides and triethyl orthoesters in xylene. The electronic and steric effects of substituents at the α position influencing the formation of five- or six-membered products are discussed.
Green determination of the presence of volatile organic compounds in vehicle repair shops through passive sampling.
2012
A simple, fast and green direct analytical methodology has been developed to evaluate the concentration level of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in indoor areas of vehicle repair shops using membrane devices as passive samplers. VOCs retained in the samplers were directly determined without any sample pre-treatment and avoiding the use of solvents by head space (HS) coupled to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) in only 20 min. Benzene, toluene, tetrachloroethene, m,p-xylene and o-xylene were found at concentration levels from 0.1 to 11.2 mg m(-3).
Adsorption of m-Xylene on Prehydrated Zeolite BaX: Correlation between Temperature-Programmed Desorption and Low-Temperature Neutron Powder Diffract…
1999
Adsorption of m-xylene on partially hydrated zeolite BaX is studied by thermogravimetry, mass spectrometry, temperature-programmed desorption and neutron diffraction for different m-xylene loadings of the zeolite. Macroscopic and microscopic measurements, for both molecules, were correlated and relationships were found between the crystallographic positions of the adsorbed molecules on the zeolite and macroscopic properties such as the number and the area of the peaks in the desorption spectra for m-xylene or water. The influence of water molecules on the adsorption phenomenon of m-xylene on BaX zeolite was characterized. In particular, it was shown that the increase of the filling of the p…
Development of a versatile, easy and rapid atmospheric monitor for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes determination in air
2009
Abstract A new procedure for the passive sampling in air of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene isomers (BTEX) is proposed. A low-density polyethylene layflat tube filled with a mixture of solid phases provided a high versatility tool for the sampling of volatile compounds from air. Several solid phases were assayed in order to increase the BTEX absorption in the sampler and a mixture of florisil and activated carbon provided the best results. Direct head-space-gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (HS-GC–MS) measurement of the whole deployed sampler was employed for a fast determination of BTEX. Absorption isotherms were used to develop simple mathematical models for the estimation of…
Isobaric Vapor−Liquid Equilibria for the Binary Mixtures of Styrene with Ethylbenzene, o-Xylene, m-Xylene, and p-Xylene
2006
Consistent vapor−liquid equilibria (VLE) data have been determined at (5 and 15) kPa for the binary systems styrene + ethylbenzene, + o-xylene, + m-xylene, and + p-xylene in the temperature range (324 to 359) K. The binary systems exhibit very slight deviations from ideal behavior, and no azeotrope is present. The VLE data were well-correlated by the Wilson, NRTL, and UNIQUAC equations.
