Effect of content and particle size distribution of high-calcium fly ash on the rheological properties of cement pastes
1997
Abstract The Theological properties of high-calcium fly ash cement pastes were investigated. An increase both in yield value and plastic viscosity with fly ash content was found. It was also observed that the pastes became more fluid with the higher fly ash fineness. A more important relation was shown between the fine fractions (
Malonato complexes of oxidovanadium(IV): Synthesis, structural characterization and exploration of their insulin mimetic properties
2011
Abstract Several bis-malonatooxidovanadium(IV) complexes of the general type [M2(H2O)n][VO(mal)2(H2O)] (where M = Li(1), Na(2), K(3), Cs(4) and NH4(5); n = 3.5, 1, 3, 1 and 1, respectively) were isolated in good yield and high purity. These complexes were fully characterized by various physicochemical techniques (elemental analysis, UV–Vis, IR, EPR, CV, etc.) complexes 1, 2 and 3 were structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. In vivo antidiabetic properties of bis-malonato complexes 1, 2, 3 and 5 have been studied using Streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Significant lowering of blood sugar level has been noticed. At the same time these complexes were found…
Chemical and catalytical properties of thermal polymers of amino acids (proteinoids)
1974
The significance of thermal polyamino acids (proteinoids) as abiotic predecessors of proteins is reviewed on the basis of new experimental results. Most proteinoids yield only 50% to 80% amino acid upon acid hydrolysis. They contain 40% to 60% less peptide links than typical proteins, whereas their average nitrogen content is like that of proteins. The arrangement of amino acid residues is nonrandom. The degree of nonrandomness is difficult to determine because unusual crosslinks disturb most of the sequencing methods typically applied in protein chemistry. The products obtained in a polymerization experiment are heterogeneous. They can be separated into a limited number of related fraction…
‘One-Pot’ Synthesis of Raumacline from Ajmaline
1993
For the alkaloid raumacline (2), which is a biotransformation product of ajmaline (1) in Rauwolfia serpentina cell cultures, an efficient ‘one-pot’ synthesis was developed using a NaBH4/riboflavin/light-mediated transformation of 1 into 2 with a total yield of 86%.
Study of Mechanisms of Light-Induced Dissociation of Ru(dcbpy)(CO)2I2 in Solution down to 20 fs Time Resolution
2006
Mechanisms of the light-induced ligand exchange reaction of (trans-I) Ru(dcbpy)(CO)2I2 (dcbpy = 4,4'-dicarboxylic acid-2,2'-bipyridine) in ethanol have been studied by transient absorption spectroscopy. Ultraviolet 20 fs excitation pulses centered at 325 nm were used to populate a vibrationally hot excited pi bipyridyl state of the reactant that quickly relaxes to a dissociative Ru-I state resulting in the release of one of the carbonyl groups. Quantum yield measurements have indicated that about 40% of the initially exited reactant molecules form the final photoproduct. A 62 fs rise component in the transient absorption (TA) signal was observed at all probe wavelengths in the visible regio…
Kinetics of styrene biodegradation by Pseudomonas sp. E-93486
2011
The research into kinetics of styrene biodegradation by bacterial strain Pseudomonas sp. E-93486 coming from VTT Culture Collection (Finland) was presented in this work. Microbial growth tests in the presence of styrene as the sole carbon and energy source were performed both in batch and continuous cultures. Batch experiments were conducted for initial concentration of styrene in the liquid phase changed in the range of 5–90 g m−3. The Haldane model was found to be the best to fit the kinetic data, and the estimated constants of the equation were: μm = 0.1188 h−1, KS = 5.984 mg l−1, and Ki = 156.6 mg l−1. The yield coefficient mean value \documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \…
Superradiance and Exciton (De)localization in Light-Harvesting Complex II from Green Plants?
2002
Fluorescence quantum yield and fluorescence lifetime measurements were performed on trimeric light-harvesting complex II (LHCII) from spinach in the temperature range 7−293 K. From the results the radiative rate was calculated, which is related to the amount of delocalization of excitations over different pigments because of intermolecular interactions. The emitting dipole strength of LHCII is very similar to that of unbound Chl a, and it appears to be almost independent of temperature. The apparent increase of the radiative rate upon lowering the temperature can largely be explained by the shrinking of the sample. It is concluded that at all temperatures the amount of exciton delocalizatio…
SIMSISAK – a Method to Model Nuclide Transport in the SISAK System
2019
A computer model that calculates the transport yield of a nuclide through an arbitrary SISAK experimental set-up has been developed. The model is intended to be used for two types of calculations connected to chemical studies of the heaviest elements. If the production cross section and the nuclide half-life are known, it can be used to estimate the number of decay events to be expected at the detection site. Consequently, if the number of atoms decaying in the detection cells is known, it can be used to estimate the production cross section or the half-life, provided that one of these properties is known.
Synthesis and X-ray structure of cationic β-diimine palladium complexes containing π-methallyl ligand
2005
High yield of cationic palladium β-diimine complexes [(CH 2 (MeCNAr) 2 )Pd(η 3 -C 4 H 7 )][Y] (Ar = C 6 H 5 , Y = PF 6 (8); 2-Me-C 6 H 4 , Y = PF 6 (9); 2,6-Me 2 -C 6 H 3 , Y = PF 6 (10); 2,6-iPr 2 -C 6 H 3 , Y = PF 6 (11), Y = B(3,5-(CF 3 ) 2 -C 6 H 3 ) 4 (12)) have been obtained by an oxidative addition of the methallyloxyphosphonium salts (5, 6) to a preformed complex Pd(dba) 2 (7) in the presence of the β-iminoamine ligands (1-4). These complexes are thermally stable and have been characterized by 'H and 1 3 C{ 1 H} NMR as well as IR spectroscopy. The structure of the cationic allyl palladium complex (12) has been solved by X-ray crystallography.
Postsynthetic Improvement of the Physical Properties in a Metal-Organic Framework through a Single Crystal to Single Crystal Transmetallation
2015
As ingle crystal to single crystal transmetallation process takes place in the three-dimensional (3D) metal- organic framework (MOF) of formula Mg II 2{Mg II 4(Cu II 2- (Me3mpba)2)3}·45 H2 O( 1 ;M e 3mpba 4¢ = N,N'-2,4,6-trimethyl- 1,3-phenylenebis(oxamate)). After complete replacement of the Mg II ions within the coordination network and those hosted in the channels by either Co II or Ni II ions, 1 is transmetallated to yield two novel MOFs of formulae Co2 II {Co II 4(Cu II 2(Me3- mpba)2)3}·56 H2 O( 2 )a nd Ni2 II {Ni II 4(Cu II 2(Me3mpba)2)3}· 54 H2 O( 3). This unique postsynthetic metal substitution affords materials with higher structural stability leading to enhanced gas sorption and m…
