The influence of rearing conditions on Flavobacterium columnare infection of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum), was studied experimentally in the laboratory and at a fish farm. In experiment I, the effect of parasitic infection on columnaris disease was studied using F. columnare carrier fish. The fish were exposed to Diplostomum spathaceum cercariae and a set of other stressors in order to induce clinical columnaris infection. Parasitic infection and other stressors failed to induce the disease. Publikacijoje analizuojamas Latvijos požiūris į lietuvių ir lenkų santykius 1920 m. įvykių metu. 1920 m. rugsėjį latvių politikai turėjo ketinimų pagerinti Baltijos regiono šalių santykius su Sovietų Rusija, tačiau generolo L. Želigovskio kariniai veiksmai Vilniaus krašte palaidojo bet kokias viltis. Latvijos vyriausybė lietuviams ir lenkams siūlė susitikti deryboms Rygoje, bet lenkai atsisakė. Buvo spėjama, kad L Želigovskis palaiko ryšius su Varšuva. Latviai labai norėjo išvengti bet kokio konflikto su lenkais ir įvairiomis priemonėmis bei būdais to siekė. Dalį Ilūkstės apskrities lenkų ir lietuvių karinės pajėgos okupavo 1919 m. vasarą. Lenkų valdžios įstaigos nedelsdamos įtraukė 6 apskrities rytinės dalies valsčius ir Gryvos miestą į savo valstybės sudėtį ir atsisakė svarstyti šį klausimą su Latvijos atstovais. Klausimas buvo išspręstas tiktai 1920 m. liepos pradžioje, kai dėl Raudonosios armijos puolimo lenkų kariuomenė buvo priversta pasitraukti iš Ilūkstės apskrities. Tuo pasinaudojo Latvijos pusė, tuo momentu pagal savo galimybes užimdami dalį tos teritorijos. Likusią užėmė lietuviai, kurie jau nuo 1919 m. vasaros buvo rūpimoje Ilūkstės apskrities dalyje. Lactococcus garvieae is the etiological agent of lactococcosis disease, affecting many cultured fish species worldwide. In addition, this bacterium is currently considered a potential zoonotic microorganism since it is known to cause several opportunistic human infections. Abstract Potential immunostimulatory effects of orally administered β-glucan were investigated in combination with immersion vaccination against enteric redmouth disease caused by Yersinia ruckeri in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). A linear, unbranched and pure (purity ≥98%) β-1,3-glucan (syn. paramylon) from the alga Euglena gracilis was applied at an inclusion level of 1% β-glucan in feed administered at a rate of 1% biomass day−1 for 84 consecutive days. Ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation is known to have various effects on the immune system of fish, but the effect on the actual disease resistance has remained largely unknown. Here we studied the effect of UVB on the resistance of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) against a bacterium Yersinia ruckeri, the causative agent of enteric red mouth disease, and a trematode parasite Diplostomum spathaceum, which causes cataracts in fish. The fish were exposed to UVB irradiation seven times in 14 days, and inoculated intraperitoneally with Y. ruckeri on day 5 after the first irradiation. This paper examines the efficiency of acquired resistance in protecting the fish host, rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), against the trematode parasite Diplostomum spathaceum, and the hypothesis that fish recognize areas where infective stages are aggregated and show avoidance behaviour. We found that when fish with a low level of infection were held in restricted cages in natural conditions they became infected and developed cataracts as a result of this infection. This suggests that acquired resistance is insufficient in protecting fish against the parasite or the deleterious effects of infection in conditions where fish could not avoid the parasite. The Finnish word ’henkilö’ is difficult to translate in English as a ‘Person’, but in international plan-language, Esperanto, we can quite exactly translate it as ‘spiritulo’. The word henkilö, spiritulo, is developed in the 19th century from the ancient Finnish word ‘henki’ by the medical doctor in Jyväskylä region Wolmar Schildt-Kilpinen. He was not satisfied with the simple translation from Latin word ‘persona’ to Finnish ‘persoona’, and so via the ancient word he conceptually combined the spiritulo to the dialectical process of negation of negation of the ethnic culture – elite culture – national culture.
