2007

International audience; The reaction between Y5O(OPri)13 and allylacetatoacetate or 2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl acetatoacetate in 1:5 stoichiometry afforded octanuclear oxohydroxo species. Structural characterization was achieved for the allylacetatoacetate derivative homo and copolymerisation reactions with styrene were evaluated for doping of polystyrene. Hydoxo species, Y4(OH)2(AAA)10, where also obtained by reacting Y[N(SiMe3)]3 and HAAA.

Heterobimetallicd—f Metal Complexes as Potential Single-Source Precursors for MOCVD: Structure and Thermodynamic Study of the Sublimation of [Ni(sale…

1998

Heterobimetallic [Ni(salen)Ln(hfa)3] species [H2salen and Hhfa being N,N′-ethylenebis(salicylideneimine) and hexa-fluoroacetylacetone respectively], where Ni(salen) acts as a neutral chelating ligand towards LnIII, form a series of isostructural compounds for Ln = YIII and any lanthanideIII cation from La to Yb. They are also isostructural with some of the [Cu(salen)Ln(hfa)3] compounds. They sublime without decomposition under vacuum which makes them potential single-source precursors in MOCVD. Sublimation, thermal behaviour, pressure and composition of the vapour phase versus temperature have been studied for the yttrium derivative, by means of thermal analyses, and mass spectrometry using…

A magnetic study of a layered lanthanide hydroxide family: Ln8(OH)20Cl4·nH2O (Ln = Tb, Ho, Er)

2018

Three layered lanthanide hydroxides (LLHs), with the general formula Ln8(OH)20Cl4·nH2O (Ln = Tb (1), Ho (2), Er (3)), were prepared and magnetically characterized. These compounds were further diluted within a yttrium diamagnetic matrix, LYH:xLn, LYH:0.044Tb (1’), LYH:0.045Ho (2’), and LYH:0.065Er (3’), being the study complemented with theoretical calculations in order to understand the electronic configuration and the contributions to the slow relaxation behavior. In the pure compounds dominant 3D ferromagnetic interactions are observed, with a small magnetization hysteresis at 1.8 K for 1, while the magnetically diluted solid solutions display slow relaxation of the magnetization at low …

Magnetic properties of the layered lanthanide hydroxide series Y(x)Dy(8-x)(OH)20Cl4·6H2O: from single ion magnets to 2D and 3D interaction effects.

2015

The magnetic properties of layered dysprosium hydroxides, both diluted in the diamagnetic yttrium analogous matrix (LYH:0.04Dy), and intercalated with 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate anions (LDyH-2,6-NDC), were studied and compared with the recently reported undiluted compound (LDyH = Dy8(OH)20Cl4·6H2O). The Y diluted compound reveals a single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior of single Dy ions, with two distinct slow relaxation processes of the magnetization at low temperatures associated with the two main types of Dy sites, 8- and 9-fold coordinated. Only one relaxation process is observed in both undiluted LDyH and intercalated compounds as a consequence of dominant ferromagnetic Dy-Dy intera…

Neutral and cationic trimethylsilylmethyl complexes of the rare earth metals supported by a crown ether: synthesis and structural characterization

2003

The synthesis of a series of thermally robust, isolable trimethylsilylmethyl complexes of the rare earth metals stabilized by 12-crown-4 [Ln(CH2SiMe3)3(12-crown-4)] (Ln = Sc, Y, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu) is reported. The crystallographically characterized yttrium and lutetium complexes [Ln(CH2SiMe3)3(12-crown-4)] exhibit facial coordination of the crown ether at the neutral lanthanide trialkyl unit. The coordination geometry can be derived from a capped octahedron. VT NMR spectroscopic studies revealed a labile coordination of the crown ether in thf solution. Reaction of the diamagnetic derivatives with triethylammonium tetraphenylborate in thf results in the clean formation of th…

(Table 1) Geochemistry of ODP Site 160-963 sediments

2010

The Mediterranean Sea acts as a miniature ocean with the development of its own conveyor belt. It constitutes an ideal location to study and forecast how the marine environment responds to rapid climatic change. Here we present a palaeoenvironmental study carried out on the sediments of ODP Site 963, recovered in the Sicily Channel, the sill which divides the western from the eastern Mediterranean basin. We focused on the transition between the penultimate glacial (MIS 6) and the last interglacial (MIS 5), between approximately 130 and 115 kyr BP. A novel approach is proposed, taking into account centennial-scale geochemical data on major elements, selected trace elements, and yttrium and R…

Length Scale of the Spin Seebeck Effect

2015

We investigate the origin of the spin Seebeck effect in yttrium iron garnet (YIG) samples for film thicknesses from 20 nm to 50  μm at room temperature and 50 K. Our results reveal a characteristic increase of the longitudinal spin Seebeck effect amplitude with the thickness of the insulating ferrimagnetic YIG, which levels off at a critical thickness that increases with decreasing temperature. The observed behavior cannot be explained as an interface effect or by variations of the material parameters. Comparison to numerical simulations of thermal magnonic spin currents yields qualitative agreement for the thickness dependence resulting from the finite magnon propagation length. This allow…

Pulmonary Laser Metastasectomy by 1318-nm Neodymium-Doped Yttrium-Aluminum Garnet Laser: A Retrospective Study About Laser Metastasectomy of the Lung

2018

Background. The lungs are among the first organ affected by remote metastases from many primary tumors. The surgical resection of isolated pulmonary metastases represents an important and effective element of therapy. This is a retrospective study about our entire experience with pulmonary resection for metastatic cancer using 1318-nm neodymium-doped yttrium-aluminum garnet laser. Method. In this single-institution study, we retrospectively analyzed a group of 209 patients previously treated for primary malignant solid tumors. We excluded 103 patients. The number and location of lesions in the lungs was determined using chest computed tomography and positron emission tomography-computed tom…

Periodontal Treatment with an Er:YAG Laser or Scaling and Root Planing. A 2-Year Follow-Up Split-Mouth Study

2003

Non-surgical periodontal treatment with an Er:YAG laser has been shown to result in significant clinical attachment level gain; however, clinical results have not been established on a long-term basis following Er:YAG laser treatment. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to present the 2-year results following non-surgical periodontal treatment with an Er:YAG laser or scaling and root planing.Twenty patients with moderate to advanced periodontal destruction were treated under local anesthesia, and the quadrants were randomly allocated in a split-mouth design to either 1) Er:YAG laser (ERL) using an energy level of 160 mJ/pulse and 10 Hz, or 2) scaling and root planing (SRP) using han…

Liver Transplantation for Hepatocellular Carcinoma After Yttrium Therapy: A Case Report

2008

Yttrium-90 microspheres constitute one of the most recent treatment options for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the setting of cirrhosis. As such, their spectrum of indication is not yet fully established. Herein, we have reported the case of a patient with HCC beyond the listing criteria for liver transplantation (OLT) who was treated preoperatively with selective transarterial chemoembolization and yttrium-90 microspheres. He was subsequently transplanted with a liver from an 81-year-old donor allocated through Eurotransplant as a "rescue offer." The posttransplant course was uneventful. Pathologic examination revealed a multifocal, well-differentiated pT2 tumor with no vascular invasio…
