Plasma Polymer Membranes for Immobilising Metalloporphyrins

2013

Atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge formation of organosilicon thin films loaded with zinc 5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin (Zn(TPP)) was investigated for different deposition conditions. UV–visible spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy revealed the effects of the metalloporpyhrins injection parameters and the plasma polymerisation conditions can affect the dispersion of the metalloporphyrins and the morphology of the coatings. The stability of the embedded Zn(TPP) molecules was investigated by orbitrap mass spectrometry.

Straightforward Approach for Preparing Durable Antibacterial ZnO Nanoparticle Coatings on Flexible Substrates

2022

Flexible antibacterial materials have gained utmost importance in protection from the distribution of bacteria and viruses due to the exceptional variety of applications. Herein, we demonstrate a readily scalable and rapid single-step approach for producing durable ZnO nanoparticle antibacterial coating on flexible polymer substrates at room temperature. Substrates used are polystyrene, poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) copolymer, poly(methyl methacrylate), polypropylene, high density polyethylene and a commercial acrylate type adhesive tape. The deposition was achieved by a spin-coating process using a slurry of ZnO nanoparticles in toluene. A stable modification layer was obtained when tolu…

Sorption of Cadmium and Zinc in Selected Species of Epigeic Mosses

2014

The sorption abilities of seven moss species growing on the area of Bory Stobrawskie forest (southern Poland) were tested in laboratory. Sorption was carried out in solutions of Zn and Cd chlorides. It has been shown that the sorption properties depend on the moss species and increases in the series as follows: Polytrichum commune < Leucobryum glaucum < Eurhynchium praelongum < Thuidium tamtariscifolium ≤ Dicranum scoparium ≤ Pleurozium schreberi < Sphagnum sp. With help of microscope images, it was also demonstrated that one of the factors affecting the sorption properties of mosses was the level of their surface development. The determined sorption capacity of Zn varies according to speci…

Zn-Enhanced Asp-Rich Antimicrobial Peptides N-Terminal Coordination by Zn(II) and Cu(II), Which Distinguishes Cu(II) Binding to Different Peptides

2021

The antimicrobial activity of surfactant-associated anionic peptides (SAAPs), which are isolated from the ovine pulmonary surfactant and are selective against the ovine pathogen Mannheimia haemolytica, is strongly enhanced in the presence of Zn(II) ions. Both calorimetry and ITC measurements show that the unique Asp-only peptide SAAP3 (DDDDDDD) and its analogs SAAP2 (GDDDDDD) and SAAP6 (GADDDDD) have a similar micromolar affinity for Zn(II), which binds to the N-terminal amine and Asp carboxylates in a net entropically-driven process. All three peptides also bind Cu(II) with a net entropically-driven process but with higher affinity than they bind Zn(II) and coordination that involves the N…

Porphyrin amino acids-amide coupling, redox and photophysical properties of bis(porphyrin) amides.

2013

New trans-AB2C meso-substituted porphyrin amino acid esters with meso-substituents of tunable electron withdrawing power (B = mesityl, 4-C6H4F, 4-C6H4CF3, C6F5) were prepared as free amines 3a-3d, as N-acetylated derivatives Ac-3a-Ac-3d and corresponding zinc(II) complexes Zn-Ac-3a-Zn-Ac-3d. Several amide-linked bis(porphyrins) with a tunable electron density at each porphyrin site were obtained from the amino porphyrin precursors by condensation reactions (4a-4d) and mono- and bis(zinc(II)) complexes Zn(2)-4d and Zn(1)Zn(2)-4d were prepared. The electronic interaction between individual porphyrin units in bis(porphyrins) 4 is probed by electrochemical experiments (CV, EPR), electronic abso…

Polystyrene Sulfonate–Porphyrin Assemblies: Influence of Polyelectrolyte and Porphyrin Structure

2011

In this study, electrostatic self-assembly of different polystyrene sulfonates and a set of tetravalent cationic porphyrins is investigated. It is shown that association of linear polystyrene sulfonates of different molar masses yields finite size nanoscale assemblies that are stable in aqueous solution. Aggregates are compared to the ones of cylindrical brushes, revealing that both form assemblies in the 100 nm range with the charge ratio (molar ratio of porphyrin charges to polyelectrolyte charges) being determining, while the morphology of the resulting network-like assemblies is different for both polyelectrolyte architectures. For the smallest 8k polystyrene sulfonate, in addition, sto…

Three-Metal Coordination by Novel Bisporphyrin Architectures

2010

The synthesis and characterization of a new type of bisporphyrin system is reported where the two macrocycles are linked in a cofacial arrangement by a substituted carbazole bridge. The three nitrogen atoms of the carbazole bridge in the compounds may complex a metal ion and thus provide a new parameter for varying the physical properties and flexibility of the dyad after formation of a three-metal system. In the present study, four bis-metalloporphyrin complexes were synthesized and examined by electrochemistry and thin-layer spectroelectrochemistry in CH(2)Cl(2) and PhCN. Two of the examined compounds contain Cu(II) or Zn(II) porphyrins and a carbazole linker with a bound Cu(II) ion, givi…

Templated synthesis of a large and flexible covalent porphyrinic cage bearing orthogonal recognition sites.

2012

A large covalent cage incorporating two porphyrins attached by four long and flexible polyether chains each bearing two 3-pyridyl ligands was synthesized from a DABCO-templated olefin metathesis reaction. The X-ray structure of the cage with the DABCO coordinated inside the cavity to the two zinc(II) porphyrins reveals a highly symmetric structure.

Electrodeposited nickel–zinc alloy nanostructured electrodes for alkaline electrolyzer

2022

Abstract Over the last decade, as a consequence of the global decarbonization process, the interest towards green hydrogen production has drastically increased. In particular a substantial research effort has focused on the efficient and affordable production of carbon-free hydrogen production processes. In this context, the development of more efficient electrolyzers with low-cost electrode/electrocatalyst materials can play a key role. This work, investigates the fabrication of electrodes of nickel-zinc alloys with nanowires morphology cathode for alkaline electrolyzers. Electrodes are obtained by the simple method of template electrosynthesis that is also inexpensive and easily scalable.…
