Using phylogeography to promote dormouse conservation: the case of Muscardinus avellanarius (Rodentia, Gliridae)

this study describes the phylogeographic history of the common dormouse, Muscardinus avellanarius rodent strictly protected in europe (habitat directive, annex iv; Bern convention, annex iii). We analyzed the genetics of 120 common dormice across the species’ range, using sequences data from the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene (704 pb). the dataset obtained was analyzed using different phylogenetic reconstructions as well as other methods adapted to phylogeography. Breeding abundance of threatened raptors as estimated from occurrence data

A model derived from the negative binomial distribution (NBD) has been proposed to solve the problem of predicting abundance of species from occurrence maps. The viability of NBD was explored for predicting the breeding abundance of five threatened species of raptor: Bonelli's Eagle Hieraaetus fasciatus, Golden Eagle Aquila chrysaetos, Peregrine Falco peregrinus, Lanner Falco biarmicus and Lesser Kestrel Falco naumanni. Le conoscenze relative alla fauna ad ostracodi delle acque interne dei paesi del Mediterraneo centro-meridionale risultano ad oggi piuttosto lacunose e frammentarie e per molte aree geografiche non sono disponibili studi organici né checklist aggiornate. In questo lavoro sono state analizzate la ricchezza specifica, il turn-over e la struttura della comunità di uccelli in una successione secondaria da incendio (Erico-Quercion ilicis) nel Parco Regionale delle Madonie (Sicilia). Nelle primavere del 2002 e 2003 sono stati effettuati censimenti mediante punti d’ascolto in 6 aree campione di 100 ha bruciate tra il 1993 e il 2001, e in 4 settori di controllo situati in boschi non percorsi dal fuoco rispettivamente da 25 e 50 anni. Nella serie post incendio sono state censite complessivamente 33 specie di uccelli. The renewed interest in the study of genes of immunity in Cnidaria has led to additional information to the scenario of the first stages of immunity evolution revealing the cellular processes involved in symbiosis, in the regulation of homeostasis and in the fight against infections.
