Blood flow patterns spatially associated with platelet aggregates in murine colitis.

In the normal murine mucosal plexus, blood flow is generally smooth and continuous. In inflammatory conditions, such as chemically-induced murine colitis, the mucosal plexus demonstrates markedly abnormal flow patterns. The inflamed mucosal plexus is associated with widely variable blood flow velocity as well as discontinuous and even bidirectional flow. To investigate the mechanisms responsible for these blood flow patterns, we used intravital microscopic examination of blood flow within the murine mucosal plexus during dextran sodium sulphate-and trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid-induced colitis. Influence of Structural Isomerism on the Electronic Properties of Extended Phthalocyanines

Abstract The electronic structure of isomeric naphthalocyanines (H2Nc) is investigated using the nonempirical valence effective Hamiltonian (VEH) technique. The way the outer benzene rings are annelated (linearly as in 2,3-H2Nc or angularly as in 1,2-H2Nc) is shown to determine very important changes in the electronic properties. While similar properties to those of phthalocyanine are calculated for 1,2-H2Nc, lower oxidation potentials and red-shifted optical absorptions are predicted for 2,3-H2Nc in agreement with experimental data. Dimerization control in the self-assembly behavior of copillar[5]arenes bearing ω-hydroxyalkoxy groups.

Two novel copillar[5]arenes bearing ω-hydroxyalkoxy groups are synthesized and their self-assembly properties are studied by (1)H NMR spectroscopy, specific viscosity, and X-ray measurements. The copillar[5]arene 2b bearing a 6-hydroxyhexyloxy group exhibits a reversible self-assembly behavior, leading to the formation of the self-inclusion monomer and hugging dimers. The reversible self-assembly behavior can be controlled by tuning solvent, temperature, guest, and H-bond interaction. However, the copillar[5]arene 2a bearing a short 4-hydroxybutyloxy group does not show such a self-assembly behavior to the formation of the self-inclusion monomer and hugging dimers.
OH–π and halogen–π interactions as driving forces in the crystal organisations of tri-bromo and tri-iodo trityl alcohols

The trityl alcohols bearing three bromine or three iodine atoms at the para-positions of the aromatic units, have been known for more than a hundred years. In our case these compounds have been synthesized in one-pot sequence starting from the 1,4-dihalogenobenzenes via mono-lithiation and the successive reaction with diethylcarbonate. The compounds have been crystallized from different solvent mixtures leading to one structure of bromo- (A) and three structures of iodo trityl alcohols (B–D). The inclusion of dichloromethane (C) or benzene (D) in the crystalline lattices has been observed. The possible impact of recreational fishing on the Sicilian pond turtle Emys trinacris was investigated in two permanent water bodies in western Sicily (Italy). Overall, 120 specimens were temporarily captured and X-rayed in order to determine the possible presence of fishhooks in their mouth, throat, or gastrointestinal tract. At the studied sites, none of the Xrayed turtles showed any evidence of ingested fishhooks or other fishing gears, thus suggesting limited impact of recreational fishing.
