Leptin: A pivotal mediator of intestinal inflammation in mice

Abstract Background & Aims: In addition to acting as a regulator of food intake and energy expenditure, leptin can also modulate immune and inflammatory responses. The role of leptin in intestinal inflammation is the focus of the present study. Methods: Acute and chronic colitis were induced in leptin-deficient ob/ob or wild-type (WT) mice using dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) or trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS). The severity of colitis was evaluated, and possible mechanisms were studied. Results: Leptin directly stimulates intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) and lamina propria mononuclear cells (LPMCs). Mezenteriālā išēmija ir retāk sastopama slimība ar augstiem mirstības rādītajiem. Zarnas ir visjutīgākais orgāns pret išēmijas izraisītiem bojājumiem. Akūta mezenteriāla išēmija rodas, ja zarnas netiek nodrošinātas ar pietiekamu skābekļa daudzumu. Šīs slimības diagnoze var būt sarežģīta, jo simptomi ir līdzīgi citu slimību patoloģijām un slimības stāvoklis parasti strauji progresē. Abstract Reactions of sodium 5-[(E)-2-(aryl)-1-diazenyl]quinolin-8-olates (LH, where the aryl group is an R-substituted phenyl ring such that for L1H: R = H; L2H: R = 2′-CH3; L3H: R = 3′-CH3; L4H: R = 4′-CH3; L5H: R = 4′-OCH3 and L6H: R = 4′-OC2H5) with Ph3SnCl in a 1:1 molar ratio yielded complexes of composition Ph3SnL. The complexes have been characterized by 1H, 13C, 119Sn NMR, IR and 119mSn Mossbauer spectroscopic techniques in combination with elemental analyses. The crystal structures of Ph3SnL1 · 0.5C6H6 (1), Ph3SnL2 (2), Ph3SnL5 · C6H6 (5) and Ph3SnL6 · 0.5C6H6 (6) were determined. Recent research suggests that as a social public problem, domestic violence is sustained in a number of social contexts that naturalize violence against women through gendered discourses and ideologies of male violence. This paper examines domestic violence vis-à-vis public participation in the media. In doing so, it seeks to explore the social public aspects of domestic violence and to investigate whether the gendered discourse of male violence is also sustained through the new electronic spaces of public participation. Not a footprint to be seen: isolation in the interplay between words, music and image in two Dutch-language dubbed versions of ‘Let it go’

Animated musical films, such as Disney’s Frozen, have long been immensely popular among the globe; however, the investigation of the songs of such films in a dubbing context constitutes a relatively new area of research. This paper compares the theme of isolation in one song from Frozen, ‘Let it go’, in the two Dutch-language dubbed versions released in, respectively, the Netherlands and Belgium. The triangle of aspects, an analytical model for animated musical films, is used to analyse the musical, visual, and verbal codes of ‘Let it go’ and categorise differences between the TTs and the ST. In this paper I will reflect on the role of photographs in the works of Daša Drndić. Mixing fictional and documentary modes is a characteristic feature of her texts. It is achieved among others by utilizing visual representations of the past. In my paper I aim to outline the strategies of visualization applied by the authoress (especially the traumatic, Holocaust-related experience), which materialize through photographs included in her works of literature. In the case of Drndić the visuals include for instance contemporary or archival photographs of places marked by the Holocaust and of Jewish inhabitants of Vienna as well as portraits of war criminals.
