GROWTH AND PHOTOELECTROCHEMICAL BEHAVIOUR OF ELECTRODEPOSITED ZnO THIN FILMS FOR SOLAR CELLS
2012
Thin zinc oxide films were deposited potentiostatically from zinc nitrate aqueous solutions on ITO substrates. The influence of experimental parameters (temperature, electrolyte concentration, deposition potential) on structure and morphology of films was investigated. Deposited films were generally polycrystalline in structure, even if growth according to preferential planes occurs in certain conditions. The effect of thermal treatments in air at 150 and 350 °C was also studied. In some cases, Cl species were incorporated into deposit by adding zinc chloride to the electrolyte. A photoelectrochemical investigation, performed in neutral solution before and after thermal treatment, gives mor…
Polyfunctional Tetraaza-Macrocyclic Ligands: Zn(II), Cu(II) Binding and Formation of Hybrid Materials with Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes
2017
The binding properties of HL1, HL2, and HL3 ligands toward Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions, constituted by tetraaza-macrocyclic rings decorated with pyrimidine pendants, were investigated by means of potentiometric and UV spectrophotometric measurements in aqueous solution, with the objective of using the related HL-M(II) (HL = HL1–HL3; M = Cu, Zn) complexes for the preparation of hybrid MWCNT-HL-M(II) materials based on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), through an environmentally friendly noncovalent procedure. As shown by the crystal structure of [Cu(HL1)](ClO4)2, metal coordination takes place in the macrocyclic ring, whereas the pyrimidine residue remains available for attachment onto the s…
ZnO nanorod arrays fabrication via chemical bath deposition: Ligand concentration effect study
2010
A new ligand, N, N, N', N'-tetramethylethylenediamine, has been used to grow ZnO nanorods on silicon substrates via a two steps approach. A preliminary seeding on silicon substrates has been combined with chemical bath deposition using a Zinc acetate - N, N, N', N'-tetramethylethylenediamine aqueous solution. The used diamino ligand has been selected as Zn(2+) complexing agent and the related hydrolysis generates the reacting ions (Zn(2-) and OH(-)) responsible for the ZnO growth. The seed layer has been annealed at low temperature (<200 degrees C) and the ZnO nanorods have been grown on this ZnO amorphous layer. There is experimental evidence that the ligand concentration (ranging from 5 t…
Complex formation equilibria between the acetazolamide ((5-acetamido-1,3,4-thiadiazole)-2-sulphonamide), a potent inhibitor of carbonicanhydrase, and…
1990
Abstract The stability constants for the equilibrium of complexation between acetazolamide and the divalent metal ions copper(II), nickel(II), zinc(II), and cobalt(II) have been determined by potentiometry both in water and in water-ethanol 50 vol. % solutions in 0.15 mol dm −3 NaNO 3 at 25°C. This mixed solvent has been used in order to obtain higher concentrations of acetazolamide in solution. For copper(II) and nickel(II), the binuclear species [Cu 2 (Acm) 2 ] and [Ni 2 (Acm) 3 ] 2− are detected in both solvents together with hydroxo species. The values of the stability constants are always higher in the mixed solvent than in water. For cobalt(II) and zinc(II), while in aqueous solution …
Microwave-assisted, highly enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to aromatic aldehydes catalyzed by chiral aminonaphthols
2008
Abstract New optically active aminonaphthols were obtained by condensation of 2-naphthol, benzaldehyde and ( R )-(+)-1-(1-naphthyl)ethylamine or ( R )-(+)-1-(2-naphthyl)ethylamine. Their N-methylated derivatives were also synthesized. The new aminonaphthols 2 , 4 , 5 and 7 were found to catalyze the enantioselective ethylation of aryl aldehydes to 1-aryl-1-propanols (up to 92% ee). The reactions were accelerated greatly by microwave irradiation.
Investigation of Solid State Diffusion Processes Involved in the Zinc Oxide Sulfidation Reaction
2016
Sulfidation of undoped and aluminum doped zinc oxide materials has been performed by TGA under a H2S atmosphere in order to evaluate the impact of the doping element on sulfidation reaction kinetics and mechanism. The presence of aluminum seems to slow-down the reaction kinetics. This phenomenon might be explained by a modification of the solid state diffusion processes involved in ZnO sulfidation reaction and the related ZnS outward growth, assuming the presence of aluminum atoms inside ZnO and ZnS phases. In order to determine solid state diffusion mechanisms controlling the reaction kinetics, molecular dynamics simulations were performed using a Coulomb-Buckingham potential. Firstly, the…
Kinetics of Zn2+ complexation by a ditopic phenanthroline-azamacrocyclic scorpiand-like receptor.
2012
Coordination of Zn(2+) to a ditopic phenanthroline-macrocycle receptor takes place in three steps, the first one being the coordination to the phenanthroline, followed by the slow movement of the metal to the polyamine macrocycle and a final re-arrangement to coordinate the pendent arm.
Inflammation, genes and zinc in Alzheimer's disease.
2007
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a heterogeneous and progressive neurodegenerative disease which in Western society mainly accounts for clinical dementia. AD has been linked to inflammation and metal biological pathway. Neuro-pathological hallmarks are senile plaques, resulting from the accumulation of several proteins and an inflammatory reaction around deposits of amyloid, a fibrillar protein, Abeta, product of cleavage of a much larger protein, the beta-amyloid precursor protein (APP) and neurofibrillary tangles. Amyloid deposition, due to the accumulation of Abeta peptide, is the main pathogenetic mechanism. Inflammation clearly occurs in pathologically vulnerable regions of AD and several i…
Avoidance of Cu- and Zn-contaminated soil by three ecologically different earthworm species
2005
Earthworm avoidance response to soils contaminated with harmful substances has been proposed as a potential tool for assessing soil toxicity with low test effort. In the present study, the objective was to find out whether three ecologically different earthworm species, Aporrectodea tuberculata (Eisen), Lumbricus rubellus (Hoffmeister), and Dendrobaena octaedra (Savigny), avoid soils simultaneously spiked with Cu and Zn. In addition, metal-contaminated field soil taken close to a Cu-Ni smelter was tested with A. tuberculata using a two-section avoidance lest procedure. All three earthworm species clearly avoided Cu/Zn contaminated soil but differently: D. octaedra was the most sensitive spe…
