High resolution spectroscopy and channel-coupling treatment of the A 1Σ+–b 3Π complex of NaRb

2002

The paper presents the study of the fully mixed A 1Σ+–b 3Π complex of the NaRb molecule based on high-resolution sub-Doppler spectroscopy and intensity measurements, ab initio relativistic calculations of energies, transition moments and spin–orbit interactions, as well as an inverted channel-coupling approach (ICCA) deperturbation analysis. A two-laser V-type pump–probe excitation scheme was employed to obtain A←X transition frequencies to 16 A-state vibrational levels from v=6 to v=21 with J from 8 to 23. Additionally, relative intensities in laser-induced A→X fluorescence spectra have been recorded, including progressions with all observable transitions to the ground state vibronic level…

Characterization of adsorbed water in MIL-53(Al) by FTIR spectroscopy and ab-initio calculations

2015

Here, we report ab-initio calculations developed with a twofold purpose: understand how adsorbed water molecules alter the infrared spectrum of the metal-organic framework MIL-53(Al) and to investigate which are the associated physico-chemical processes. The analyzed structures are the two anhydrous narrow (np⊘) and large (lp⊘) pore forms and the hydrated narrow pore form (np-H2O) of the MIL-53(Al). For these structures, we determined their corresponding infrared spectra (FTIR) and we identified the vibrational modes associated to the dominant spectral lines. We show that wagging and scissoring modes of CO2 give flexibility to the structure for facilitating the lp⊘- np⊘ transition. In our s…

Adhesion trends and growth mode of ultra-thin copper films on MgO

2004

Ab initio simulations are performed for Cu atoms adsorbed on the perfect MgO(001) substrate, with an ordered metal coverage varied from 1 monolayer (ML), i.e. almost single atoms, up t o1M L. As trong dependence of the adhesion energy and the sub-monolayer film distance from the substrate on the surface coverage and adsorbate positions (Mg 2+ or O 2− )i s discussed. The nature of interfacial bonding at all coverages is physisorption .W hen increasing Cu atomic fraction, a decrease of the substrate-induced polarization of adatoms accompanied by an increase of both in-plane metallic bonding and the interfacial distance has been found. Combining results of ab initio calculations with thermodyn…

Ab initio calculations on the molecular structure of fluorocyanopolyynes

1998

Abstract The molecular structure of the first three members of the fluorocyanopolyynes was studied by ab initio Hartree-Fock calculations with a polarized double zeta basis set and at MP2 level with the same basis set. Alternating triple and single bonds were found; a theoretical estimate of rotational constants and dipole moments was performed and a comparison with the available experimental data was made. An analysis of the theoretical vibrational frequencies of the title compounds was carried out.

An ab initio CI study on the rotational barrier of the allyl anion

1986

All-electron and pseudopotential non-empirical calculations have been performed on C 2v and C s (syn, anti) allyl anion conformations. Using a double-zeta valence-shell basis set within the Epstein-Nesbet definition of the unperturbed Hamiltonian, a value about 19 kcal/mol is found for the barrier to rotation of the allyl anion. This value is the theoretical value obtained with greater accuracy, and the lowest one for the rotational barrier.

Charged oxygen interstitials in corundum: first principles simulations

2016

Combining supercell models and hybrid B3PW exchange-correlation functionals, ab initio simulations on quasi-stable configurations of interstitial ions in α-Al2O3 (corundum) crystals and possible migration trajectories have been modelled. We have studied crystalline distortion around migrating including interatomic distances and the effective atomic charges, as well as redistributions of the electronic density. Unlike neutral interstitial atom Oi studied by us previously, migrating ion does not form dumbbells with the nearest regular oxygen ions, due to the strong Coulomb interaction with the nearest cations as well as stronger repulsion between and adjacent regular ions. We have also estima…

The adhesion properties of the Ag/α-Al2O3() interface: an ab initio study

2002

Ab initio computer simulations of the atomic and electronic structure of the Ag/a-Al2O3(0 0 0 1) (corundum) interface have been performed for a periodic two-dimensional slab model using the Hartree–Fock method and a posteriori electron correlation corrections. We have considered both Al- and O-terminated corundum substrate surfaces. The dependence of the adhesion energy on the interfacial distance has been analyzed for the two most favorable Ag adsorption positions over corundum and for two different metal coverages (a 1/3 monolayer (ML) of the Ag(1 1 1) crystallographic plane and a full Ag(1 1 1) monolayer). The two different terminations (Al- and O-) give rise to qualitatively different resu…

ChemInform Abstract: Metal-Metal Bonding and Metallic Behavior in Some ABO2 Delafossites.

2010

We present results of ab initio band structure calculations on some ABO2 delafossite oxides that have both the A and B sites occupied by transition metals. This class of materials includes insulators as well as some of the most conducting oxides. The calculations have been performed in order to understand the nature of the metallic and insulating states and the extensive metal−metal bonding displayed by these materials. The effect of polytypism on the electronic structure is examined. Among the interesting aspects of the electronic structure of these materials are the contributions from both A and B atoms to states near the Fermi energy and the highly disperse nature of bands derived from t…

Studies of structures and properties of polymeric systems containing bis-(hydroxy-arylidene)alkanones as NLO-active chromophores

2002

Abstract NLO-properties of polymer systems containing bis-(hydroxy-arylidene)alkanone chromophores were studied experimentally and analyzed using ab initio quantum chemical calculations. A monoclinic crystal structure (space group P2111) of the polyester containing fragments of such chromophores in the backbone was simulated and a reasonable agreement between the experimental and simulated X-ray powder diffraction patterns was achieved. Ab initio quantum-mechanical estimations of the SHG-observable macroscopic second-order non-linearity tensor coefficients, obtained for the polymer crystal structure at the HF SCF level, led to the major dXZZ-coefficient of 1.9 pm/V. Films of ionic complexes…

Thermodynamic stability of stoichiometric LaFeO 3 and BiFeO 3 : a hybrid DFT study

2017

BiFeO3 perovskite attracts great attention due to its multiferroic properties and potential use as a parent material for Bi1−xSrxFeO3−δ and Bi1−xSrxFe1−yCoyO3−δ solid solutions in intermediate temperature cathodes of oxide fuel cells. Another iron-based LaFeO3 perovskite is the end member for well-known solid solutions (La1−xSrxFe1−yCoyO3−δ) used for oxide fuel cells and other electrochemical devices. In this study an ab initio hybrid functional approach was used for the study of the thermodynamic stability of both LaFeO3 and BiFeO3 with respect to decompositions to binary oxides and to elements, as a function of temperature and oxygen pressure. The localized (LCAO) basis sets describing th…
