In vivo triglyceride synthesis in subcutaneous adipose tissue of humans correlates with plasma HDL parameters

Backgrounds and aims: Low concentrations of plasma HDL-C are associated with the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes. Here we aimed to explore the relationship between the in vivo fractional synthesis of triglycerides (fTG) in subcutaneous (s.q.) abdominal adipose tissue (AT), HDL-C concentrations and HDL particle size composition in non-diabetic humans. Short Sleep Duration Is Related to Emerging Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Obese Children

Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of sleep duration on cardiovascular risk factors in obese children. Methods: Cross-sectional analysis of 90 obese children ages 7 to 16 years. Anthropometric and clinical evaluation with specification of dietary and lifestyle habits was carried out during an office visit. Sleep duration was evaluated by the BEARS (B = bedtime issues, E = excessive daytime sleepiness, A = night awakening, R = regularity and duration of sleep, S = snoring) questionnaire on children's sleep characteristics. Mortality of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm with selective use of endovascular repair

The aim of this review was to examine the results over a seven-year period of treatment for ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (RAAA). From 2002 on, our tertiary referral centre offered both open and endovascular (EVAR) treatment modalities for RAAA. All patients with a proven RAAA who were admitted into our hospital were included. Primary outcome measure was surgical mortality. In total 261 patients were admitted with suspicion of acute AAA. Of these, 175 (67%) had a RAAA, confirmed by computed tomography-scanning or at laparotomy. One hundred and fifty-nine patients (90.9%) were treated, 114 by open repair and 45 by EVAR. Preoperative progressive pneumoperitoneum and botulinum toxin type A are useful tools in the preparation of patients with loss of domain hernias. Both procedures are complementary in the surgical repair, especially with the use of prosthetic techniques without tension, that allow a integral management of these patients. The aim of this paper is to update concepts related to both procedures, emphasizing the advantages that take place in the preoperative management of loss of domain hernias.

Potassium bromide again is well known to be surprisingly effective in patients with severe myoclonic epilepsy in infants (SME). Rare side effects on the skin reappeared, such as the febrile nodular panniculitis (Weber-Christian syndrome). In 1993 we described the first three cases of necrotizing panniculitis and introduced the term 'halogen panniculitis'. It is a systemic disease with crops of subcutaneous nodules, fever, elevated sedimentation rate, hepatosplenomegalia, and abdominal pain. Later severe necrosis of the skin and adipose tissue may happen with deep ulcerations. History and course of five cases, described in this paper, suggest either an allergy or toxic reason. The role of PLTP in the development of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) was investigated by using either a combination of mechanical and elastase injury at one site of mouse aorta (elastase model) or continuous infusion of angiotensin II in hyperlipidemic ApoE-knockout mice (Ang II model). 3D segmentation of abdominal aorta from CT-scan and MR images

International audience; We designed a generic method for segmenting the aneurismal sac of an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) both from multi-slice MR and CT-scan examinations. It is a semi-automatic method requiring little human intervention and based on graph cut theory to segment the lumen interface and the aortic wall of AAAs. Our segmentation method works independently on MRI and CT-scan volumes and has been tested on a 44 patient dataset and 10 synthetic images.
