Usefulness of complementary test in the study of patients with chronic abdominal pain.

2021

Introduction: Chronic abdominal pain (CAP) in children is a symptom that frequently leads to a visit to the paediatrician, which affects family life and occasionally requires the need to perform diagnostic studies (DS). The objective was to carry out a qualitative, quantitative, and economic analysis on the tests requested. Material and methods: An observational, prospective and multicentre study was conducted that included children between 4–15 years old affected by CAP. The difference between organic and functional disorders was taken into account. The following variables were collected: history, warning signs and symptoms, DS, and the cost of these. Results: The study included 235 childr…

Der Stellenwert der Sepsis nach Laparotomie im Kindesalter

1984

Laparotomy was performed on 579 children at the University Clinic of Paediatric Surgery in Mainz from 1.1.1975 to 31.12.1982. The children were up to 15 years of age; appendicitis or inguinal and umbilical hernia cases were not included. Postoperative sepsis occurred in 74 patients (12.8% of all children with laparotomy); in 51 cases positive bacteriological findings were seen besides the clinical and clinicochemical ones. Sepsis morbidity was particularly high in children who had not yet completed their first year of life (postoperative sepsis occurring in approximately every fourth infant); among the disease patterns, the following were particularly prominent: Defects of the abdominal wal…

Muscle activity in upper and lower rectus abdominus during abdominal exercises.

1996

Abstract Objective: To compare the intensity of the upper versus lower rectus abdominis (RA) muscle activity provoked by each of two different abdominal exercises and to contrast the intensity of contraction elicited by two different abdominal exercises on each RA muscle portion. Design: Nonrandomized control trial. Setting: Kinesiology laboratory in a university medicine faculty. Participants: Convenience sample of 33 healthy volunteers. Subjects who had practiced endurance or strength training activities (1.5 hours 3 days a week for 3 years) and those who had not accomplished that criterion comprised a high and a low physical activity group, respectively. Each of these two groups was divi…

Postoperative complications and waiting time for surgical intervention after radiologically guided drainage of intra-abdominal abscess in patients wi…

2021

Abstract Background In patients with active Crohn’s disease (CD), treatment of intra-abdominal abscess usually comprises antibiotics and radiologically guided percutaneous drainage (PD) preceding surgery. The aim of this study was to investigate the risk of postoperative complications and identify the optimal time interval for surgical intervention after PD. Methods A multicentre, international, retrospective cohort study was carried out. Details of patients with diagnosis of CD who underwent ultrasonography- or CT-guided PD were retrieved from hospital records using international classification of disease (ICD-10) diagnosis code for CD combined with procedure code for PD. Clinical variable…

Current drugs in early development for hereditary angioedema: potential for effective treatment

2014

Hereditary angioedema (HAE) through C1 inhibitor deficiency is a rare but important disease. It is characterized by recurrent episodes of angioedema, which commonly affects the skin (in the form of swelling in the extremities, face and genitals) as well as the gastrointestinal tract (abdominal pain attacks). In approximately 1% of cases of angiodema-related swelling, there is obstruction of the upper airway, which is potentially life-threatening. Therefore, HAE due to C1 inhibitor deficiency may be associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Recent research has added to our ever-increasing understanding of the pathogenesis of HAE, which has, in addition, new clinical trials with ne…

In vivo investigations on microcirculatory disturbances induced by crenated erythrocytes following norepinephrine application

1974

Using a special apparatus for high resolution cinephotomicrography, which allows simultaneous observation and recording of microcirculatory changes, alterations in blood flow patterns and in red cell shape during norepinephrine acting have been studied. Under physiological conditions, and during slowing of capillary blood flow due to gradual removing of 20–25% of the circulating blood volume, the normal red cells are extremely deformable while passing through mesenteric capillaries. After application of norepinephrine a general arteriolar constrictive response in the bowel wall occurs, causing a further slowing of the capillary blood flow in the mesentery. Under these circumstances the eryt…

Comparaison de la mesure des déformations de fantômes de l’aorte à partir d’image obtenues par IRM et stéréovision

2015

International audience; The study of the wall strain distribution could be helpful to improve the decision criterion for surgery of aortic aneurysm. Recently, numerical simulations can complete the data obtained from imaging measurement in order to develop reliable models. However, the used medical imaging tools are not experimentally validated, in metrological point of view. The aim of this study focused on accuracy and reliability of measurement obtained from kinetic MR sequences. The measures of deformations from MRI were compare to those obtained from stereovision system. Cylindrical phantom of silicone material similar to arterial behavior simulated a symmetric aneurysm was designed. A…

Improved technique for sheath supported contralateral limb gate cannulation in endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair

2019

Summary: Background: To present a technique of sheath supported contralateral limb gate (CLG) cannulation of modular bifurcated stent-graft in endovascular abdominal aortic repair. Materials and methods: After totally percutaneous bilateral femoral access, the 9F introducer sheath is exchanged to a 30 cm 12 fr introducer sheath over a stiff wire contralateral to the intended main stent-graft insertion side and advanced into the aorta below the lowest renal artery. Parallel to the stiff wire within the sheath an additional standard J-tip guidewire with a 5 fr Pigtail angiographic catheter is advanced to the level of the renal arteries. After main body deployment, the 12 fr introducer sheath…

Būtiski ir to diferencēt no infekcijas. Šobrīd asinsvadu ķirurgu vidū nav vienprātības par to, kā definēt PIS - febrils drudzis ir nemainīga paradigma, tomēr leikocitozes robežvērtības definīcijās atšķiras, tādējādi ietekmējot incidenci. Ir zināms, ka febriliem pacientiem ar leikocitozi agrīnā pēcoperācijas periodā izteikti do…
