Clinical pharmacokinetics of atenolol — A review

Atenolol is a hydrophilic betareceptor blocking drug, which is predominantly eliminated via the kidneys, only about 5% of the atenolol is metabolised by the liver. After oral administration atenolol is incompletely absorbed from the intestine, so about 50% of the beta blocker are finally biovailable. In plasma only 3% of atenolol are protein-bound. There exists a linear relationship between the atenolol plasma levels and the degree of beta blocking effect measured by inhibition of the exercise-induced tachycardia. International audience; Absorption spectra of the infrared ν3 and ν4 bands of CH4 perturbed by N2 over large ranges of pressure and temperature have been measured in the laboratory. A theoretical approach accounting for line mixing is proposed to (successfully) model these experiments. It is similar to that of Pieroni et al. [J Chem Phys 1999;110:7717–32] and is based on state-to-state rotational cross-sections calculated with a semi-classical approach and a few empirical parameters. Arthralgia as an early extraintestinal symptom of Whipple's disease. Report of five cases.

1997

Five patients with Whipple's disease all suffered from arthralgia for a long time (15 years in one case) before developing gastrointestinal or other symptoms. In all patients, arthralgia was seronegative, and there was no evidence of joint destruction. Arthralgias were symmetric and migrating. Whipple's disease is part of the differential diagnosis of enteropathic arthralgia. Thereby, the polymerase chain reaction can be a helpful tool to prove Whipple's disease in difficult differential diagnosis.

Multiphoton Absorption of Myoglobin Nitric-Oxide complex: Relaxation by D-NEMD of a Stationary State

ABSTRACT: The photodissociation and geminate recombination of nitric oxide in myoglobin, under continuous illumination, is modeled computationally. The relaxation of the photon energy into the protein matrix is also considered in a single simulation scheme that mimics a complete experimental setup. The dynamic approach to non-equilibrium molecular dynamics is used, starting from a steady state, to compute its relaxation to equilibrium. Second Harmonic Emission From Dielectric Nanoresonators in the Absorption Regime

We study second harmonic generation in dielectric nanocylinders as a function of the wavelength of the incident field and geometrical dimensions. Uncommonly, we consider a spectral range in which the emitted nonlinear signal is partially absorbed by the dielectric. Surprisingly, we reveal that the second harmonic efficiency does not decrease as the imaginary part of the complex dielectric refractive index increases. Indeed, the presence of higher order multipoles supported by the resonators at the fundamental wavelength can significantly boost the generated second harmonic signal even in the dielectric absorption spectral region achieving nonlinear efficiency of the same order of magnitude …

The non-linear optical properties of π-conjugated organic molecules such as TTF and their derivatives have recently gained particular interest due to their extended π-system and the strong electron donating character. The knowledge of the nonlinear optical response, as well as the impact of the charge transfer on the nonlinearity is very important. As such systems can be used in a variety of applications. In this study we investigate the nonlinear absorption of novel tetrathiafulvalene-phenanthroline based dyads by means of the Z-scan technique.

Oligothiophene derivatives play a central role in the formulation of materials used in devices in the field of organic electronics. In this work, we report the results of the study of UV-vis absorption and fluorescence spectra, in several solvents, of a series of oligothiophenes recently synthesized in our laboratory.
