A stochastic method for robustness analysis in sorting problems

2009

ELECTRE TRI is a multiple criteria decision aiding sorting method with a history of successful real-life applications. In ELECTRE TRI, values for certain parameters have to be provided. We propose a new method, SMAA-TRI, that is based on stochastic multicriteria acceptability analysis (SMAA), for analyzing the stability of such parameters. The stability analysis can be used for deriving robust conclusions. SMAA-TRI allows ELECTRE TRI to be used with uncertain, arbitrarily distributed values for weights, the lambda cutting level, and profiles. The method consists of analyzing finite spaces of arbitrarily distributed parameter values. Monte Carlo simulation is applied in this in order to desc…

Determinant Factors of Public Acceptance of Stress Management Apps: Survey Study

2019

BackgroundChronic stress is a major public health concern. Mobile health (mHealth) apps can help promote coping skills in daily life and prevent stress-related issues. However, little is known about the determinant factors of public acceptance of stress management in relation to preferences for psychological services.ObjectiveThe aim of this survey study was to (1) assess determinant factors of public acceptance (behavioral use intention) of stress management apps based on an adapted and extended version of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model and (2) explore preferences for mHealth apps compared with other mental health services.MethodsUsing convenience samp…

Relationships between early flavor exposure, and food acceptability and neophobia

2016

Revue; In the first section of this chapter, an overview of what is known about early flavor exposure, distinguishing between taste and flavor (aroma) exposure is provided. In the second section, we will describe what has been researched regarding the influence of early flavor exposure on the development of food preference, looking at prenatal exposure, exposure received in the context of milk feeding and exposure received in the context of complementary feeding. The third section is a description of what has been shown regarding the relationships between early flavor exposure and food neophobia. The chapter ended with a comment on likely future trends, and by a description of sources of fu…

Familiarity and liking playing a role on the perception of trained panelists: A cross-cultural study on teas

2015

Consumers cultural background is known to influence their food choice. To better understand the sensory perception across cultures, it is helpful to work with both a descriptive panel and consumers. This study examined how tea products of differing fermentation levels were described and liked by different cultures. Seven tea samples were evaluated by Korean and French trained panels and consumers. The trained panels evaluated the samples on appearance, flavor, and mouthfeel. The consumers rated the samples on acceptability and familiarity. The result indicated that both descriptive panels experienced varying degrees of taste and odor cross-modal interaction. On the unfamiliar samples, Frenc…

Alternative options for prescribing physical activity among obese children and adolescents: brisk walking supported by an exergaming platform

2015

[EN] Background: Physical inactivity has been identified as an important public health concern for children. An increasing sedentary way of life is directly related to obesity; hence, prevention and management of childhood obesity are commonly based on lifestyle interventions wherein increasing physical activity is one of the main targets. The use of exergames can be useful in promoting physical activity, but it is necessary more research. This study analyzes the effects of an exergaming platform that involves brisk walking, on perceived exertion, self-efficacy, positive expectations and satisfaction in a sample of clinically obese children, as compared with normal weight children. Chlorine flavor perception and neutralization in drinking water

2010

For water suppliers, using chlorine is necessary to ensure water bacteriological quality from the treatment plant to the consumers’ tap. However, chlorine flavour is one of the most common reasons advocated for choosing tap water alternatives as drinking water. As a consequence, the putative link between chlorine flavour perception and tap water consumption is an issue in drinking water habits studies. Since the sensory mechanisms involved in chlorine flavour perception remained largely unknown, the main objective of this thesis work was to first highlight those mechanisms and then to identify potential lever chlorine flavour sensory neutralisation. In a first step, we demonstrated that hypo…

Preliminary evaluation of an analog procedure to assess acceptability of intimate partner violence against women: The Partner Violence Acceptability …

2015

Acceptability of partner violence against women is a risk factor linked to its perpetration, and to public, professionals’ and victims’ responses to this behavior. Research on the acceptability of violence in intimate partner relationships is, however, limited by reliance solely on self-reports that often provide distorted or socially desirable accounts that may misrepresent respondents’ true attitudes. This study presents data on the development and initial validation of a new analog task assessing respondents’ acceptability of physical violence toward women in intimate relationships: the Partner Violence Acceptability Movie task (PVAM). This new analog task is intended to provide a more i…
