Virus replication and virion export in X-deficient hepatitis B virus transgenic mice

2002

The function of the X protein (pX) in the replication cycle of mammalian hepadnaviruses is enigmatic. Using tissue culture experiments it has been shown that the X gene product is not central to hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication and virion export. However, at present it is still unclear whether this also applies to the in vivo situation. Using a terminally redundant X-deficient HBV DNA construct, transgenic mice were established that exhibited high-level expression of the viral core protein in liver and kidneys. Importantly, replicative DNA intermediates and mature viral genomes could be detected in the liver and serum of these mice, respectively. These findings indicate that, in the in v…

Looking for pathways related to COVID-19 phenotypes: Confirmation of pathogenic mechanisms by SARS-CoV-2 - Host interactome

2020

AbstractIn the last months, many studies have clearly described several mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 infection at cell and tissue level. Host conditions and comorbidities were identified as risk factors for severe and fatal disease courses, but the mechanisms of interaction between host and SARS-CoV-2 determining the grade of COVID- 19 severity, are still unknown. We provide a network analysis on protein–protein interactions (PPI) between viral and host proteins to better identify host biological responses, induced by both whole proteome of SARS-CoV-2 and specific viral proteins. A host-virus interactome was inferred on published PPI, using an explorative algorithm (Random Walk with Restart) tri…

Large-Scale Recombinant Production of the SARS-CoV-2 Proteome for High-Throughput and Structural Biology Applications

2021

The highly infectious disease COVID-19 caused by the Betacoronavirus SARS-CoV-2 poses a severe threat to humanity and demands the redirection of scientific efforts and criteria to organized research projects. The international COVID19-NMR consortium seeks to provide such new approaches by gathering scientific expertise worldwide. In particular, making available viral proteins and RNAs will pave the way to understanding the SARS-CoV-2 molecular components in detail. The research in COVID19-NMR and the resources provided through the consortium are fully disclosed to accelerate access and exploitation. NMR investigations of the viral molecular components are designated to provide the essential…

Intragenic deletions of IL1RAPL1: Report of two cases and review of the literature

2010

IL1RAPL1 (interleukin-1 receptor accessory protein-like 1) located at Xp21.3-22.1 has repeatedly been shown to be deleted in patients with a contiguous gene syndrome also affecting neighboring genes, in particular DMD (dystrophin), DAX-1 (NR0B1, nuclear receptor subfamily 0, group B, member 1), and GK (glycerol kinase). In contrast, intragenic deletions of IL1RAPL1 or other mutations or cytogenetic aberrations affecting IL1RAPL1 have only rarely been identified. Up to date, they have mostly been associated with nonspecific mental retardation (MRX). We report on two nonrelated patients with MR and additional dysmorphic features who both show intragenic deletions of IL1RAPL1, one of them bein…

Indication and technique for the reconstruction of nerve defects in head and neck.

1974

Summary Although the results of peripheral nerve repair have been greatly improved in the last years following the introduction of microsurgery and increased application of free autologous nerve transplants, the use of restorative neuroplasty in maxillofacial surgery has been limited. Prompted by the successful reports on modern neuroplasty, we have introduced the use of autologous nerve transplant to bridge lesions of various cranial nerves. Our experience is based on the treatment of traumatic and tumour-induced defects of the facial nerve, inferior alveolar nerve, accessory and lingual nerve. The anastomosis of nerve was accomplished exclusively under the surgical microscope and microsur…

Impact of Accessory Renal Artery Coverage on Renal Function during Endovascular Aortic Aneurysm Repair.

2021

Background Long-term outcomes of accessory renal artery (ARA) coverage after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) are unknown. We analyzed the impact of ARA coverage on renal function long-term. Methods This retrospective, monocentric study included patients treated by EVAR between 2008 and 2016. Patients with at least one ARA covered with EVAR (ARA group) were compared with patients with no covered ARA (control group). Renal function was determined by estimating the glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and graded according to chronic kidney disease (CKD) classification stages. Results A total of 184 patients were included (ARA group, n = 25; control group, n = 159). Renal risk factors were sim…

Le Origini della Mediazione nell'esperienza inglese.

2011

Diagnostic accuracy of cone-beam CT compared with panoramic images in predicting retromolar canal during extraction of impacted mandibular third mola…

2014

Objectives: The clinical significance of the existence of a retromolar canal and of its neurovascular content is not yet clear. The aim of the present study was to assess the visibility, diameter and course of the mandibular retromolarcanal (MRC) using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan -had been taken for pre-operative radiographic evaluation of impacted mandibular third molars- compared to panoramic radiographs. Study Design: Subjects eligible for study enrollment were those who underwent preoperative CBCT scan for the extraction of impactedmandibular third molars were determined to be extremely close to the mandibular canal on panoramic radiographs. Radiographs were screened for th…

NECK DISSECTIONS: MISCONCEPTIONS, MALPRACTICE AND COMMON CONTROVERSIES

2007

B a c k g ro u n d. Neck metastases are the single most important prognostic factor in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Wise approach to neck treatment is then mandatory to give a chanche for cure. Still, there are some issues about neck dissection that need to be clarified. M e t h o d s. Through a review of the literature and of everyday clinical observations, the following issues are discussed: Functional Neck Dissection, biopsies, nodal levels, Selective Neck Dissections, Spinal Accessory Nerve, neck dissection classification. R e s u l t s. Integration of historical, anatomical, clinical and surgical concepts and up-to-date knowledge can allow to understand how to behave in diver…
