Labor Productivity Growth: Disentangling Technology and Capital Accumulation

We adopt a counterfactual approach to decompose labor productivity growth into growth of Technological Productivity (TEP), growth of the capital-labor ratio and growth of Total Factor Productivity (TFP). We bring the decomposition to the data using international countrysectoral information spanning from the 1960s to the 2000s and a nonparametric generalized kernel method, which enables us to estimate the production function allowing for heterogeneity across all relevant dimensions: countries, sectors and time. Non-accumulation of critical points of the Poincaré time on hyperbolic polycycles

We call Poincare time the time associated to the Poincar6 (or first return) map of a vector field. In this paper we prove the non-accumulation of isolated critical points of the Poincare time T on hyperbolic polycycles of polynomial vector fields. The result is obtained by proving that the Poincare time of a hyperbolic polycycle either has an unbounded principal part or is an almost regular function. The result relies heavily on the proof of Il'yashenko's theorem on non-accumulation of limit cycles on hyperbolic polycycles.

Evolution in Action Rates of evolution in gene and genome sequences have been estimated, but these estimates are subject to error because many of the steps of evolution over the ages are not directly measurable or are hidden under subsequent changes. Ossowski et al. (p. 92 ) now provide a more accurate measurement of how often spontaneous mutations arise in a nuclear genome. Mutations arising over 30 generations were compared by sequencing DNA from individual Arabidopsis thaliana plants. UV- and deamination-induced mutagenesis appeared to bias the type of mutations found.

Among metal ions, manganese represents a new emergent factor in environmental contamination.
