Anti-inflammatory Effects of South American Tanacetum vulgare

1998

Abstract In recent years the role of phenolic compounds and sesquiterpene lactones, particularly parthenolide, in the anti-migraine and anti-inflammatory effects of Tanacetum parthenium (Asteraceae) has attracted much attention. However, the closely-related cosmopolitan species T. vulgare has remained outside the mainstream of research in this field. After treating the aerial parts of T. vulgare with dichloromethane and methanol, and applying conventional column and thin-layer chromatographic techniques, it was possible to isolate from the moderately lipophilic fractions the principles responsible for the anti-inflammatory activity of this plant against the mouse-ear oedema induced by 12-O-…

Effects of naturally occurring dihydroflavonols from Inula viscosa on inflammation and enzymes involved in the arachidonic acid metabolism

2007

Abstract The anti-inflammatory properties of three flavanones isolated from Inula viscosa , sakuranetin, 7- O -methylaromadendrin, and 3-acetyl-7- O -methylaromadendrin, have been tested both in vitro and in vivo. Acute inflammation in vivo was induced by means of topical application of 12- O -tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate (TPA) to mouse ears or by subcutaneous injection of phospholipase A 2 (PLA 2 ) into mouse paws. The test compounds were evaluated in vitro for their effect on both the metabolism of arachidonic acid and on the release and/or activity of enzymes involved in the inflammatory response such as elastase, myeloperoxidase (MPO), and protein kinase C (PKC). The most active comp…

Effectiveness of sodium acetate treatment on the mechanical properties and morphology of natural fiber-reinforced composites

2021

This paper aims to investigate the ability of an eco-friendly and cheap treatment based on sodium acetate solutions to improve the mechanical properties of flax fiber-reinforced composites. Flax fibers were treated for 5 days (i.e., 120 h) at 25 °C with mildly alkaline solutions at 5%, 10% and 20% weight content of the sodium salt. Quasi-static tensile and flexural tests, Charpy impact tests and dynamical mechanical thermal (DMTA) tests were carried out to evaluate the mechanical properties of the resulting composites. Fourier transform infrared analysis (FTIR) was used to evaluate the chemical modification on the fibers surface due to the proposed treatment, whereas scanning electron micro…

Flecainide acetate acetic acid solvates.

2011

Flecainide acetate forms acetic acid solvates with 0.5 and 2 acetic acid molecules. Powder X-ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis/thermogravimetric, infrared, and potentiometric titration were used to determine the composition of solvates. Flecainide acetate hemisolvate with acetic acid decomposes to form a new crystalline form of flecainide acetate. This form is less stable than the already known polymorphic form at all temperatures, and it is formed due to kinetic reasons. Both flecainide acetate nonsolvated and flecainide acetate hemisolvate forms crystallize in monoclinic crystals, but flecainide triacetate forms triclinic crystals. Solvate formation was not observed when flec…

Retention-pH profiles of acids and bases in hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography

2018

Abstract The high proportion of acetonitrile used in many HILIC mobile phases significantly changes the acid-base properties of pH buffers and analytes foreseen from available data in water. In this paper, the recommended stability pH range for chromatographic columns is examined with various acetonitrile/water mixtures, resulting in a significant broadening in the operational pH window with the content of organic solvent. Additionally, the challenge of buffer selection in HILIC is also addressed. Commonly used ammonium acetate shrinks its pH buffering range in acetonitrile-rich mobile phases due to variations in the dissociation constants of the buffer constituents (acetic acid and ammoniu…

Production of enniatins A, A1, B, B1, B4, J1 by Fusarium tricinctum in solid corn culture: structural analysis and effects on mitochondrial respirati…

2013

Enniatins (ENs) are secondary fungal metabolites with hexadepsipeptidic chemical structure and they possess a number of potent biological activities that can contaminate several kind of food and foodstuffs increasing the exposure risk for consumers. ENs are produced by several Fusariun strains including Fusarium subglutinans, Fusarium proliferatum and Fusarium tricinctum. Production of a mixture of ENs was performed by culturing F. tricinctum ITEM 9496 on white corn as substrate. The solid culture components were dried and subsequently extracted with water/methanol (50/50 v/v, 0.5% NaCl), homogenised, filtered, extracted by ethyl acetate and analysed by liquid chromatography with diode arra…

Gelchromatographie, 12. Gelchromatographisches Verhalten von Polyvinylalkoholgelen

1975

Hydrolysis of copolymers from vinyl acetate and 1,4-bis(vinyloxy)butane results in crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol) gels. Their applicability as hydrophilic stationary phase in gel permeation chromatography is investigated using dextranes, poly(ethylen…

Photodegradation of Toluene, m-Xylene, and n-Butyl Acetate and Their Mixtures over TiO2 Catalyst on Glass Fibers

2012

The abatement of typical paint solvent compounds as individuals and in mixtures was carried out in an annular TiO2 supported reactor, for concentrations up to 900 mg C m–3. Two different fiberglass supports were compared, and the catalyst supported over a fiber mat showed better performance, with a lower pressure drop (>35% of reduction) and a slightly higher removal efficiency (about 2%) than that supported over glass wool. For every target compound in the whole range of relative humidity studied (4–75%), the photocatalytic activity increased with the air water content. The removal of the compounds in the binary and ternary mixtures was depressed, even >90% for toluene, compared with indiv…

Overexpression of bone morphogenetic protein-6 (BMP-6) in murine epidermis suppresses skin tumor formation by induction of apoptosis and downregulati…

2001

Bone morphogenetic protein-6 (BMP-6) is a member of the transforming growth factor-beta superfamily. In murine skin, BMP-6 is highly expressed in postmitotic keratinocytes from day 15.5 p.c. till day 6 p.p. Expression in adult skin remains at very low levels, but pathological conditions such as wounding induce the expression of BMP-6. We demonstrate that tumor promotion by TPA (12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate) also induces expression of BMP-6 in suprabasal keratinocytes. This induction is due to post-transcriptional regulation since the level of BMP-6 mRNA remained unchanged. We performed two-stage skin carcinogenesis experiments with transgenic mice epidermally overexpressing BMP-6. T…

Chemical skin carcinogenesis is prevented in mice by the induced expression of a TGF-β related transgene

1995

Skin papillomas and squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) are induced in mice by tumor initiation with a carcinogen followed by tumor promotion with the phorbol ester 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA). These usually arise from preneoplastic lesions characterized by epidermal proliferation and hyperplasia, dermal edema, and inflammation. To evaluate the role of polypeptide growth factors in chemically induced skin carcinogenesis, we used transgenic mice carrying the cDNA for a TGF-β related molecule, bone morphogenetic protein-4 (BMP-4), under the control of the regulatory elements of the cytokeratin IV* gene in a skin carcinogenesis protocol. Control non-transgenic littermates and BMP-4 …
