(common hazel, Betulaceae), a plant with a wide distribution in Europe, have been used in folk medicine for various diseases, but phytochemical exploration of C. avellana is still incomplete. Abstract We have studied, simulated and evaluated economically two separation alternatives of a mixture made up of 52 mole% of isobutyl alcohol and 48 mole% of isobutyl acetate by means of a practical case of a plant to treat 12,000 Tm/year of the original mixture. Abstract The characteristic features of an acetic acid esters hydrolyzing enzyme (acetylesterase, EC 3.1.1.16) are described. The pH- and temperature optimum were 7.0 and 40 °C respectively. The stability of the enzyme regarding different pH- and temperature conditions was investigated. The molecular weight of the acetylesterase could be determined to 160000. A small acetic ester hydrolyzing activity was found too with a molecular weight of about 25000. The activity was not inhibited by addition of di-isopropylphosphorofluoridate (DFP) or physostigmine. Immobilization of ortho-metalated dirhodium(II) compounds has been achieved by a carboxylate interchange reaction between (M)-Rh2(l-protos)2[(p-XC6H3)P(p-XC6H4)2]2 diastereoisomers and carboxyethylpolystyrene polymer (PS-C6H4(CH2)2CO2H). The immobilized chiral catalysts have been tested in the standard reaction of asymmetric cyclopropanation of styrene with ethyl diazoacetate, giving higher yields than homogeneous chiral trifluoroacetate derivatives, but their diastereo- and enantioselectivities were lower. Abstract The gas chromatographic retention behaviour of the butanoyl and 2-, 3- and 4-chlorobutanoyl esters of C 3 —C 5 saturated aliphatic branched-chain and unsaturated C 3 —C 6 alcohols on SE-30 and OV-351 glass capillary columns operated iso-thermally at several temperatures is reported. Retention index increments at 80, 120 and 160°C show the effects of chain branching and the olefinic and acetylenic unsaturation in the alkyl chain and the effect of the position of the chlorine substituent in the acyl chain. The results are compared with the behaviour of the corresponding n -alkyl esters and the chlorinated propanoyl esters.
The impact of Pleurotus ostreatus on organic matter transformation processes.

This study showed the effect of Pleurotus ostreatus on the external organic matter (OM) transformation processes. The kinetics of these changes were determined. The experiment was conducted as 42-day pot experiment done in four combinations (with four replications). The four combinations of different substrates were: (1) organic, (2) composted hay, (3) organic soil + composted hay, (4) organic soil + composted hay + lead. The study results showed that P. ostreatus had the ability to transform external OM as well as metal–organic complexes. Tomato peel drying and carotenoids stability of the extracts

Summary Tomato peels were firstly dried by different methods (hot air, freeze-drying, and fluidized bed drying) to evaluate the recovery of lycopene, β-carotene and DPPH radical scavenging activity. Comparison of the results showed that hot air drying at 50 °C was a suitable method and alternative to freeze-drying to preserve carotenoids compounds and antioxidant activity in tomato peels. Then, ethanol/ethyl acetate (1:1) extracts from tomato peel, previously dried at 50 °C by hot air, were submitted to heat (100 °C) and light treatment (1000 lumen) to evaluate their stability as natural food dyes. Abstract The aim of this study was to determine experimentally the vapour pressures of aroma compounds at various temperatures, especially at negative ones. The aroma compounds were: acetone, 2-butanone, 2-hexanone, 2-octanone, ethyl acetate, ethyl butanoate, ethyl hexanoate, n-hexanal, n-hexanol and γ-hexalactone. The technique used was a static device where vapour pressure was measured at equilibrium. The temperatures of analysis varied from −40 to 25 °C. Functionalized gold nanoparticles have been prepared in an organic solvent by a two-phase reduction method in ethyl acetate and water using bis(6-hydroxyhexyl) disulfide bis(2-bromoisobutyl) ester, bis(6-acetyloxyhexyl) disulfide, and bis(5-carboxypentyl) disulfide bis(pentafluorophenyl) ester as stabilizing ligands. This procedure features the advantages that no phase transfer agent was necessary during the preparation of the gold nanoparticles and that the reducing conditions were mild enough to utilize functional disulfide ligands.
