Measuring the Task Induced Oscillatory Brain Activity Using Tensor Decomposition

The characterization of dynamic electrophysiological brain activity, which form and dissolve in order to support ongoing cognitive function, is one of the most important goals in neuroscience. Here, we introduce a method with tensor decomposition for measuring the task-induced oscillations in the human brain using electroencephalography (EEG). The time frequency representation of source-reconstructed singletrail EEG data constructed a third-order tensor with three factors of time ∗ trails, frequency and source points. Reducing sitting time by means of sit–stand workstations is an emerging trend, but further evidence is needed regarding their health benefits. This cross-sectional study compared work time muscle activity patterns and spinal shrinkage between office workers (aged 24–62, 58.3% female) who used either a sit–stand workstation (Sit–Stand group, n = 10) or a traditional sit workstation (Sit group, n = 14) for at least the past three months. A follow-up data on electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood pressure (BP) changes in adolescent athletes are scarce. We compared ECG and BP between adolescent athletes and non-athletes in a 4-year follow-up. A total of 154 youth sports clubs (SC) in Finland and 100 secondary schools for comparison data participated in this observational follow-up study. Those who maintained or adopted SC participation are referred to as “Always athletes” (n=137), those who never participated in SC as “Never athletes” (n=108) and those who dropped out of SC during the follow-up as “Changers” (n=116).
