EFFECT OF LOW-FREQUENCY NOISE ON ADIABATIC PASSAGE IN A SUPERCONDUCTING NANOCIRCUIT

2011

Recent experiments have demonstrated coherent phenomena in three-level systems based on superconducting nanocircuits. This opens the possibility to detect Stimulated Raman Adiabatic Passage (STIRAP) in artificial atoms. Low-fequency noise (often 1/f) is one of the main sources of decoherence in these systems, and we study its effect on the transfer efficiency. We propose a way to analyze low frequency fluctuations in terms of fictitious correlated fluctuations of external parameters. We discuss a specific implementation, namely the Quantronium setup of a Cooper-pair box, showing that optimizing the trade-off between efficient coupling and protection against noise may allow us to observe co…

Detuning effects in STIRAP processes in the presence of quantum noise

2011

The Stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) in three-state systems in the presence of quantum noise is considered. A comparison is made between different models, one based on a phenomenological introduction of decays, one traceable back to a microscopic description of the system-environment interaction. Effects related, to off-resonance in the coupling between the involved states are considered.

INFLUENCE OF UNEQUAL OSCILLATOR STRENGTHS ON STIMULATED RAMAN ADIABATIC PASSAGE THROUGH BRIGHT STATE

2012

In the present work an analytical and numerical analysis of the b -STIRAP process in a medium with unequal oscillator strengths is performed. It is shown that the length of population transfer can be considerably increased by an appropriate choice of the dipole transitions.

Implementation of single-qubit quantum gates by adiabatic passage and static laser phases

2006

International audience; We propose and analyse experimentally feasible implementations of single-qubit quantum gates based on stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) between magnetic sublevels in atoms coupled by elliptically polarized pulsed laser fields, in part based on a proposal by Kis and Renzoni [Z. Kis, F. Renzoni, Phys. Rev. A 65 (2002) 032318]. These techniques require only the control of the relative phase of the driving fields but do not involve any dynamical or geometric phases, which makes it independent of the other interaction details: detuning, pulse shapes, pulse areas and pulse durations. The suggested techniques are immune to spontaneous emission since the qubit mani…

Ultrafast stimulated Raman parallel adiabatic passage by shaped pulses

2009

We present a general and versatile technique of population transfer based on {\it parallel adiabatic passage} by femtosecond shaped pulses. Their amplitude and phase are specifically designed to optimize the adiabatic passage corresponding to parallel eigenvalues at all times. We show that this technique allows the robust adiabatic population transfer in a Raman system with the total pulse area as low as 3 $\pi$, corresponding to a fluence of one order of magnitude below the conventional stimulated Raman adiabatic passage process. This process of short duration, typically pico- and subpicosecond, is easily implementable with the modern pulse shaper technology and opens the possibility of ul…

Influence of Unequal Oscillator Strenghts on Stimulated Raman Adiabatic Passage through Bright State

2011

The problem of the coherent control of atomic states, preparation of atoms in a stable superposition state, and atomic population transfer has attracted much attention in the last decade. One of the main motivations is associated with the rapid development of the field of quantum computing. One of the key problems of quantum information processing is the construction of given coherent superposition atomic states in a macroscopic volume. Stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) [1] is considered to be the most common method for atomic population transfer in quantum systems. Being analyzed in detail on various quantum systems from both theoretical and experimental points of view, this meth…

Quantum Information by Adiabatic Passage : Quantum Gates and Decoherence

2007

The first part of this thesis is about adiabatic quantum processes designed for the implementation of quantum logic gates, the elementary components of quantumcomputers, by the interaction of pulsed laser fields with atoms. The adiabaticmethods allow robust processes, i.e. which are not sensitive to the fluctuationsof experimental parameters. The processes described in this thesis only requireaccurate control of the polarisations and the relative static phases of thelaser fields. These processes allow the implementation of a universal set ofquantum gates, which make possible the implementation of all the other quantumgates by combinations. The second part of this thesis concerns the effects …
