The Scales of Psychological Well-Being – a validation, usability and test–retest study among community-dwelling older people in Finland

Objectives: To validate the Finnish version of the 42-item Scales of Psychological Well-Being among community-dwelling older people. The study also examined the test–retest reliability and usability, i.e. user experience, of the scales in this age group. Method: The 42-item version of the SPWB was administered as part of a face-to-face interview among 968 men and women aged 75, 80 or 85 years. Chronic pain affects the whole person--a phenomenological study.

The aim of this qualitative study was to explore participants' perspectives on the effects of chronic pain on the psychophysical unity.Thirty-four chronic pain outpatients were interviewed, and the transcribed interviews were analysed with Giorgi's four-phase phenomenological method. The mean age of the participants was 48 years, and 19 of them were women. For 21 of the participants, the pain duration was more than 5 years, and most had degenerative spinal pain.The results of this whole research project indicated that the phenomenon chronic pain consisted of four essential themes: Pain affects the whole person, invisibility, negativity, and dominance of pain. OBJECTIVES Neuroticism predicts falls in older people. In addition, concern about falling and depressive symptoms are associated with fall risk. This study examined whether concern about falling and depressive symptoms mediate the association between neuroticism and falls. METHOD Cross-sectional data on 314 community-dwelling people aged 70–85 years were utilized. Neuroticism was assessed with a short modified form of the Eysenck Personality Inventory. Indoor and outdoor falls during the past year were self-reported. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää kolmevuotiaiden lasten fyysisen aktiivisuuden määrä ja intensiteetti sekä selvittää täyttyvätkö alle kouluikäisten Varhaiskasvatuksen liikunnan suositukset (2005) kahden tunnin reippaasta päivittäisestä liikunnasta tutkimukseen osallistuvilla lapsilla. Tutkimuksessa vertailtiin myös poikien ja tyttöjen sekä arki- ja viikonlopun päivien välisiä eroja. Aineisto kerättiin 14 vapaaehtoisesta päiväkodista elokuusta lokakuuhun 2010. Arterial hypertension is a significant cause of end-stage renal failure; effective treatment of hypertensive patients reduces the rate of progression of this disorder. ss-Blockers, particularly nonselective agents, are associated with deterioration of renal function in patients with chronic renal failure. The latin “elegiac comedy” and the latin “tragedy” of XIIth and XIIIth centuries display a big and vari-ous richness of topics, themes, subjects and literary features: use of the elegiac couplets, ovidian imita-tion, meaning of love, incidence of dialogic and narrative sections, and so on. One of these topics is represented by the “scenes of trial by jury” which happen in some of the medieval comedies and trag-edies. This paper, after an introduction to the literary kind, is dedicated to the analysis of the “scenes of trial by jury” which we can find in two texts, a tragedy (Bernardus Silvestris’ Mathematicus) and a comedy (Matthew of Vendôme’s Milo).
