PET Imaging of the Impact of Extracellular pH and MAP Kinases on the p-Glycoprotein (Pgp) Activity

The functional activity of p-glycoprotein (Pgp) can be increased in vitro by an extracellular acidosis via activation of MAP kinases (p38, ERK1/2). In order to study these effects in vivo a new (68)Ga-labeled PET tracer was developed which serves as a substrate of the Pgp and therefore indirectly mirrors the Pgp activity. For in vivo studies, experimental tumors were imaged under acidic conditions (inspiratory hypoxia, injection of lactic acid) and during inhibition of MAP kinases in a μ-PET system. Background: Intermuscular synchronization is one of the fundamental aspects of maintaining a stable posture and is of great importance in the aging process. This study aimed to assess muscle synchronization and postural stabilizer asymmetry during quiet standing and the limits of stability using wavelet analysis. Intermuscular synchrony and antagonistic sEMG-sEMG (surface electromyography) coherence asymmetry were evaluated in the tibialis anterior and soleus muscles. Monikielisyys on nykyisin arkipäivää monissa kouluissa. Myös Suomen kouluissa erikielisten oppilaiden määrä on kasvanut ja sen odotetaan yhä kasvavan tulevaisuudessa. Tässä artikkelissa tarkastelemme, miten koulut voivat positiivisesti huomioida monikielisyyttä arjessaan. Käytämme esimerkkinä Utrechtin kansainvälistä koulua Alankomaissa ja kuvaamme, miten oppilaiden monipuoliset kielirepertuaarit nähdään siellä voimavarana ja miten niitä hyödynnetään tarkoituksenmukaisesti opetuksessa. This thesis investigated whether dietary acid load has either short-term (4 to 7 days) or prolonged (12 weeks) effects on acid-base status at rest and during submaximal and maximal aerobic exercise; whether the effects of dietary acid load on acid-base status differ between adolescents, young adults and the elderly, and between men and women; and whether the changes in acid-base balance have a further effect on aerobic exercise performance. This article examines L1 literacy practices and use of L1 from the perspective of students and teachers with migrant background. We focus particularly on the meaning making of literacy practices and use of L1 in both in-school and out-of-school contexts. The data consist of 13 teacher interviews and 10 student interviews and applied tasks completed by the students studying in a comprehensive school. Spectral cameras are traditionally used in remote sensing of microalgae, but increasingly also in laboratory-scale applications, to study and monitor algae biomass in cultures. Practical and cost-efficient protocols for collecting and analyzing hyperspectral data are currently needed. The purpose of this study was to test a commercial, easy-to-use hyperspectral camera to monitor the growth of different algae strains in liquid samples.
