Borderline resectable pancreatic cancer. Challenges and controversies.
2018
Abstract Pancreatic cancer is a dismal disease with an increasing incidence. Despite the majority of patients are not candidates for curative surgery, a subgroup of patients classified as borderline resectable pancreatic cancer can be selected in whom a sequential strategy of neoadjuvant therapy followed by surgery can provide better outcomes. Multidisciplinary approach and surgical pancreatic expertise are essential for successfully treating these patients. However, the lack of consensual definitions and therapies make the results of studies very difficult to interpret and hard to be implemented in some settings. In this article, we review the challenges of borderline resectable pancreatic…
Diffusionsgewichtetes MRT bei vertebrobasilren Ischmien
2004
The aim of this study was to evaluate the applicability, sensitivity, and predictive power of diffusion-weighted MR imaging (DWI) in the diagnosis of vertebrobasilar infarction. From 1997 to 2002, we prospectively recruited 268 patients with acute signs and symptoms suspective of vertebrobasilar ischemia. The patients underwent biplanar EPI-T2 and EPI DWI within 24 h after onset of symptoms and high-resolution MRI as a control within 7 days. One hundred twenty-one patients had additional CT scanning. The DWI revealed acute vertebrobasilar infarction in 71.0%. The mean time exposure of DWI was 8 min and thus no more than that of CT imaging. It showed significantly more acute lesions than CT …

Koronare Bypassdiagnostik mit CT und MRT - eine Bestandsaufnahme
2004
The limited lifetime and the correlation between graft occlusion and recurring symptoms underline the need for repeated imaging of coronary artery bypass grafts. CT and MRI allow for non-invasive imaging of coronary bypasses with high accuracies concerning the patency of these vessels. Multidetector CT seems to be the CT technique of choice, especially after the introduction of 16 slice CT scanners for morphologic assessment of coronary artery bypass grafts. Compared with MRI, CT is a robust technique for assessment of cardiac anastomoses, native coronary arteries, and for the detection of graft stenoses. MRI, however, is able to deliver functional information about the grafts and the recip…
TRANS-FUSIMO - clinical translation of patient specific planning and conduction of FUS treatment in moving organs
2015
The movement of the target challenges the application of high intensive focused ultrasound (HiFU/MRgFUS) for the treatment of malignancies in moving abdominal organs such as liver and kidney. Moreover, the anatomical location of the lesion is often behind the rib cage. The physiology of the organs, the dynamic and complex blood perfusion impairs the energy disposition in the tissue due to the heat transfer within the organ. To explore the full potential of extracorporeal FUS to safely and precisely destroy tissue in the depth of a moving organ requires sophisticated software and advanced hardware. In the EU project FUSIMO (http://www.fusimo.eu) a software demonstrator for the patient specif…

An Unusual Oral Swelling
2014
A 7-year-old female was admitted for worsening swelling under her tongue associated with fever and difficulty swallowing. She had sustained head and neck bicycle handlebar trauma 2 weeks before the admission. She was noted to have a cystic and ballotable mass appearing in the floor of mouth. The lesion was evaluated by an otorhinolaryngologist who aspirated 15 mL of mucoid- appearing fluid, which led to collapse of the floor of mouth swelling and alleviation of dysphagia. The patient was placed on a clear liquid diet, which was advanced to a regular diet over 3 days and completed a 10-day course of clindamycin. Neck magnetic resonance imaging revealed persistence of a single cystic mass of …
Normalwerterstellung von Blutströmungsgeschwindigkeiten an der Arteria mesenterica superior bei Früh- und Reifgeborenen mit der Duplexsonographie
1994
In a prospective study blood flow velocity measurements were performed in 110 "healthy" newborn with duplex Doppler sonography in the superior mesenteric artery to obtain standard values. In 49 of these neonates 15, 30, and 45 minutes following feeding examinations were performed. Peak systolic flow velocity, end systolic flow velocity, time average flow velocity and time average maximum flow velocity were determined, the resistance and Pourcelot index as well as the volume blood flow were calculated. The children's gestational age was 27-42 weeks, the postnatal age was 2-68 days and the body weight was 920-4190 g. All measured blood flow velocities showed a synchronous relation to feeding …
Rechte und Pflichten des Radiologen bei der Indikationsstellung und Anwendung radiologischer Verfahren
2008
A radiological examination or an interventional procedure is a medical invasion of the patient's freedom and does not constitute an offense of causing bodily harm there is a medical indication, when the patient has given consent after being adequately informed, and the intervention is carried out in accord with the valid rules of medical conduct. During the assessment of possible contraindications, the radiologist must also evaluate the indicationy, i.e., he or she must decide if the medical question can be answered by the requested radiological examination. The indication must be viewed the more critically the greater the risk for a complication is. A radiological diagnosis with the use of…
