Meiofauna of the profundal zone of the northern part of Lake Ladoga as an indicator of pollution

1996

Benthic meiofauna was sampled at 19 stations, mainly in the northern part of Lake Ladoga, from depths between 13 and 199 m and from types of environment ranging from sheltered areas near pollution sources to less polluted open areas. About 80 taxa were identified, of these 70 to the species level. The greatest numbers of species were oligochaetes (24 species) and harpacticoids (8 species). Certain quantitative ratios of meiofauna were shown to be correlated with environmental data. The species of the oligochaete families Lumbriculidae and Aeolosomatidae and the harpacticoids as a collective group, excluding Canthocamptus staphylinus, were most clearly confined to the less eutrophied environ…

Peracarid Crustacea Inhabiting Aegagropylae of the Red Alga Rytiphloea Tinctoria (Clemente) C. Ag. in the Stagnone Sound, Western Sicily, Italy

1993

The peracarid Crustacea belonging to Cumacea, Tanaidacca, Isopoda and Amphipoda, inhabiting aegagropylae of Rytiphloea tinctoria were studied throughout a year in the Stagnone Sound (western Sicily, Italy). The dominant groups, tanaids (61.7%) and amphipods (32.8%), were represented by 6 and 28 species, and showed complementary trends during the 12 months, reaching their maximum of abundance in spring and autumn, respectively. Tanaids were mainly represented by Apseudes intermedius Hansen, 1895 and Parapseudes latifrons (Grube, 1864), and amphipods by Elasmopus pocillimanus (Bate, 1862), Leptocheirus guttatus (Grube, 1864), Lysianassa longicornis Lucas, 1849 and Maera inaequipes (A. Costa, …

Synapseudes Shiinoi Riggio, 1973, a Species of Tanaidacea Found in the Mediterranean

1977

During the bionomic survey carried out in the course of 1968 on the biogenic platform bordering the rocky shore of Mount Pellegrino in the Bay of Palermo (northwestern Sicily) some individuals of a species of Synapseudes Miller (1940) were found in samples of Tanaidacea taken during the winter at station no. 1. This find is of considerable interest as no Synapseudes species had hitherto been described from the Mediterranean, although the presence of this genus on the coast of southern France has been mentioned by Bellan-Santini (1962, 1969). Careful examination of the specimens revealed that they belonged to a new species, which was named after Prof. Sueo M. Shiino in gratitude for his kind…

Exploring Finnish Guidance Counselors’ Conceptions of Career Management Skills

2020

This article reports the findings from a phenomenographic investigation into guidance counselors’ conceptions of career management skills (CMS). The results show that CMS was conceived as (a) information-based knowledge, (b) personal skills development, (c) interpersonal skills development, and (d) autonomous application of skills. The differences appeared along six dimensions of variation that included awareness of CMS, emphasis, promotion of CMS, teaching practice, assessment, and attitude. The findings give us a more profound understanding of critical aspects that may have an important role in the development of individual’s CMS.

A Robust and Simple Measure for Quality-Guided 2D Phase Unwrapping Algorithms

2016

Quality-based 2D phase unwrapping algorithms provide one of the best tradeoffs between speed and quality of results. Their robustness depends on a quality map, which is used to build a path that visits the most reliable pixels first. Unwrapping then proceeds along this path, delaying unwrapping of noisy and inconsistent areas until the end, so that the unwrapping errors remain local. We propose a novel quality measure that is consistent, technically sound, effective, fast to compute, and immune to the presence of a carrier signal. The new measure combines the benefits of both the quality-guided and the residue-based phase unwrapping approaches. The quality map is justified from the two diff…

Resistance to bond degradation between dual-cure resin cements and pre-treated sintered CAD-CAM dental ceramics

2012

Objective: To evaluate the bond stability of resin cements when luted to glass-reinforced alumina and zirconia CAD/CAM dental ceramics. Study design: Eighteen glass-infiltrated alumina and eighteen densely sintered zirconia blocks were randomly conditioned as follows: Group 1: No treatment; Group 2: Sandblasting (125 µm Al2O3-particles); and Group 3: Silica-coating (50 µm silica-modified Al2O3-particles). Composite samples were randomly bonded to the pre-treated ceramic surfaces using different resin cements: Subgroup 1: Clearfil Esthetic Cement (CEC); Subgroup 2: RelyX Unicem (RXU); and Subgroup 3: Calibra (CAL). After 24 h, bonded specimens were cut into 1 ± 0.1 mm2 sticks. One-half of th…

Sulle tracce di un’antica prassi: la c.d. cessione della moglie

2011

This essay analyzes the evidence which allows us to glimpse the traces of an archaic practice of wife ceding and its development to the late Republican age. The sources which recount the episode of the ceding of Marcia and Livia Drusilla and a passage of the so-called Laudatio Turiae, with special reference to lines 35-36 and the proposed integration of Mommsen liberi [communes] are analyzed. In relation to such integration the Author analyzes Aug. De Bono Coniugali 15. 17 which she ascribes to the ancient biblical practices, criticizing the attribution of the expression “liberi communes” to the Roman law. Finally the Author suggests a hypothesis on the value of the expression koinonìa paid…
