Formal ontology and CAD integration with macro parametric approach

2017

ABSTRACTThis paper discusses an ontological integration framework in the context of mereotopological formal ontology and CAD systems. Based on a comprehensive literature review of current design knowledge management and formal ontology research works, the authors propose the integration framework that can incorporate design knowledge with CAD systems. The primary role of mereotopology in this research work is the formal representation of design knowledge for the 3D solid assembly models. Most of the existing research works about design ontology present an abstract form and often require significant additional efforts to be integrated into CAD systems. Thus, this work introduces a formal ont…

Collaborative engineering decision-making for building information channels and improving Web visibility of product manufacturers

2018

Abstract Product manufacturers have spent the last years improving productivity and process efficiency in order to face increasingly competitive markets. Today, the visibility of technological innovations has become essential to achieve the targeted market. It is now very difficult for a product manufacturer to reach customers without owning a website that is visible on search engine results pages. The goal of this paper is to build information channels between a company and its customers through improving both a company’s content of information on the Web and its website rank on the Internet through search engine results pages. Company information and knowledge are distributed through mult…

Vision guided robotic inspection for parts in manufacturing and remanufacturing industry

2020

AbstractEnvironmental and commercial drivers are leading to a circular economy, where systems and components are routinely recycled or remanufactured. Unlike traditional manufacturing, where components typically have a high degree of tolerance, components in the remanufacturing process may have seen decades of wear, resulting in a wider variation of geometries. This makes it difficult to translate existing automation techniques to perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) for such components autonomously. The challenge of performing automated inspections, with off-line tool-paths developed from Computer Aided Design (CAD) models, typically arises from the fact that those paths do not have the r…

Parametric Hull Design with Rational Bézier Curves

2021

AbstractIn this paper, a tool able to support the sailing yacht designer during the early stage of the design process has been developed. Quadratic and cubic Rational Bézier curves have been selected to describe the main curves defining the hull of a sailing yacht. The adopted approach is based upon the definition of a set of parameters, say the length of water line, the beam of the waterline, canoe body draft and some dimensionless coefficients according to the traditional way of the yacht designer. Some geometrical constraints imposed on the curves (e.g. continuity, endpoint angles) have been conceived aimed to avoid unreasonable shapes. These curves can be imported in any commercial CAD …

Advances on mechanics, design engineering and manufacturing

2018

The theme of the present editorial is dedicated to the“Advances on Mechanics, Design Engineering and Manufac-turing” that emerge in different engineering and architecturalfields. The theme has been chosen as leitmotiv of a series ofevents that have been organized by three societies operatingin Italy, Spain and France, respectively: ADM (Associ-azione nazionale Disegno e Metodi dell’ingegneria indus-triale), INGEGRAF (Asociación Española de IngenieríaGráfica and AIP-PRIMECA (Ateliers Inter-établissementsde Productique—Pôles de Resources Informatiques pour laMECAnique). Since 2014, a series of JCM conferences havebeen organized. JCM is the acronym of “Joint Conference onMechanics, Design Engin…

Intelligent agents for feature modelling in computer aided design

2017

Abstract CAD modelling can be referred to as the process of generating an integrated multiple view model as a representation of multiple views of engineering design. In many situations, a change in the model of one view may conflict with the models of other views. In such situations, the model of some views needs to be adapted in order to make all models consistent. Thus, CAD models should be capable of adapting themselves to new situations. Recently, agent based technologies have been considered in order to increase both knowledge level and intelligence of real and virtual objects. The contribution of this paper consists in introducing the intelligent agents in intelligent CAD modelling. T…

Global sensitivity analysis in welding simulations -- what are the material data you really need ?

2011

In this paper, the sensitivity analysis methodology is applied to numerical welding simulation in order to rank the importance of input variables on the outputs of the code like distorsions or residual stresses. The numerical welding simulation uses the finite element method, with a thermal computation followed by a mechanical one. Classically, a local sensitivity analysis is performed, hence the validity of the results is limited to the neighbourhood of a nominal point, and cross effects cannot be detected. This study implements a global sensitivity analysis which allows to screen the whole material space of the steel family mechanical properties. A set of inputs of the mechanical model-ma…

El arte de la platería en la Concatedral de San Nicolás de Alicante

2020

The Co-cathedral of San Nicolás de Alicante still preserves an important treasure of pieces of silverware, ranging from the 17th to the 20th centuries, although the greatest development was known during the 18th century, with sumptuous commissions to the most prominent silversmiths both locally as at regional and national level. In this way, it can be said that the Alicante trousseau is a good example of a temple that, once built, focuses its efforts on the collection of silverware objects that enhance the cult and its ceremonies.

Dying with or because of invasive fungal infection? The role of immunity exhaustion on patient outcome

2016

De Rosa et al. considered clinical scores, biomarkers and their combination as useful aids for an early antifungal treatment and advocated the adoption of de-escalation therapy in an antifungal stewardship approach as a possible key for a better management of these patients. Authors considered the high burden of invasive fungal infections in terms of patient outcomes and costs and focused on current strategies for their optimization.
