Tarkastelemme toisen maailmansodan (1939– 1945) vaikutuksia Suomen poronhoitoon ja arvioimme poronhoidon merkitystä maallemme sekä kriisien että jälleenrakennuksen aikana. Tutkimuksemme perustuu vuosina 1931–1967 ilmestyneiden Poromies-lehtien artikkeleihin ja poronhoitoyhdistysten toimintakertomuksiin. Sodissa menetettiin tärkeitä poronhoitoalueita Neuvostoliitolle Kuusamon ja Sallan itäosista sekä Petsamo kokonaisuudessaan. Poroja teurastettiin ruuaksi, hävitettiin ja niitä katosi paimennuksen puuttuessa. Poronhoitovuosina 1939–1945 teurastettiin kansalaisten ravinnoksi noin 220 000 poroa, jolloin säästettiin pakkoteurastukselta yli 88 000 lehmää. Porot toimivat sota-aikana muonareservin…

How Do Proverbs Get Their Meanings? The Model of Interpretation Based on a Metaphor Theory.

The constellation of proverbs is quite permanent. Only one third of proverbs are supposed to change in about one hundred years (Kuusi 1994: 117−118). This means that the proverbs used in the 21st century are much the same as the proverbs in the beginning of the 20th century and quite the same as in 1850’s. In this article I focus on the proverb as a significant unit. Even if the proverbs are unchangeable, their meanings are not. The proverbial expressions can be looked from at least four stand points: (1) What is the proverb decoded to mean? (2) What do the words mean? (3) What does the speaker mean? This paper purports to shed light on primary school teachers’ initial training in the field of creative writing, rewriting and rough draft practices. It analyses a corpus of various pieces of writing by school children and trainee teachers, collected through the implementation of a teaching unit using authors’ and children’s literature writers’ drafts and working documents with children aged 8-11 (CE2-CM) on the one hand, and with trainee teachers on the other. As part of a seminar on introduction to research, these trainee teachers thus questioned their own writing practices, their conception of rewriting and their teaching practices

It is an independent risk factor for subsequent mortality, institutionalization, multimorbidity, falls, incontinence, and immobility.
