The effect of β‐methylation on the conformation of α, β‐dehydrophenylalanine: a DFT study
2009
Dehydroamino acids are non‐coded amino acids that offer unique conformational properties. Dehydrophenylalanine (ΔPhe) is most commonly used to modify bioactive peptides to constrain the topography of the phenyl ring in the side chain, which commonly serves as a pharmacophore. The Ramachandran maps (in the gas phase and in CHCl3 mimicking environments) of ΔPhe analogues with methyl groups at the β position of the side chain as well as at the C‐terminal amide were calculated using the B3LYP/6‐31 + G** method. Unexpectedly, β‐methylation alone results in an increase of conformational freedom of the affected ΔPhe residue. However, further modification by introducing an additional methyl group a…
Molybdenum(VI) complexes with a chiral L-alanine bisphenol [O,N,O,O’] ligand : Synthesis, structure, spectroscopic properties and catalytic activity
2023
Dioxidomolybdenum(VI) compound [MoO2Cl2(dmso)2] reacts with a chiral tetradentate O3N-type L-alanine bisphenol ligand precursor (Et3NH)H2Lala to form an oxidochloridomolybdenum(VI) complex [MoOCl(Lala)] (1) as two separable geometric isomers with phenolate groups in cis or trans positions. The single crystal X-ray and NMR analyses of cis- and trans-1 reveal that the complexes are formed of monomeric molecules, in which the ligand has a tetradentate coordination through three oxygen donors and one nitrogen donor. The reaction of Na2MoO4·2H2O with the same ligand precursor in an acidic methanol solution leads to the formation of an anionic dioxido complex (Et3NH)[MoO2(Lala)] (2) with a trans …

Probing the self-assembly and anti-glioblastoma efficacy of a cinnamoyl-capped dipeptide hydrogelator
2022
Herein, we introduce the first diphenylalanine dipeptide hydrogelator capped with the cinnamoyl functional group (Cin-L-F-L-F). We evaluate the effects of the cinnamoyl moiety on molecular self-assembly events and resultant physical properties of the hydrogel formed. In addition, we report our preliminary results of this dipeptide's cytotoxicity against glioblastoma (GBM) cancer cells. peerReviewed
The shell matrix of the freshwater mussel Unio pictorum (Paleoheterodonta, Unionoida). Involvement of acidic polysaccharides from glycoproteins in na…
2007
13 pages; International audience; Among molluscs, the shell biomineralization process is controlled by a set of extracellular macromolecular components secreted by the calcifying mantle. In spite of several studies, these components are mainly known in bivalves from only few members of pteriomorph groups. In the present case, we investigated the biochemical properties of the aragonitic shell of the freshwater bivalve Unio pictorum (Paleoheterodonta, Unionoida). Analysis of the amino acid composition reveals a high amount of glycine, aspartate and alanine in the acid-soluble extract, whereas the acid-insoluble one is rich in alanine and glycine. Monosaccharidic analysis indicates that the in…
The Myristoylated Alanine-Rich C-Kinase Substrate (MARCKS) is Sequentially Phosphorylated by Conventional, Novel and Atypical Isotypes of Protein Kin…
1995
The myristoylated alanine-rich C-kinase substrate (MARCKS) is the major protein kinase C (PKC) substrate in many cell types including fibroblasts and brain cells. Here we describe the phosphorylation of MARCKS and the site specificity for different PKC isotypes. Conventional (c)PKC beta 1, novel (n)PKC delta and nPKC epsilon efficiently phosphorylated the MARCKS protein in vitro. The Km values were extremely low, reflecting a high affinity between kinases and substrate. The apparent affinity of nPKC delta (Km = 0.06 microM) was higher than that of nPKC epsilon and cPKC beta 1 (Km = 0.32 microM). The rate of substrate phosphorylation was inversely correlated with affinity and decreased in th…
EPR/ALANINE PELLETS WITH LOW Gd CONTENT FOR NEUTRON DOSIMETRY
2013
This paper reports on results obtained by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements and Monte Carlo (MC) simulation on a blend of alanine added with low content of gadolinium oxide (5 % by weight) to improve the sensitivity to thermal neutron without excessively affecting tissue equivalence. The sensitivity is enhanced by this doping procedure of more an order of magnitude. The results are compared with those obtained with the addition of boric acid (50 % by weight) where boron is in its natural isotopic composition in order to produce low-cost EPR dosemeters. The gadolinium addition influences neutron sensitivity more than the boron addition. The presence of additives does not sub…
Alanine blends for ESR measurements of thermal neutron fluence in a mixed radiation field
2007
In this paper, the results of a study on the electron spin resonance (ESR) dosimetry to measure thermal neutron fluence in a mixed radiation field (neutron and photons) are presented. The ESR responses of alanine dosemeters with different additives are compared. In particular, the (10)B-acid boric and the Gd-oxide were chosen to enhance the sensitivity of alanine dosemeters to thermal neutrons. Irradiations were carried out inside the thermal column of the TAPIRO reactor of the ENEA center, Casaccia Rome. The main results are a greater neutron sensitivity and a smaller lowest detectable fluence for the dosemeters with gadolinium than for dosemeters of alanine with (10)B, which is well known…
Neutron flux and gamma dose measurement in the BNCT irradiation facility at the TRIGA reactor of the University of Pavia
2018
Abstract University of Pavia is equipped with a TRIGA Mark II research nuclear reactor, operating at a maximum steady state power of 250 kW. It has been used for many years to support Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) research. An irradiation facility was constructed inside the thermal column of the reactor to produce a sufficient thermal neutron flux with low epithermal and fast neutron components, and low gamma dose. In this irradiation position, the liver of two patients affected by hepatic metastases from colon carcinoma were irradiated after borated drug administration. The facility is currently used for cell cultures and small animal irradiation. Measurements campaigns have been ca…
Crystal structure ofN-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)glycyl-(Z)-β-bromodehydroalanine methyl ester [Boc–Gly–(β-Br)(Z)ΔAla–OMe]
2014
In a dehydroamino acid with a C=C bond between the α- and β-C atoms, the amino acid residues are linked trans to each other and there are no strong intramolecular hydrogen bonds. The torsion angles indicate a non-helical conformation of the molecule.
