Snapshot imaging of postpulse transient molecular alignment revivals

Laser induced field-free alignment of linear molecules is investigated by using a single-shot spatial imaging technique. The measurements are achieved by femtosecond time-resolved optical polarigraphy (FTOP). Individual alignment revivals recorded at high resolution in ${\text{CO}}_{2}$, as well as simultaneous observation of several alignment revivals produced within the rotational period of the ${\text{O}}_{2}$ molecule are reported. The data are analyzed with a theoretical model describing the alignment experienced by each molecule standing within the interaction region observed by the detector. Orientation of Polar Molecules by Laser Induced Adiabatic Passage

International audience; We show that two overlapping linearly polarized laser pulses of frequencies ω and its second harmonic 2ω can strongly orient linear polar molecules, by adiabatic passage along dressed states. The resulting robust orientation can be interpreted as a laser-induced localization in the effective double well potential created by the fields, which induces a preliminary molecular alignment. The direction of the orientation can be selected by the relative phase of the fields.

Field-free molecular alignment induced by elliptically polarized laser pulses: Noninvasive three-dimensional characterization

International audience; An investigation of field-free molecular alignment produced by elliptically polarized laser pulses is reported. Experiments are conducted in CO2 at room temperature. A noninvasive all-optical technique, based on the cross defocusing of a probe pulse, is used to measure the alignment along two orthogonal directions which is sufficient to provide a three-dimensional characterization. The field-free molecular alignment produced by a laser of elliptical polarization is in good agreement in terms of amplitude and shape with theoretical predictions. Alignement moléculaire par impulsions laser ultrabrèves : Mesures & Applications

The interaction of an intense ultrashort laser pulse with a molecular sample leads, after the end of the pulse, to molecular alignment at specific time under field-free conditions. This thesis is dedicated to the measurements and applications of this effect. The degree of alignment is determined through the variation of the refractive index induced by the rearrangement of the molecular dipoles. A two-dimensional technique allowing to measure molecular alignment on a single-shot basis is reported in this document. Qauntum control of molecular rotation and of processes in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

The goal of this thesis is to apply quantum control techniques to manipulate molecular rotation and to enhance the efficiency of processes in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance.These techniques have been used theoretically and experimentally to control the orientation of a symmetric top molecule by means of THz laser fields. This study has been extended to the case of a long interaction distance between the field and the sample. In this case, the molecule cannot be approximated as isolated. We have also shown the extend to which the time evolution of the degree of orientation can be shaped. Partial cation-substitution in the sulphide kesterite: Absorber and heterojunction engineering

International audience; The kesterite-based solar cells still suffer from a low conversion efficiency due to the large defect of the open circuit voltage Voc. This defect is mainly due to several problems related to the absorber material and the device interfaces. ABSTRACT The phenolic acid decarboxylase gene padA is involved in the phenolic acid stress response (PASR) in gram-positive bacteria. In Lactobacillus plantarum , the padR gene encodes the negative transcriptional regulator of padA and is cotranscribed with a downstream gene, usp1 , which encodes a putative universal stress protein (USP), Usp1, of unknown function. Correspondance: cosson@supagro.inra.fr; International audience; We used mitochondrial cyt b sequences to investigate the phylogenetic relationships of Crocidura russula (sensu lato) populations across the Strait of Gibraltar, western Europe, Maghreb, and the Mediterranean and Atlantic islands. This revealed very low genetic divergence between European and Moroccan populations. The application of a molecular clock previously calibrated for shrews suggested that the separation of European from Moroccan lineages occurred less than 60 000 bp, which is at least 5 million years (Myr) after the reopening of the Strait of Gibraltar.
