Catalytic Functionalization of Methane and Light Alkanes in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide

2014

International audience; The development of catalytic methods for the effective functionalization of methane yet remains a challenge. The best system known to date is the so-called Catalytica Process based on the use of platinum catalysts to convert methane into methyl bisulfate with a TOF rate of 10−3 s. In this contribution, we report a series of silver complexes containing perfluorinated tris(indazolyl)borate ligands that catalyze the functionalization of methane into ethyl propionate upon reaction with ethyl diazoacetate (EDA) by using supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) as the reaction medium. The employment of this reaction medium has also allowed the functionalization of ethane, prop…

Prenatal exposure to perfluoroalkyl substances, immune-related outcomes, and lung function in children from a Spanish birth cohort study.

2019

Background: Prenatal exposure to perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) has been associated with impaired immune and respiratory health during childhood but the evidence is inconsistent and limited for lung function. We studied the association between prenatal PFASs exposure and immune and respiratory health, including lung function, up to age 7 years in the Spanish INMA birth cohort study. Methods: We assessed four PFASs in maternal plasma samples collected during the 1st trimester of pregnancy (years: 2003-2008): perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS), perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), perfluorooctanoate (PFOA), and perfluorononanoate (PFNA). Mothers reported the occurrence (yes/no) of lower respir…

Stabilization of ZSM-5 zeolite catalysts for steam catalytic cracking of naphtha for production of propene and ethene

2012

In order to increase ethene and propene, naphtha steam catalytic cracking has been considered. The cracking of C 5-C 12 n-alkanes with ZSM-5 has been studied in absence and in presence of steam and the influence of the operation variables was studied. Irreversible catalyst deactivation by dealumination also occurs in the reactor when the cracking is carried out in the presence of steam. To diminish steam deactivation, the influence of zeolite Si/Al framework and a postsynthesis treatment by phosphorous have been studied and optimized. Much more stable catalyst can be achieved that result in an increase in activity without penalty for production of ethene and propene.

Evidence that steric factors modulate reactivity of tautomeric iron-oxo species in stereospecific alkane C-H hydroxylation

2014

A new iron complex mediates stereospecific hydroxylation of alkyl C-H bonds with hydrogen peroxide, exhibiting excellent efficiency. Isotope labelling studies provide evidence that the relative reactivity of tautomerically related oxo-iron species responsible for the C-H hydroxylation reaction is dominated by steric factors This work has been supported by the European Union (the Erasmus Mundus program), the International Research Training Group Metal Sites in Biomolecules: Structures, Regulation and Mechanisms (www.biometals.eu), and COST Action CM1003. Substrate-dependent fluorinations of highly functionalized cycloalkanes

2016

Abstract Substrate-dependent fluorinations of several highly functionalized cycloalkanes with multiple stereocentres were investigated. The synthetic transformations were based on selective functionalization of the ring C C bonds of the readily available bicyclic β-lactams by epoxidation and regioselective nucleophilic oxirane opening with azide or cyanide, followed by hydroxy–fluorine exchange with Deoxofluor. Depending on the substituents and their relative steric arrangement, the attempted fluorinations produced different types of substituted cycloalkanes. These selective, substrate-directed synthetic procedures and their presumed pathways towards interesting highly functionalized fluori…

Differential proteomics highlights metabolic changes associated with n-hexadecane utilization in a Streptomyces coelicolor strain expressing Gordonia…

2011

Introduction: Alkanes are biodegraded to generate the corresponding primary alcohol trough alkane hydroxylases (AHs) consisting on an integral membrane alkane monooxygenase (AlkB) and two soluble proteins, rubredoxin and rubredoxin reductase. Recently, an alkB gene was reported to be involved in degradation of long chain n-alkanes in the actinobacterium Gordonia sp. SoCg. This gene was expressed in Streptomyces coelicolor M145 which is unable to degrade n-alkanes. Results: The engineered strain, M145-AH, can biotransform n-hexadecane into the corresponding 1-hexadecanol and it is able to grow on n-hexadecane as sole carbon source. Changes in global protein expression associated with n-hexad…

The response of Trissolcus basalis to footprint contact kairomones from Nezara viridula females is mediated by leaf epicuticular waxes.

2009

Chemical footprints left behind by true bugs are perceived as contact kairomones by scelionid egg parasitoids. Female wasps encountering a contaminated artificial substrate display a characteristic arrestment posture, holding the body motionless and antennating the surface. In the system Nezara viridula (L.) and its egg parasitoid Trissolcus basalis (Wollaston), previous studies have shown that the kairomone mediating such behavior is part of N. viridula's cuticular hydrocarbons (CHC) and furthermore that the wasp's ability to discriminate host male and female footprints is mainly based on the presence/absence of nonadecane (nC(19)). In this study, the effect of epicuticular waxes of leaves…
