Vezatin, a novel transmembrane protein, bridges myosin VIIA to the cadherin-catenins complex

2000

International audience; Defects in myosin VIIA are responsible for deafness in the human and mouse. The role of this unconventional myosin in the sensory hair cells of the inner ear is not yet understood. Here we show that the C-terminal FERM domain of myosin VIIA binds to a novel transmembrane protein, vezatin, which we identi®ed by a yeast two-hybrid screen. Vezatin is a ubiquitous protein of adherens cell±cell junctions, where it interacts with both myosin VIIA and the cadherin±catenins complex. Its recruitment to adherens junctions implicates the C-terminal region of a-catenin. Taken together, these data suggest that myosin VIIA, anchored by vezatin to the cadherin±catenins complex, cre…

Imprisoned Music A Study of Music Participation in a Malawian Juvenile Prison

2015

Masteroppgave utøvende musikk, rytmisk- Universitetet i Agder, 2015 Twice a week, music, dance and drama facilitators enter a juvenile prison in Malawi to host workshops. The main objective with this research is to gain a better understanding of how the inmates experience and perceive taking part in these activities. This is a qualitative research study, where participant observation in the field was conducted within a period of about seven months. Together with participant observation, semi-structured interviews constitute the method applied to explore the inmates´ experiences and perspectives. Their experiences with these activities are seen in relation to their experience of imprisonment…

Effect of in vivo stimulation of mice on the secretion of factor B of the alternative complement pathway by peritoneal macrophages

1977

After in vivo treatment of mice with thioglycollate medium, the amount of native factor B which could be detected in vitro in culture supernatants of peritoneal macrophages was much lower than that found in supernatants of macrophages taken from untreated mice. However, when the macrophages from thioglycollate medium-treated mice were cultured on a plastic surface covered with glutardialdehyde-linked bovine serum albumin, the culture supernatants contained larger quantities of native factor B than culture supernatants of macrophages from untreated mice under the same conditions. Thus, the effect of in vivo thioglycollate medium treatment on the in vitro secretion of factor B by peritoneal m…

Anti-HIV Agents Derived from the ent-Kaurane Diterpenoid Linearol

2002

Twenty-six semisynthetic ent-kaurane derivatives of linearol (1) have been investigated for their anti-HIV effects. Five compounds (4, 7, 11, 25, and 26) showed significant activity against HIV replication in H9 lymphocyte cells with EC(50) values in the range <0.1-3.11 microg/mL. With TI values of 163 and 184, compounds 4 and 25 are especially promising for further development as potential anti-HIV agents.

3-Oxo-rhazinilam:  A New Indole Alkaloid from Rauvolfia serpentina × Rhazya stricta Hybrid Plant Cell Cultures

2000

A new monoterpenoid indole alkaloid, 3-oxo-rhazinilam (1), was isolated from intergeneric somatic hybrid cell cultures of Rauvolfia serpentina and Rhazya stricta, and the structure was determined by detailed 1D and 2D NMR analysis. It was also proved that 3-oxo-rhazinilam (1) is a natural constituent of the hybrid cells.
