Data from: Effects of undergrowth removal and edge proximity on ground beetles and vascular plants in urban boreal forests
2019
Urban forests are regularly managed for human safety and aesthetic reasons, but they are crucial habitat for many species. Removals of undergrowth occur commonly in these forests, yet the ecological consequences of these operations are poorly understood. We sampled ground beetles (Coleoptera, Carabidae) and vascular plants along 20-m edge gradients in Finnish urban forests, in five stands treated 0.5−2.5 years earlier with undergrowth removal and in five untreated stands. We hypothesized that undergrowth removal and edge proximity would benefit opportunistic and open-habitat species, whereas shady-habitat species would be affected negatively. Epigrafía funeraria nazarí: el epitafio de al-Yanaštī (835/1436)
2016
Inv. 1962/34/15).
Data from: Moving in the Anthropocene: global reductions in terrestrial mammalian movements
2019
Animal movement is fundamental for ecosystem functioning and species survival, yet the effects of the anthropogenic footprint on animal movements have not been estimated across species. Using a unique GPS-tracking database of 803 individuals across 57 species, we found that movements of mammals in areas with a comparatively high human footprint were on average one-half to one-third the extent of their movements in areas with a low human footprint. We attribute this reduction to behavioral changes of individual animals and to the exclusion of species with long-range movements from areas with higher human impact. Global loss of vagility alters a key ecological trait of animals that affects no…
Alus darītavas vizuālā identitāte un tās integrācija bāra interjerā
2020
2020
Diplomdarbā “Mazā ražotne kā publisks objekts”, analizējot pieejamo literatūru un uzziņas avotus, tiek izpētīta alus brūžu nozīme gan tūrismā, gan Latvijas vēsturē, gan izpētīti pamatprincipi veiksmīga alus darītavas interjera izveidei, kā arī apskatīts, kāda ir grafiskā dizaina nozīme interjerā. Empīriskajā daļā, balstoties uz teorētiskajā daļā gūtajām zināšanām, tiek analizētas gan Latvijā, gan citur pasaulē esošas veiksmīgas un funkcionējošas amatalus darītavas, analizēti to uzbūves principi. Radošajā daļā, pielietojot teorētiskajā un empīriskajā daļā gūtās zināšanas, tiek izstrādāts interjera dizaina projekts alus darītavai. Darbs sastāv no 5 nodaļām, 9 rasējumiem, viena pielikuma. Atsl…
Development of immunoaffinity columns for pyraclostrobin extraction from fruit juices and analysis by liquid chromatography with UV detection
2010
Abstract Pyraclostrobin belongs to a new generation of fungicides widely used to preserve high valuable crops. In the present study, three monoclonal antibodies with different affinities to this modern strobilurin have been evaluated for their usefulness in the production of immunoaffinity columns suitable for the solid-phase extraction, concentration, and clean-up of residues from food commodities. Different immunosorbents were produced and characterized in terms of antibody immobilization efficiency, immunosorbent binding capacity, optimum elution conditions, and reusability. Covalent coupling of the antibodies to Sepharose–CNBr gel took place with high yield (over 90%), whereas the immun…
Effect of number of seed parents on the genetic diversity of artificially regenerated stands of holm oak
2007
Artificial populations of holm oak (Quercus ilex L. s.l.) and their natural seed origin populations selected from Andalusia (Southern Spain) and Sicily (Southern Italy) were analysed with six nuclear microsatellite loci to explore the effect of seed collection methods. Low effective allele numbers (3.07-6.67) and extremely low effective populations sizes (35.4-102.9) were detected in both reforestation stands, probably due to an inappropriate forester seed collection strategy limited to a few mother trees. Analysis of simulated progenies showed that optimal sampling size to obtain seed collections genetically similar to the origin populations should range from 20 to 50 individuals, but coul…
Comparative chemical composition, free radical-scavenging and cytotoxic properties of essential oils of six Stachys species from different regions of…
2009
Abstract The chemical composition of essential oils of six Stachys species, S. cretica L. ssp. vacillans Rech. fil., S. germanica L., S. hydrophila Boiss., S. nivea Labill., S. palustris L. and S. spinosa L., obtained by hydrodistillation, was studied by GC and GC–MS. All the oils have in common a great percentage of fatty acids and esters (24.2–58.5%) and a high amount of sesquiterpenes (16–35.9%), with the exception of the oil from S. palustris , which consisted mainly of carbonylic compounds (25.4%). The antioxidant activity by DPPH test and the antiproliferative activity on a series of human cancer cell lines (C32, amelanotic melanoma and ACHN, renal cell adenocarcinoma) were investigat…
