Reliģiskais simbolisms Luīzes Erdrikas romānos
2018
Nanomaterial-based cocaine aptasensors.
2015
Up to now, many different methods have been developed for detection of cocaine, but most of these methods are usually time-consuming, tedious and require special or expensive equipment. Therefore, the development of simple, sensitive and rapid detection methods is necessary. In the last decade, aptamers have been used as a new biosensor platform for detection of cocaine in different samples. Aptamers are artificial single-stranded DNA or RNA oligonucleotides capable of binding to specific molecular targets with high affinity and if integrated to nanomaterials, it may lead in precise methods for cocaine detection in the common laboratories. In this review, recent advances and applications of…
Design and modelling a of bimodal camera system
2021
In computer vision, researchers face a challenging concern due to the limited field of view (FoV) when using standard cameras in capturing scenes. This problem of narrow FoV often encountered within applications that involve tasks which are related to the robot vision. Many authors have attempted, in different approaches, to solve this issue by fusing two cameras. However, they failed to improve the registration and fusing errors, where the obtained results still limited and not accurate enough. To deal with this limitation and decrease these errors, we propose a new method of camera calibration based on Interior-Point Optimisation (IPO) algorithm using transformation matrix estimation. Thi…
Time trends of human papillomavirus types in invasive cervical cancer, from 1940 to 2007.
2013
Contribution over time of human papillomavirus (HPV) types in human cancers has been poorly documented. Such data is fundamental to measure current HPV vaccines impact in the years to come. We estimated the HPV type-specific distribution in a large international series of invasive cervical cancer (ICC) over 70 years prior to vaccination. Paraffin embedded ICC cases diagnosed between 1940 and 2007 were retrieved from eleven countries in Central-South America, Asia and Europe. Included countries reported to have low-medium cervical cancer screening uptake. Information on age at and year of diagnosis was collected from medical records. After histological confirmation, HPV DNA detection was per…
Changes over three decades in outcome and the prognostic influence of age-at-diagnosis in young patients with neuroblastoma: a report from the Intern…
2011
Abstract Purpose Increasing age has been an adverse risk factor in children with neuroblastoma (NB) since the 1970’s, with a 12-month age-at-diagnosis cut-off for treatment stratification. Over the last 30 years, treatment intensity for children >12 months with advanced-stage disease has increased; to investigate if this strategy has improved outcome and/or reduced the prognostic influence of age, we analysed the International Neuroblastoma Risk Group (INRG) database. Patients and methods Data from 11,037 children with NB (1974–2002) from Australia, Europe, Japan, North America. Cox modelling of event-free survival (EFS) tested if the era and prognostic significance of age-of-diagnosis, adj…
Prevalence of HPV infection in racial-ethnic subgroups of head and neck cancer patients
2017
Abstract The landscape of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in racial/ethnic subgroups of head and neck cancer (HNC) patients has not been evaluated carefully. In this study, a meta-analysis examined the prevalence of HPV in HNC patients of African ancestry. Additionally, a pooled analysis of subject-level data was also performed to investigate HPV prevalence and patterns of p16 (CDNK2A) expression amongst different racial groups. Eighteen publications (N = 798 Black HNC patients) were examined in the meta-analysis, and the pooled analysis included 29 datasets comprised of 3129 HNC patients of diverse racial/ethnic background. The meta-analysis revealed that the prevalence of HPV16 was h…

Pegylated interferon therapy in chronic hepatitis C: lights and shadows of an innovative treatment
2007
Abstract Pegylated interferon (PEG-IFN) in combination with ribavirin is the standard of treatment for chronic hepatitis C. Several viral and host factors influence the outcome of treatment, such as hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype, baseline viral load, viral kinetics, race, body weight, advanced liver disease, HIV co-infection, and adherence to therapy. Monitoring the response of HCV to treatment during the early time points (4 weeks or 12 weeks) after initiation of therapy has emerged as a critical tool to predict sustained virologic response (SVR), defined as undetectable serum HCV RNA 24 weeks after the end of therapy. To counterbalance the influence of host and viral factors, treatment…
Calibration of the RPC charge readout in the ARGO-YBJ experiment
2012
""The charge readout of Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) is implemented in the ARGO-YBJ experiment to measure the charged particle density of the shower front up to 10^4\\\/m^2, enabling the study of the primary cosmic rays with energies in the ''knee'' region. As the first time for RPCs being used this way, a telescope with RPCs and scintillation detectors is setup to calibrate the number of charged particles hitting a RPC versus its charge readout. Air shower particles are taken as the calibration beam. The telescope was tested at sea level and then moved to the ARGO-YBJ site for coincident operation with the ARGO-YBJ experiment. The charge readout shows good linearity with the particle de…
Prevalence of impacted teeth and supernumerary teeth by radiographic evaluation in three Latin American countries: A cross-sectional study
2021
Background Supernumerary teeth are those that exceed the usual dental formula. There are different classifications depending on their anatomical location, shape and number. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of impacted and supernumerary teeth in a sample of panoramic radiographs from three Latin American countries. Material and Methods A retrospective and cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, in which the radiographic observation and analysis of 2000 panoramic radiographs, provided by different radiological centers in Peru, Colombia and Bolivia were performed. An examiner, specialized in Stomatology and Oral Surgery, carried out the radiographic analy…
