Determination of methamphetamine in urine samples with sodium 1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulphonate

Optimal conditions have been studied for the determination of methamphetamine in urine samples by an extractive-spectrophotometric method with sodium 1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulphonate (NQS) as reagent. These conditions are: NaHCO3 pH 10, NQS 6.3 × 10−3 mol/l and heating for 5 min at 45°C. The accuracy and precision of the method were tested. The detection limits were 0.2 mg/l in the standard and 0.9 mg/l when 5 ml of urine sample were taken. The standard deviation of blank urine was evaluated from 12 different samples. The relative errors found in the determination of methamphetamine in urine were lower than 10% if the methamphetamine-amphetamine ratio was higher than 4.
Detection of banned drugs in sport by micellar liquid chromatography

Abstract A rapid method for the determination of banned drugs in sport (including stimulants, anabolic steroids and diuretics) based on micellar liquid chromatography is proposed. The mobile phase is an aqueous solution of a surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulphate in this instance) and the stationary phase is octadecylsilica. The retention parameters of the drugs were established and the effect of a mobile phase organic modifier on the chromatographic behaviour of the compounds was studied. Improvements in efficiency were achieved by control of the temperature of the mobile phase. Abstract In this study, a gas chromatograph (GC) has been coupled to a drift tube ion mobility spectrometer (IMS) in order to develop an analytical procedure for the determination of psychoactive substances in oral fluids. Working parameters, including the GC-IMS interface ones, were adjusted in order to obtain sensitive and robust signals. A volume of 500 μL of oral fluid was extracted with 250 μL chloroform and, after centrifugation, were injected into the GC-IMS system. A chromatographic method for the analysis of amphetamine and related compounds in urine using 3,5-dinitrobenzoyl chloride (3,5-DNB) as a labeling reagent is presented. This assay is based on the employment of solid-phase extraction (SPE) cartridges for sample cleanup and derivatization. Abstract A new method is presented for the determination of DMA in water as its 9-fluorenylmethyl chloroformate (FMOC) derivative using solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and liquid chromatography. The method is based on the employment of SPME fibres coated with carbowax-templated resin (CW-TR) for analyte extraction and derivatization. The derivatization of biogenic amines such as putrescine, cadaverine, spermidine and spermine with dansyl chloride in solid phase extraction cartridges is described. Different types of filling materials were tested in order to have the highest retention of the different analytes. The best results were obtained by using C18 cartridges. An automatic method has been developed for the estimation of organic amino nitrogen (CH2-NH) and ammonium in water samples. We propose a continuous flow system in which nitrogen compounds react with hypochlorite reagent to produce chloramines. Subsequently, the mixture is mixed with luminol, generating a chemiluminescence signal. The signal emission at 425 nm, registered as a function of time, decreases as nitrogen concentration increases, due to the decrease on hypochlorite concentration. Abstract The present manuscript is dealing with the application of molecular connectivity calculations to predict the chemiluminescent behaviour of ergot alkaloids when they react with common strong oxidants in liquid phase. Twenty compounds were theoretically studied by means of a discriminant equation formerly published, being 19 of them predicted as chemiluminescent with a high probability.
