Recognition of Viologen Derivatives in Water by N-Alkyl Ammonium Resorcinarene Chlorides

2017

Three water-soluble N-alkyl ammonium resorcinarene chlorides decorated with terminal hydroxyl groups at the lower rims were synthesized and characterized. The receptors were decorated at the upper rim with either terminal hydroxyl, rigid cyclohexyl, or flexible benzyl groups. The binding affinities of these receptors toward three viologen derivatives, two of which possess an acetylmethyl group attached to one of the pyridine nitrogens, in water were investigated via 1H NMR spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). ITC quantification of the binding process gave association constants of up to 103 M–1. Analyses reveal a spontaneous binding process whi…

ChemInform Abstract: A Simple Procedure for the Oxidation of Alcohols Using [Bis(acetoxy)iodo]benzene and a Catalytic Amount of Bromide Ions in Ethyl…

2015

Primary and secondary benzylic alcohols and secondary aliphatic alcohols were oxidized to the corresponding aldehydes and ketones by using [bis(acetoxy)iodo]benzene (BAIB) and a catalytic amount of bromide ions, from tetrabutylammonium bromide or KBr, in ethyl acetate. The catalytic role of the bromide ions was also highlighted in the oxidation of primary aliphatic alcohols and secondary allylic alcohols carried out in the presence of 1 mol% TEMPO.

Synthesis of V-ZrSiO4 solid solutions

1990

This letter describes the results of the preparation of V-ZrSiO 4 solid solutions from a sol or alkoxide and solute salts. This technique allows a greater degree of product formation to be achieved at lower temperatures, as well as the possibility of studying the characteristics of possible solid solutions

Abstract. Understanding the importance of the different oxidation pathways of sulfur dioxide (SO2) to sulfate is crucial for an interpretation of the climate effects of sulfate aerosols. Sulfur isotope analysis of atmospheric aerosol is a well established tool for identifying sources of sulfur in the atmosphere and assessment of anthropogenic influence. The power of this tool is enhanced by a new ion microprobe technique that permits isotope analysis of individual aerosol particles as small as 0.5 μm diameter. With this new single particle technique, different types of primary and secondary sulfates are first identified based on their chemical composition, and then their individual isotopic…

The Effect of Bialaphos on Ammonium-Assimilation and Photosynthesis II. Effect on Photosynthesis and Photorespiration

1989

Abstract The application of bialaphos (phosphinothricyl-alanyl-alanine) effects a quick photosynthesis inhibition under atmospheric conditions (400 ppm CO2, 21% O2). However, under conditions (1000 ppm CO2, 2% O2) under which photorespiration cannot occur there is no photosynthesis inhibition. In the previous investigation it could be shown that bialaphos splits in plants into phosphinothricin and alanine. The inhibition of glutamine synthetase through freed phosphinothricin results in an NH4 +-accumulation and a decrease in glutamine. With the addition of glutamine, photosynthesis inhibition by bialaphos can be reduced. An NH4 +-accumulation takes place under atmospheric conditions as well…

A guide for selecting the most appropriate method for ammonium determination in water analysis

2006

Abstract We have critically evaluated the main parameters involved in determining ammonium in water samples, in order to select the most suitable method appropriate to the requirements of the analysis. We compared several methods: reference (ion-selective electrodes, Nessler and indophenol); Roth’s modified; based on luminol reaction; and, based on peroxioxalate reaction.

Ethyldimethylammonium oxalate

2006

The title crystal structure, C4H12N+·C2HO4−, contains discrete ethyldimethylammonium cations and oxalate monoanions. Linear chains of oxalate monoanions are formed by strong O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. These chains are further connected by N—H⋯O and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds through ethyldimethylammonium cations, forming channels along the a axis.
