A study on the adsorption voltammetry of titanium with various heterocyclic azo-compounds

1994

The voltammetric behaviour of various heterocyclic azo-compounds and their Ti-complexes was investigated at a stationary Hg electrode. In moderately acidic solutions Ti(IV) reacts with pyridylazo-compounds (PAR, 5-Br-PADAP, PAN), thiazolylazo-compounds (TAR, 5-Me-TAR, TAN, 4-Me-TAP) and pyrazolylazo-compounds (MDR, ERB) to form Ti-complexes, which are strongly adsorbed onto the Hg-electrode. These complexes are reduced at potentials more negative than those corresponding to the reduction of their respective ligands. The conditions for determining titanium by adsorption voltammetry using TAR and MDR as complexing agents were investigated in detail, as was the influence of foreign ions on the…

Trace determination of volatile polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in natural waters by magnetic ionic liquid-based stir bar dispersive liquid microext…

2017

In this work, a novel hybrid approach called stir bar dispersive liquid microextraction (SBDLME) that combines the advantages of stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) and dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) has been employed for the accurate and sensitive determination of ten polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in natural water samples. The extraction is carried out using a neodymium stir bar magnetically coated with a magnetic ionic liquid (MIL) as extraction device, in such a way that the MIL is dispersed into the solution at high stirring rates. Once the stirring is ceased, the MIL is magnetically retrieved onto the stir bar, and subsequently subjected to thermal desorptio…

Determination of ultraviolet filters in bathing waters by stir bar sorptive–dispersive microextraction coupled to thermal desorption–gas chromatograp…

2015

In this work, a new approach that combines the advantages of stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) and dispersive solid phase extraction (DSPE), i.e. stir bar sorptive-dispersive microextraction (SBSDµE), is employed as enrichment and clean-up technique for the sensitive determination of eight lipophilic UV filters in water samples. The extraction is accomplished using a neodymium stir bar magnetically coated with oleic acid-coated cobalt ferrite magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) as sorbent material, which are detached and dispersed into the solution at high stirring rate. When stirring is stopped, MNPs are magnetically retrieved onto the stir bar, which is subjected to thermal desorption (TD) to…

Atomic fluorescence spectrometric determination of trace amounts of arsenic and antimony in drinking water by continuous hydride generation

1999

A highly sensitive and simple method has been developed for the determination of As(III), total As, Sb(III) and total Sb in drinking water samples by continuous hydride generation and atomic fluorescence spectrometry (HGAFS). For As determination, water samples aspirated in a carrier of 2 mol l(-1) HCl were merged with a reducing NaBH(4) 3%(m/v) solution, with sample and NaBH(4) flow rates of 12.5 and 1.5 ml min(-1) respectively. The hydride generated in a 170 cm reaction coil was transported to the detector with an Ar flow of 400 ml min(-1), and a limit of detection between 5 and 20 ng l(-1) was obtained. For Sb determination, 2.5 mol l(-1) HCl and 2%(m/v) NaBH(4) were employed, with respe…

Tratamiento jurídico de una enfermedad social. Los trastornos de la conducta alimentaria (TCA)

2018

The boundless increase of people suffering from an Eating Disorder (ED), makes necessary to develop measures related to other factors, in order to overcome the ones characterized of being strictly sanitary. The disease has become a social and cultural phenomenon. The exaltation of the cult to the body, with the stereotype of the extreme thinness linked with beauty and success is causing that, particularly young people, try to achieve an image which, in many cases, can jeopardize their health, that is the reason why the rearrangement of values has become an objective of paramount importance. LIFE CARE ANNUITIES (LCA) EMBEDDED IN A NOTIONAL DEFINED CONTRIBUTION (NDC) FRAMEWORK

2016

AbstractThis paper examines the possibility of embedding public long-term care (LTC) insurance within the retirement pension system, i.e. introducing life care annuities into a notional defined contribution framework. To do this, we develop a multistate overlapping generations model that includes the so-called survivor dividend and give special attention to the assumptions made about mortality rates for dependent persons and LTC incidence rates, which largely determine the contribution rate assigned to LTC. The proposed model could be of interest to policymakers because it could be implemented without too much difficulty, it would universalize LTC coverage with a “fixed” cost, and it would …

Subjective Economic Risk to Beneficiaries in Notional Defined Contribution Accounts

2006

ABSTRACT This article aims to quantify the aggregate subjective economic risk to which beneficiaries would be exposed if a retirement pension system based on notional account philosophy were introduced. We use scenario generation techniques to make projections of the factors that determine the real expected internal rate of return (IRR) and the expected replacement rate (RR) for the beneficiary according to six retirement formulae based on the most widely accepted rates or indices. We then apply the model to the case of Spain. Our projections are based on Herce and Alonso's macroeconomic scenario 2000-2050 (2000) and include information about the past performance of the indices and the time…

Automatic Balance Mechanisms in Pay-As-You-Go Pension Systems

2009

This paper shows the usefulness of the automatic balance mechanisms (ABMs) and explores the issue of introducing an ABM into the Spanish public contributory retirement pension system. We define the concept of the automatic balance mechanism and carry out an analysis of those existing in Sweden, Canada, Germany, Japan and Finland. We also present an indicator of the Spanish system's solvency which emerges from the actuarial balance sheet, and simulate the effect that certain changes in the parameters of the present system would have on solvency, showing the direction that could be taken if the mechanism were to be introduced in Spain. The main conclusion reached is that, given the system's s…

Social Insurance Accounting for a Notional Defined Contribution Scheme Combining Retirement and Long-Term Care Benefits

2018

This paper develops a social insurance accounting model for a notional defined contribution (NDC) scheme combining retirement and long-term care (LTC) contingencies. The procedure relies on standard double-entry bookkeeping and enables us to compile a “Swedish” type actuarial balance sheet (ABS) following a framework equivalent to an open group approach. This methodology is suitable for reporting the system’s solvency status and can show periodical changes in the system’s financial position by means of an income statement. The information underpinning the actuarial valuation is based on events and transactions that are verifiable at the valuation date, without consid…

Concept of Biogenic Ferromanganese Crust Formation: Coccoliths as Bio-seeds in Crusts from Central Atlantic Ocean (Senghor Seamount/Cape Verde)

2011

At depths of 2,000 to 3,000 m, seamounts from the Cape Verde archipelago (Central Atlantic Ocean) are largely covered with ferromanganese crusts. Here we studied 60 to 150 mm thick crusts from the Senghor Seamount (depth: 2257.4 m). The crusts have a non lamellated texture and are covered with spherical nodules. The chemical composition shows a dominance of MnO2 (26.1%) and Fe2O3 (38.8%) with considerable amounts of Co (0.74%) and TiO2 (2.1%). Analysis by scanning electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA) revealed a well defined compositional zonation of micro-layers; the distribution pattern of Mn does not match that of Fe. Analysis by high resolution scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed…
