Structural studies of homoisoflavonoids: NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and theoretical calculations

2010

Abstract In this article we present a detailed structural investigation for five homoisoflavonoids, molecules important from the pharmacological point of view. For studying the electron distribution as well as its influence on the physicochemical properties, NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and theoretical calculations have been used. Nuclear magnetic shieldings obtained by using DFT calculations for optimized molecular geometries are correlated with the experimentally determined chemical shifts. The theoretical data are well in agreement with the experimental values. The single crystal X-ray structures of homoisoflavonoid derivatives 1, 3, and 4 have been solved. The molecular geometri…

The compounds were characterized by 1H, 13C, 15N, and 119Sn (1–3) nuclear magnetic resonance and infrared spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis (1–4). A graph set analysis was performed for compoun…

Photochemically Produced Singlet Oxygen: Applications and Perspectives

2018

This Review aims to provide early stage researchers with an updated guide to applications of photochemically produced singlet oxygen and, at the same time, widen the experienced researcher's perspectives in a holistic approach to singlet oxygen chemistry. Without being exhaustive, literature between 2010 and early 2018 has been surveyed by focusing on a critical evaluation of new knowledge and applications. After an introductory section concerning singlet oxygen production, detection, and interactions with biological systems, subsequent sections describe current applications of singlet-oxygen-enabled technology. Besides strictly chemical synthesis applications, attention has been given to t…

Interplay of hydrogen bonding and π–π interactions in the molecular complex of 2,6-lutidine N-oxide and water

2006

Abstract The crystal and molecular structure of 2,6-lutidine N-oxide monohydrate (1) has been determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. Each water molecule is acting as bridging ligand between the N→O moieties of two 2,6-lutidine N-oxide molecules through moderate strong intermolecular hydrogen bonding (O–H⋯O, O⋯O distances are 2.787(2) and 2.832 (2) A) giving rise to a one-dimensional (1D) polymeric helical chain. A two-dimensional (2D) layered network is then formed by self-assembly of 1D helical chains via strong π–π interactions of the aromatic rings (interplanar distances 3.385 A). The molecular structure of 1 is compared with that for the already reported molecular structures of 2-ace…

2020

New soluble and intensely near-IR-absorbing transition metal (Ti, Zr, V, Ni) complexes were synthesized using a redox non-innocent N,N’-bis(3,5-di-tertbutyl-2-hydroxy-phenyl) -1,2-phenylenediamine (H4L) as a ligand precursor. In all the complexes, ([Ti(Lox)2, [Zr(Lox)2], [V(Lsq1)(HLox)] and [Ni(HLox)2], two organic molecules coordinate to the metal center as tri- or tetradentate ligands. The solid-state structures of the complexes were determined using single crystal XRD, and the compounds were further characterized with Electrospray Ionisation Mass Spectrometry (ESI-MS). Thermoanalytical measurements indicated the thermal stabilities of the complexes. All compounds absorb strongly in the n…

NMR T1-Relaxation Measurements on Paramagnetic Organolanthanides: An Alternative Tool for Structure Determination in Solution

2005

1H NMR investigations were conducted on four paramagnetic organolanthanides, all bearing the tetraisopropylcyclopentadienyl ligand Cp4i (HC5iPr4) in order to verify whether or not interactions observed in the solid state are maintained in solution. In some cases variable-temperature experiments were necessary to enhance the resolution and determine the best conditions for the study. The 1D NMR spectrum could be interpreted in every case. Complementary 2D COSY experiments allowed the full attribution of the signals. T1 (1H) relaxation values were determined for all the paramagnetic complexes at the most suitable temperature, and compared with those of the diamagnetic KCp4i. The same tendency…

X-ray, conformation and electronic structures of 1-nitropyrrolidine

2016

Abstract The chemistry of pyrrolidine compounds has drawn much attention because of their biological activities. The crystal and molecular structure of 1-nitropyrrolidine (C4H8NNO2) at 150K, along with calculated structures (DFT and MP2), are reported herein. In the solid-state, the asymmetric part of the unit cell is composed of one quartermolecule at the position of two perpendicular mirror planes and the five-membered ring is disordered over a mirror plane, revealing the twisted conformation. Both geometries suggest slight sp3 hybridization of the amine nitrogen atom. The non-planar geometry suggests the lack of conjugation of the amine nitrogen lone pair with the nitro group, however th…

Effect of quaternary ammonium salts on spectral properties of zinc octacarboxyphthalocyanine

2020

Abstract The paper presents results of the research on the influence of quaternary ammonium salts on UV–vis absorption and emission spectra of zinc octacarboxyphthalocyanine (ZnPcOC). Quaternary ammonium salts which show biological activity play a crucial role. In ZnPcOC solutions with a proper concentration of tetrabutylammonium salts (TBAX), a strong bathochromic shift band (λmax = 760 nm – “R” band) showing red fluorescence appears in time. The presence of tetrabutylammonium salt causes pH increase and, consequently, a gradual dissociation of carboxyl groups in ZnPcOC molecule. It seems that –COO— anions present in the ZnPcOC complex can interact with tetraalkylammonium cations, causing …

Thermo-Chromium: A Contactless Optical Molecular Thermometer.

2017

The unparalleled excited-state potential-energy landscape of the chromium(III)-based dye [1]3+ ([Cr(ddpd)2 ]3+ ; ddpd=N,N'-dimethyl-N,N'-dipyridin-2-yl-pyridin-2,6-diamine) enables a strong dual emission in the near infrared region. The temperature dependence of this dual emission allows the use of [1]3+ as an unprecedented molecular ratiometric thermometer in the 210-373 K temperature range in organic and in aqueous media. Incorporation of [1]3+ in biocompatible nanocarriers, such as 100 nm-sized polystyrene nanoparticles and solutol micelles, provides nanodimensional thermometers operating under physiological conditions.

Exploring the Slow Relaxation of the Magnetization in CoIII -Decorated {DyIII 2 } Units

2016

We have prepared and structurally characterized a new member of the butterfly-like {CoIII 2DyIII 2} single-molecule magnets (SMMs) through further CoIIIdecoration, with the formula [CoIII 4DyIII 2(OH)2(teaH)2(tea)2(Piv)6] (teaH3=triethanolamine; Piv=trimethylacetate or pivalate). Direct current (DC) susceptibility and magnetization measurements were performed allowing the extraction of possible crystal-field parameters. A simple electrostatic modeling shows reasonable agreement with experimental data. Alternating current (AC) susceptibility measurements under a zero DC field and under small applied fields were performed at different frequencies (i.e., 10–1500 Hz) and at low temperatures (i.…
