Digitization and Preservation of Cultural Heritage Products
2017
Cultural heritage encompasses various aspects of a nation's history. Cultural heritage artifacts are considered as priceless items that need special care. Since the wide adoption of new digital technologies, documenting and storing cultural heritage assets became more affordable and reliable. These records are then used in several applications. Researchers saw the opportunity to use digital heritage recordings for long-term preservation. They are considering cultural heritage artifacts as products, and the history behind them as a product lifecycle. In this paper, we present the research progress in cultural heritage digital processing and preservation, highlighting the most impactful advan…
SINGLE-PEAK RESOLUTION CRITERIA FOR OPTIMIZATION OF MOBILE PHASE COMPOSITION IN LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY
2001
Three criteria that evaluate the single peak resolution (peak purity) in chromatography, the free height fraction, free area fraction, and valley ratio, are examined. The main advantages of these criteria against other criteria based on peak pair separation, are that the measurements are not affected by the identity of neighboring peaks and are normalized, which make them very intuitive. The methodology is illustrated through the isocratic separation of mixtures of several sulphonamides (sulphacetamide, sulphadiazine, sulphadimethoxine, sulphaguanidine, sulphamerazine, sulphamethazine, sulphamethoxazole, sulphamethizole, sulphamonomethoxine, sulphanilamide, sulphapyridine, sulphaquinoxaline…
Study of the performance of a resolution criterion to characterise complex chromatograms with unknowns or without standards
2017
The search for best conditions in liquid chromatography is routinely carried out with information provided by chemical standards. However, sometimes there are samples with insufficient knowledge about their chemical composition. In other cases, identities of the components are known, but there are no standards available, and in other cases the identities of peaks in chromatograms taken under different conditions are ambiguous. Most resolution criteria used to measure separation performance cannot be applied to these samples. In this work, a global resolution function valid for all situations was developed based on automatic measurements of peak prominences (area fraction exceeding the line …
Matrix-isolation and ab initio study of the complex between formic acid and xenon
2012
Abstract We report on the identification of the complexes of formic acid (FA) and Xe in an argon matrix. The geometries, interaction energies, reaction barriers, and vibrational spectra of the FA⋯Xe complexes are calculated at the MP2 level of theory. The calculations reveal four structures for the trans-FA⋯Xe complex and four structures for the cis-FA⋯Xe complex. In the experiments, two structures of the trans-FA⋯Xe complex are observed after deposition of FA/Xe/Ar matrices, with and without OH⋯Xe interaction (H-bonded and non-H-bonded structures). The cis-FA⋯Xe complex was synthesized by vibrational excitation of the non-H-bonded trans-FA⋯Xe complex. The non-H-bonded and H-bonded structur…
Influence of annealing atmosphere on photoelectrochemical response of TiO2 nanotubes anodized under controlled hydrodynamic conditions
2021
[EN] The influence of three annealing atmospheres (air, nitrogen and argon) and the use of controlled hydrodynamic conditions (from 0 to 5000 rpm) on morphological, structural, chemical and photoelectrochemical properties of TiO2 nanotubes have been evaluated. For this purpose, different characterization techniques have been used: Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy, Raman Confocal Laser Spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction, X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Incident Photon-to-electron Conversion Efficiency measurements, ultraviolet-visible absorption spectra, Mott-Schottky analysis and photoelectrochemical water splitting tests. According to the results, it can be concluded that both hy…
High Resolution Sorption Studies of Argon and Nitrogen on Large Crystals of Aluminophosphate AlPO4-5 AND ZEOLITE ZSM-5
1989
High resolution adsorption (HRADS) with argon and nitrogen at 77 K in the pressure range of 10−6 < p/p° < 0.5 were performed on large crystals of zeolite ZSM-5 (180 μm) and aluminophosphate AlPO4-5 (150 μm) using a novel volumetric device. Multi-step isotherms of both adsorptives on ZSM-5 could be observed for the first time. The adsorption followed by low temperature microcalorimetry resulted in distinct exothermic signals at the steps in the adsorption isotherms. Based on the results of atom-atom potential energy calculations (AAP) as well as independent model building it was shown that 24 ‘kinetic’ adsorbate molecules can be filled into a ZSM-5 unit cell. Experimental results are reasona…
High-resolution sorption studies of argon and nitrogen on large crystals of microporous zeolite ZSM-5
1989
High resolution adsorption (HRADS) with argon and nitrogen at 77 K were performed on large crystals of zeolite ZSM-5 using a novel volumetric device. Multi-step isotherms for both adsorptives could be observed for the first time. The micropore filling was followed by low temperature microcalorimetry. Exothermic heats of adsorption were found to be correlated with steps in the adsorption isotherms. Based on results from atom-atom potential energy calculations (AAP) as well as from independent model building it is shown that 24 kinetic adsorbate molecules can be situated in a ZSM-5 unit cell. Localized adsorption is presented as possible filling mechanisms. Experimental results are reasonably…
Determination of the number densities of argon metastables in argon-hydrogen plasma by absorption and self-absorption methods
2006
The number densities of Ar 3s23p54s levels have been measured by means of two methods: a self-absorption method with a mirror behind the discharge vessel and an absorption method with a high-frequency electrodeless discharge lamp. Concentrations ranging from 6 × 107–4 × 109 cm−3 were obtained for the Ar 3s23p54s levels, depending on the argon content (10–100% Ar) in Ar/H2 microwave plasma. The populations of various sublevels of measured resonant and metastable states coincide within the experimental errors. It was observed that values from measurements of both methods are in good agreement.
Measurements of transition probabilities for two N I infrared transitions and their application for diagnostics of low temperature plasmas
2010
Abstract Spectra emitted from a wall-stabilized arc, running in a gas mixture of helium, argon, nitrogen, oxygen and traces of hydrogen have been studied. Intensities of selected spectral transitions of neutral nitrogen and oxygen have been measured. Applying the Boltzmann plot method and using a reliable set of O I transition probabilities of spectral lines, originating from levels considerably spread in excitation energies, the temperatures of arc plasmas have been determined. Line intensities of two N I infrared transitions, originating from doubly excited terms 3p′ 2 F o and 3p′ 2 G have been measured. In order to obtain the corresponding transition probabilities ( A ki ) for these line…

Structural changes of glycolic acid (GA) complex with nitrogen induced by selective overtone excitation of the νOH mode were followed in argon matrices using FTIR spectroscopy. For the most stable SSC1 complex present in different trapping sites directly upon deposition site, selective changes in the νOH region were achieved upon near-infrared irradiation. Simultaneously, new conformers of the GA…N2 complex were formed, giving rise to several sets of bands in the νOH and νC=O regions of the spectra. Both position and intensity of new absorptions appeared to be highly sensitive on the wavelength of radiation used, as well as on the annealing of the matrix. Based on theoretical calculations a…
