FT-ICR MS studies of ion-molecule reactions of Ru+ and Os+ with oxygen

Abstract The reactions of stored ruthenium and osmium cations with oxygen have been studied in a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometer. In case of osmium the reaction products OsO+ and OsO 2 + have been observed and corresponding reaction-rate constants have been determined. In addition, there is an unreactive fraction of Os+ ions due to the presence of a slightly endothermic reacting ground state. Only the excited states react with oxygen. For ruthenium no spontaneous reaction with oxygen has been observed unless the cyclotron motion of Ru+ was excited. Online gas-solid adsorption studies with single atom quantities of Hg, Tl, and Pb on SiO$_{2}$ and Au surfaces were carried out using short-lived radioisotopes with half-lives in the range of 4-49 s. This is a model study to measure adsorption enthalpies of superheavy elements Cn, Nh, and Fl. The short-lived isotopes were produced and separated by the gas-filled recoil separator TASCA at GSI. The products were stopped in He gas, and flushed into gas chromatography columns made of Si detectors whose surfaces were covered by SiO$_{2}$ or Au. Optimization of selenium determination in human milk and whole blood by flow injection hydride atomic absorption spectrometry.

abstract A flow injection hydride atomic absorption spectrometry (FI-HAAS) method was developed for determining selenium in human milk and whole blood after microwave digestion of the sample. The sample (2 mL human milk or 0.25 mL blood) was introduced into the microwave vessel with 1.5 mL HN03 and 0.25 mL H202 and 300 W (4 min) and 600 W (4 min) were applied. The digestion was completed by heating to 140 C (2-3 h). Se (VI) was reduced to Se (IV) with hydrochloric acid. A new analytical portable system is proposed for the direct determination of benzene vapor in the ambient air and natural gas, using differential absorption spectrometry with the direct Zeeman effect and innovative radiation sources: capillary mercury lamps with different isotopic compositions ((196)Hg, (198)Hg, (202)Hg, (204)Hg, and natural isotopic mixture). Resonance emission of mercury at a wavelength of 254 nm is used as probing radiation. Abstract The method of ultrasound-assisted extraction followed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) used for the determination of trace element concentrations (arsenic, copper, lead, antimony, and zinc) in shooting range areas was optimized. Optimization was achieved not only on the basis of the analysis of appropriate standard reference materials but also on that of 31 synthetic mixtures of matrix and analyte elements (aluminum, antimony, arsenic, calcium, copper, lead, iron, manganese, silicon, and zinc), in five concentrations. High-pressure and high-temperature X-ray diffraction studies of scheelite BaWO4

International audience; We carried out high-pressure (HP) and high-temperature (HT) in situ ADXRD synchrotron measurements in barium tungstate (BaWO4 ) up to 7.5 GPa and 800 K. Coexistence of the scheelite and fergusonite structures was found beyond 7 GPa, both at room temperature and HT, suggesting a polymorphism zone in the P –T phase diagram. The experiments are complemented by thermodynamic calculations within the quasi-harmonic approximation. At ambient pressure, a volume thermal expansivity of 9.5 × 10− 6 K−1 was obtained for scheelite BaWO4 . At HP, the thermal expansivity of the fergusonite doubles that of scheelite. Highly Selective Detection of Nerve‐Agent Simulants with BODIPY Dyes

Two chromo-fluorogenic probes, each based on the boron dipyrromethene core, have been developed for the detection of nerve-agent mimics. These chemosensors display both a color change and a significant enhancement of fluorescence in the presence of diethylcyanophosphonate (DCNP) and diisopropylfluorophosphate (DFP). No interference from other organophosphorus compounds or acids has been observed. Two portable chemosensor kits have been developed and tested to demonstrate its practical application in real-time monitoring.

Abstract UV filters are used in sunscreen cosmetics to protect skin from the sunlight. Nowadays, they are also incorporated into other daily-use cosmetics. However, many concerns about their safety have been raised, because they can be absorbed through the skin, further metabolized and eventually bioaccumulated and/or excreted. The Transfer Function of Non-Stationary Indoor Channels and its Relationship to System Functions of LFMCW Radars

This paper studies the relationship between the time-variant (TV) channel transfer function (CTF) of non-stationary indoor channels and the system functions of linear frequency modulated continuous waves (LFMCW) radars. To do so, we consider a moving person/object in indoor environments, which is modelled by a cluster of moving point scatterers. It is shown that the TVCTF can be obtained from the beat signal of LFMCW radar systems.
