Renal transplantation by automatic anastomotic device in a porcine model
2015
Automatic vascular staplers for vascular anastomoses in kidney transplantation may dramatically reduce the operative time and, in particular, warm ischemia time, thus increasing the outcome of transplantation. Ten pigs underwent kidney auto-transplantation by automatic anastomotic device. Kidneys were collected by laparotomy with selective ligations at the renal hilum and perfused with cold storage solution. To overcome the shortage in length of renal hilum, a tract of the internal jugular vein was harvested to increase the length of the vessels. The anastomoses were totally performed by the use of the anastomotic device. On 10 kidney transplants, nine were successful and no complications o…
Transdermal Nitroglycerine Patch: An Optional Device to Reduce Flap Venous Congestion? A Case Report
2013
ABSTRACT Sometimes in free flap there is a venous congestion without an obstruction of the venous anastomosis or other organic causes of reduction venous drainage (haematoma, seroma compressing the pedicle). In these cases the authors suggest the application of nitroglycerine patch in the congested area of the flap few hours before the surgical exploration of the anastomosis. If there is a fast improvement of the clinical feature of the flap, the surgical exploration could be avoided. The authors underline that applying the nitroglycerin patch should not be regarded in any way as a therapy of a free flap venous thrombosis but only as an useful device, an option to be taken only when the sur…

The Superficial Anastomosing Veins of the Human Brain Cortex: A Microneurosurgical Anatomical Study
2022
Introduction: In this microneurosurgical and anatomical study, we characterized the superficial anastomosing veins of the human brain cortex in human specimens.Material and Methods: We used 21 brain preparations fixed in formalin (5%) that showed no pathological changes and came from the autopsy sections. The superficial veins were dissected out of the arachnoid with the aid of a surgical microscope. Results: We dissected nine female and 12 male brain specimens, with an average age of 71 ± 11 years (range 51–88 years). We classified the superficial veins in five types: (I) the vein of Trolard as the dominat vein; (II) the vein of Labbé as the dominant vein; (III) a dominant sylvian vein grou…
Ascending Aorta Resection and End-to-End Anastomosis: Redistribution of Wall Shear Stress Induced by a Bioprosthetic Heart Valve
2020
Although aortic resection and end-to-end anastomosis are applied to repair ascending aortic aneurysm, there is a lack of information on the late risk of post-operative complications, such as aortic dissection and aneurysmal re-dilatation. It is recognized that altered hemodynamic forces exerted on an aortic wall play an important role on dissection and aneurysm formation. We present a case in which the hemodynamic forces were investigated prior and after repair of an ascending aorta treated by resection with end-to-end anastomosis and a bioprosthetic heart valve. Post-operative wall shear stress was redistributed uniformly along the vessel circumference, and this may suggest a reduced risk …
A clampless and sutureless aortic anastomosis technique using an endograft connector for aortoiliac occlusive disease in which the aorta cannot be cl…
2012
Bypass surgery in aortoiliac or aortofemoral occlusive disease can be technically demanding and hazardous due to huge calcifications and/or patient co-morbidities. We report about mid-term results of a telescoping sutureless aortic anastomosis technique using endografts as connectors to address such challenging situations. This is a single-center experience (2004–2011) in seven patients (63 ± 6 years) requiring aortoiliac (three) or aortofemoral (four) bypass surgery. In six cases, an aortic stent graft was telescoped into the infrarenal aorta and partly deployed within the aorta and partly outside the aorta. In the first case, a bifurcated stent graft was deployed and the iliac legs were p…
Applied Anatomy of the Cerebral Arteries
1991
Four arteries supply the brain with blood: the two carotid and the two vertebral arteries. Although these four vessels are ultimately interlinked via a basal arterial network, the circle of Willis, and anastomoses at the brain surface, Heubner’s anastomoses, it is useful to distinguish anterior (carotid anterior and middle cerebral) and posterior (vertebrobasilar posterior cerebral) vascular territories (Gillian 1957, 1968; Lazorthes 1961; Kaplan and Ford 1966; Ganshirt 1972; Seeger 1978; Dorndorf 1983; Duus 1983).
SULL'IMPIEGO SPERIMENTALE DI UN COLLANTE BIOLOGICO NELLE ANASTOMOSI INTESTINALI NEL RATTO IN ACCRESCIMENTO
1980
The problems that arise in the preparation of the anastomoses of channelicular organs have not found a unique solution. In fact, when it is necessary to proceed to the synthesis of very small gauge hollow organs as in the accreting subjects (infants) the risk of formation of a stenosis is always present despite the various techniques practiced. In recent years several experimental researches have been carried out in order to verify the validity of biological adhesives in intestinal anastomoses in rapidly growing animals. For this purpose we have chosen the rat whose rapidity of somatic growth permits an evaluation in times contained
