In 2007 the Estonian government began to relocate a highly contentious Soviet era war memorial from the centre of Tallinn to a nearby military cemetery. The ‘Bronze Soldier’ was erected in 1947 to honour the memory of the fallen Soviet soldiers who had fought in the battles that liberated Tallinn from German forces during the Second World War. At that time it was known as the ‘Monument to the Liberators of Tallinn’. An eternal flame was added in 1964. Following independence, Estonian authorities rededicated it to all soldiers who had died during the war and dismantled the eternal flame in an attempt to depoliticise the memorial. Ancient human DNA.

The contribution of palaeogenetic data to the study of various aspects of hominin biology and evolution has been significant, and has the potential to increase substantially with the widespread implementation of next generation sequencing techniques. Here we discuss the present state-of-the-art of ancient human DNA analysis and the characteristics of hominin aDNA that make sequence validation particularly complex. A brief overview of the development of anthropological palaeogenetic analysis is given to illustrate the technical challenges motivating recent technological advancements.

Este artículo está dedicado al estudio de los hiperbóreos, un pueblo que según la tradición mítica y literaria griega vivía en el extremo septentrional del mundo. En un primer apartado se contemplan los aspectos más llamativos de su caracterización etnográfica; posteriormente, se profundiza en el significado de la estrecha vinculación que mantuvieron con los tres principales santuarios griegos: Delfos. Di cosa parlavano veramente i Greci e i Romani quando si riferivano a quelli che noi chiamiamo oggi "ibridi"? Generare in comune si configura come un viaggio nelle teorie della riproduzione del mondo antico, per arrivare a marcare una serie di differenze antropologiche fra "Noi" e "Loro" attraverso le quali si tenta di riorientare il dibattito bioetico contemporaneo. Lo sguardo sul mondo antico si configura così come una sorta di dispositivo per l'esplorazione di prospettive inedite da contrapporre da un lato al misticismo della natura, dall'altro alla bestializzazione dell'umano e alla mercificazione della vita.

La moneda se caracteriza por ser forrada o falsa de época y por presentar un arte imitativo de Turiasu. También se ofrecen algunas reflexiones y nuevo material numismático en torno a los denarios forrados, imitativos, híbridos e incusos.

Homeric k-aorists and/or k-perfects?

In classical Greek the aorist indicatives of dído:mi, je:mi, and títhe:mi end in -ka, -kas, -ke following a long vowel in the singular. Homeric Greek utilizes k-forms, both augmented and non-augmented, of these three verbs, and attests to third person plural forms ending in -kan and even to a first person plural form such as êne:kamen. There is a broad consensus regarding these forms as typical of Greek, while their relation to the k-perfect is still discussed. The paper considers the -k- to have a phonetic origin deriving from a laryngeal root,viz from *h1 or *h3, when they come into contact with *h2,the laryngeal of *-h2e, the ancient first person singular ending of the original perfect. …

Dans un premier temps, il discutera du sens du substantif " mercantilisme " tel qu'il a été construit depuis le milieu du dix-huitième siècle : examiner les fondements historiques de cette notion permettra d'en montrer les impasses. Ce livre traite du déploiement des idées monétaires dans le monde européen de l'époque moderne, depuis les écrits de Nicolas Copernic (1517) jusqu'à la veille de la publication de l'ouvrage économique majeur écrit par Adam Smith (1776) . Il met l'accent sur le contexte historique dans le cadre duquel ces idées monétaires ont vu le jour. Il montre la grande variété des contextes et des idées bien au-delà des espaces, des auteurs et des thèmes généralement étudiés, en intégrant des territoires peu étudiés par les économistes, en mettant au jour des approches et des auteurs oubliés, en tentant, enfin, de restituer la riches…
