L’arco di origine antico-romana è un motivo che ha beneficiato di una lunga fortuna nell’architettura e nell’arte di età moderna. Questa tipologia ha goduto di una particolare predilezione in Italia durante il periodo fascista, trovando un campo d’applicazione privilegiato nei monumenti dedicati ai caduti della Grande Guerra. La cantina Rocca di Frassinello, progettata da Renzo Piano nel cuore della Maremma Toscana, costituisce uno dei massimi esempi di come la contemporaneità, nelle sue forme più essenziali, possa fondersi perfettamente con il paesaggio naturale circostante senza alterarne gli equilibri e la storia ma anzi valorizzandolo in maniera magistrale. Il centro pulsante della cantina è la grande barricaia ipogea nella quale riposano fino a 2.500 barriques di rovere francese disposte su gradinate digradanti. La popolarità dell'eroe nell'isola è confermata dall'evidenza archeologica non solo nella colonia greca di Himera, ma anche nel suo territorio. This paper describes the hinterland between Palermo and Solunto (north-western Sicily). The focus is the distribution of settlements, linked to the geomorphological context, the potential resources and the ancient route system. The analysis ranges from the Archaic to the Middle Ages, when some relevant sites – both from an economic and strategic point of view – are part of the properties of the Teutonic Order. Some important routes cross the area, both in the SW direction, towards Monte Iato, and in the SE direction, towards the area of influence of the Greek colony of Himera. The contribution concerns digital reconstruction as a method for the study of theatrical spaces from the archaic age to the imperial age. After some preliminary observations on the characteristics Structures of Greek and Roman scenic buildings, some case studies are presented, examples of an experienced working method. Case studies include ikria and ekklesiasteria of Metaponto (7th-5th century BC), the Greek theater of Metaponto (4th century BC), the Greek theater of Tindari (III-II century BC), the Roman theater of Augusta Bagiennorum (1st century AD), with an interesting status quaestionis on the state of the findings and the added value of accurate 3D reconstructions.

In ancient Sicilian, basic spatial relations are encoded by means of prepositional phrases introduced by ‘da’ and ‘di’ (origin), ‘a’, ‘in’ and ‘intra’ (location and direction), ‘per/pir/pri’ (path). This contribution offers a description of these encoding means based on the examination of a corpus of Sicialian texts of the 14th to 16th centuries. The analysis is carried out against a cognitive grammar theoretical background and takes into account the existing studies on spatial relations in the world languages. These studies brought to light some recurring patterns: for instance, ‘direction’ tends to be encoded in a more articlulated way than ‘origin’, while the encoding of ‘path’ seems to …
